I noticed Bacchus played and spent quite a bit of time on his turn, so I logged in to take a look! (I actually had to wait three hours to find out what happened, because as soon as I got past the password prompt, my wife suddenly ran over shouting about how she remember down the time wrong that we were planning to meet some friends for brunch, and so we're late and gotta go go go go! lol)

And we cleaned up! Hit me with 4 cats, then a shock knight to wear down my nearly unscratched pike a bit, then some immortals (no more knight upgrades!), then one of his flanking II knights, then his new great general knight, promoted CIII, Formation, Tactics, which withdrew at 30% odds against my 4.0 hp formation pike. Then his last few knights died too! Wonderful success for me, although it does delay my taking of that city by a turn. I'll rest in this spot next turn to heal with my super medic, covering the stack with a fresh formation pike from Persepolis.

T153, nothing major to report.

Xenu didn't do anything with his boat except raze some clams that I'd soon enough have in my culture anyways. frown Golden opportunity missed, man...

I covered my wounded stack with a pair of fresh knights and a formation pike. Bacchus has 7 longbows, 5 w/ CG 2, in the city now. Should be no trouble w/o a river though. I took a pause from unit-pumping to get some AP monasteries up.

Finally, dazed missed his turn, an apparently consequential one. I was not happy to see this, as I need him to keep TBS busy while I'm conquering stuff overseas. He's apparently gotten the lion's share of Furungy's territory and somehow gained culture dominance of some of TBS's first-ring tiles. I'm also pretty sympathetic to how much missing a turn could knock the wind out of your sails. Still, though, why the hell didn't he post about it last night?? Or the prior 50 hours that the turn took to roll? Or even the previous turn, if he knew he'd be busy?? It only takes a minute to ask for a pause...

T154; all's quiet.

TBS has another scouting horcher in my lands, presumably to match my 2nd worker exploring his. I'll have to leave my next two knights at my border in Moonshine so that he sees that I'm paying attention. On his side, I found more cities culture crushed by dazed - perhaps an artist bomb? - and discovered that his Moai city is actually Basilisk Caves. Speaking of which, he's actually stolen my 1st ring workshop with that city, so I have to work a trio of artists to pop its borders to 3rd ring in two turns. TBS finished Nationalism this turn, and presumably plans on going on a drafting spree, as he's 2Ting Gunpowder now.

Speaking of Gunpowder, Bacchus got it this turn too, to my great surprise!! I was honestly not even expecting him to reach engineering, what with his capital down, at least 2 of his 8 remaining cities being iceball junk, and having spent all of his GA gold on knight upgrades, but he is indeed the 4th civ to reach Gunpowder. Pretty irritating, although not nearly as bad as it seems on first glance. First, muskets cost 80 hammers instead of 50, meaning he needs at 4 pop to whip one after just one turn of work, as compared to 2 pop for a longbow. So, I shouldn't see too many. Second, muskets aren't THAT superior to longbows when it comes to city defense, as Longbows have an innate +25% city defense and +25% hills defense, and all of Bacchus' freaking cities are on hills as far as I've seen. So, I'll just need even that many more cats going forward... 8 longbows in Pasargadae now, 12 military units total. Bombarding next turn, hitting T156 with 10 cats, 15 knights, 2 swords, and 4 pikes. I'm expecting to lose most of the cats but take no further losses than that.

Finally time to take Pasagardae! Eight barrage cats did the dirty work, having fufilled their bombard duties last turn, and the rest of the battles went like this:

1.) CR 3 sword vs 4.4/6 CG2 longbow, 85.5% odds - WIN
2.) C2 Knight vs 6.5/9 CG2 musket, 66.9% odds - WIN!
3.) C2 Knight vs Heinz Guderian, 7.2/10 C3 Formation Tactics Knight, 77.3% odds - WIN!
4.) C2 Knight vs 4.2/6 CG1 longbow 87.9% odds - WIN
5.) C2 Knight vs 4.2/6 CG1 longbow 87.9% odds - WIN
6.) C2 Knight vs 3.8/6 CG1 longbow 94.2% odds - WIN
7.) C2 Knight vs 3.2/6 CG2 longbow 94.9% odds - WIN
8.) C2 Knight vs 3.2/6 CG2 longbow 94.9% odds - WIN
9.) C2 Knight vs 3.5/6 CG1 longbow 95.2% odds - WIN
10.) 9.9/10 C2 Knight vs 3.3/6 CG1 longbow 96.9% odds - WIN
11.) C2 Shock Knight vs 6.6/10 flanking II knight 98.9% odds - LOSS, OMFG
12.) C2, Formation Knight vs 2.5/6 CG1 longbow 98.5% odds - WIN
13.) C2 Knight vs 2.0/3 Archer, 99.9% odds - WIN
14.) GG Super Medic Knight vs 2.0/4.0, 99.9% odds Immortal - WIN
15.) C2 Formation Pike vs 2.0/4.0 Immortal, 99.9% odds - WIN
finally, archer and two immortals killed at 99.9% odds; got an upgrade on my sword and my GG medic!

