Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] Dreylin tries to take over the World ... casually?

That's pretty good pairing for the start. How big the map is or has that been given? ORG will pay off very well with bigger maps.

The start is not looking that awesome anymore, though it was almost too good to be true. Do you think it's worth to grab Hunting first or go for BW quickly? Also, I just checked civilopedia... whaling boats become available only after Optics? That's disappointing (I think in 3.0.0.5 they are unlocked way earlier with Sailing).

Hmmm, changelog for 2.7.6 says that it should be Sailing (under Tile Changes), and the civlopaedia isn't always updated; but there were no Whales on the PB28 map so I have no definitive evidence either way.

Map size will come with the SIMs I think, but it should be a reasonable size given 12players so ORG should be good if we survive into the mid-game. It also makes justifying the Lighthouse for Nessie much easier!

Yeah, it's a tough start to figure instinctively - and I don't have the instant grasp of things that others do. Agri/Wheel gives the Worker stuff to do while researching Mining-BW, but is there enough work there to consume the time since there's really only 1tile to improve until we can chop?

Also, BW isn't so great since multiple 4f tiles doesn't strongly lend itself to whipping. Alternative might be to go Hunting->AH and plant a fast second city near the Horses.

Maybe:

Worker-Warrior(size2)-Worker-Warrior(size3)-Settler

or depending to tech timing:

Worker-Worker-Warriors(to size3)-Settler

Then Fishing-Sailing and hook Nessie then just build Settlers and Workers at Size4 with the food surplus while other cities handle stuff like Warriors / Chariots.

Once the key characteristics are known, I'll set up a spreadsheet that we can tinker around with. Also for reference:

Not sure if there's anything intelligent we can do with this prior to Theology. Unlikely to grab one of the early Religions, but maybe Confu. at CoL will still be in the running and worth Shrining. Not that we'll build many Obelisks with CRE powering our border pops!

If there's any ambiguity, you can check the XML files. Furthermore, in the vast majority of cases, the Civilopedia entries should be correct (they read directly from the XML, so unless there have been any intervening SDK changes, what you see is what you get).

As I reckon it, in RtR 2.0.7.6:
- Whales give +1f to the tile's base yield (BonusInfos.xml)
- Whaling Boats give +1h, +2c (ImprovementInfos.xml)
- Whaling Boats are built by Work Boats, require Sailing tech, finish instantly, and consume the Work Boat (BuildInfos.xml)

Regarding whales I ran a quick test with 2.0.7.6, and..

It says in the changelog that it should be at Sailing - but it isn't! So I guess no hooking Nessie quite so soon. frown

Also, good points regarding BW. I haven't been whipping a lot so I thought Slavery was pretty much a must have as early as possible.

That's odd, Aurorarcher. I just checked it myself and it seems to be working correctly.

That's weird. I am running 2.0.7.6., that's for sure... hmm, no idea what's going on. Well, it doesn't matter as long as we can hook the Whale at Sailing!

Unfortunately I can't see your pictures at work, but I take it it didn't work - which is interesting considering El Grillo's info. That would certainly be a blow since it's the only Happy in sight.

Whipping gets stronger if you have a) a Granary, b) a high Happy Cap, c) high-food tiles that let you regrow the pop fast. It's a trade-off between 30h now verses what that pop point will produce over the regrow period (and/or grow onto another tile). With 4f tiles, the fast regrowth doesn't occur until you have all 3 active, so you're whipping from 4 to 3 rather that with a 6f tile where you go 2 to 1 and grow faster. I tend to be fairly (too?) light on the whip early on.

The other option with the start is to stay small for longer and start chopping early into Workers & Settlers - but that really leaves only 1 improved tile to work until Hunting/AH comes in. noidea

So having been thinking of a Scottish theme for the civ, my first thought on getting Zara was naturally:

So yeah, maybe I'm going to do a smoke theme instead....