And finally, Pasagardae and my own source of ivory, are mine. smile

here's a look at the battlefield:

I'm still not sure where I want to go next. The main goal is still to pave a way to HAK, but I'll also want to clean up Bacchus sooner rather than later. He has 7 cities left, three north of the gold and presumably 4 to the south of it, although I can only see three.

Demos finally look ok, with dtay, krovice, and BGN finally out of their golden ages. Mine's coming in 4 turns.

T157

The battlefield:

He's just got very tiny garrisons here and in Dariush Kabir. His forces to the south are still unknown, however. I've got 16 Knights, 5 pikes, 2 swords, and 6 cats ready to fight, once everything heals; I'll know more about whether I want to split my stacks or go all in towards one target next turn.

Also developing is this worrisome situation to my west:

TBS just fired his second consecutive golden age this turn. He switched into Nationhood and Theocracy last turn, and has begun accumulating units. I seem to have used the worst possible color here, but he's got a total of 6 knights, 2 cats, and 4 muskets here, as far as I can see. I'll need to keep a close eye on the situation and add start adding some Jans to my western border garrisons. I built cats in my big production centers this turn in order to overflow plenty of hammers into Jans next turn; they'll even be coming out at 5 XP in my HE city thanks to a settled Great General. I can get Pinch even on 3XP ones, however, thanks to being Agg, so my muskets will all get +25% strength versus his. I hope that's enough to convince him to go bother dazed instead of me, without having to keep a large garrison on my western border.

YEUUUURURRGHHHHH... I think this can wait for some Jans. I'll clean up the north in the meantime. RIP Knight... although, Bacchus missed this last turn, so maybe he'll miss this next one too? You better hope and pray, lil horsie!

I've got two new cities this turn! One settled, and one I took from Bacchus, here:

This one was a bit iffy, but I took the risk and it paid off. Last turn, the situation was that he had a CG1 longbow on the silver, and a CG3 archer and and a CG2 longbow in the city. Last turn, I had a C1 Mace attack the longbow, losing at 67% odds but bringing it down to 2.4/6 health. This turn, I had a stack of 7 Knights ready to hit, but he also whipped out a Musket and upgraded the archer to a longbow. My sims suggested I would lose between 2 and 4 of them... and, in the end, I only lost two.

The rest of my stack is advancing on Ectbana, which should fall quickly. After this, I'd like to start heading back south, as I think Bacchus got Engineering this turn.

In other news, Xenu's galley retreated back to his borders but is now heading back this way. Will it have some troops on it this time???? I'd really love it if it did, as I'd completely control the channel if Duncan was razed!

TBS's power is shooting up like crazy. Nationalism can't come soon enough. I flashed this C2 Pinch Jan at him this turn, as a way of saying, hey man, I don't care what kind of goofy civics you can get into, dont mess with me. I'm putting out 3 Jans a turn roughly right now, 6 a turn once Nationalism finishes in hopefully 4. I asked Krovice for a 500 gold for 60gpt loan this turn; if I get it, I can fire my golden age next turn, assuming I don't get a 6% artist.

Nice! What are the city counts of your neighbors? Whats your next chapter after the current war?

I'm at 24 now, TBS is I think the same, dazed 21, CH is down to 11, Xenu 6, Bacchus 6, HAK is up to 10 or 11. My plan after Bacchus is to hit either HAK or Yuri, which probably will depend more on logistics and TBS's disposition than anything else. TBS's power has skyrocketed past mine now; he's probably pushing 850k soldiers. My drafting spree can't happen soon enough; at this point, I'm only hoping to catch back up. That said, I'm fairly sure he's hitting dazed, though; I wonder how I can warn him? Or whether warning him will even do any good? I don't have dazed's graphs, and had to pull back my exploring workers to my border with TBS, but from what I saw, his army consists mostly of longbows and various ancient trash.

T160 update - the loan came through, from Finharry but not from Krovice. I can get Nationalism in 2 turns now, theoretically, with some wealth builds. I did get my great engineer from Carnival, so I can fire off my GA whenever I want. I haven't decided whether to do it this turn or not, though; I think I probably should.

War-weariness is becoming a big problem. My biggest cities are at +4 WW unhappiness now; I need to be able to make some trades for more happiness so that I don't have to waste hammers on HR units.

Exploring galleys from Finharry, BGN, and WilliamLP near my Moai city of Stony Point are driving me nuts. Get outta here you bums! You're making me nervous! I really should shore up its garrison...

Lastly, Xenu did in fact raze Duncan, with what seemed to be a pair of Maces on the boat. (he has an unscratched mace standing where the city used to be.) In response, CH moved a gigantic stack into Xenu's borders, consisting of 22 cats and around that many knights. Don't get too pissed man, that one was your own fault! Unfortunately, CH's culture in the area did not change; is this because he's got another city still putting culture onto those tiles? Or is there just a turn delay? I thought that razing a city removes its contribution of culture from whatever tiles its borders expanded to.
