Yeah, that's the idea. I'd recommend testing it in a sim before trying it. Looking closer, this case might not be ideal after all since growing first lets you work the gold earlier (but otoh might delay growth to size 3). Speaking of which, mine that awesome iron tile.
I have to run.

Ichabod Wrote:DaveV, Ilios, should we whip this settler next turn (2 pop) or slow build it?
I vote for slow build. I don't see it being worth giving up a bunch of food or commerce to have the settler three turns earlier (and then not being able to work one of those good tiles while the whip anger wears off). It seems like we should build workers and settlers in the capital until we get more happiness.
The proposed city site is not looking very good, with two hills for Rome to park units on next to our city (instead, I think Wroth should send its soon to be built Skirmisher along that line of hills to find a better spot). We should also chop the forest south of Envy and west of Wroth ASAP. A few wandering axes in the west should be ready for a visit from some praets. Getting graphs on the Romans so we can track their power is essential.

No. He's got about 40% odds though.

It'd be nice not to lose it, since we are 1xp short of HE.
Hopefully those chariots were only meant to search for an opportunistic attack and nothing serious. I'd hate to have to waste a lot of resources fighting them.

I'm still undecided between whipping or slow building the settler. But I think you have a point regarding the next city placement. When I discussed it with Ilios, we mostly worried about Sunrise, so we didn't think those western hills would be so bad.
So, should we settle east for a while, while we defend against these annoying Romans (trying to scout that area a little better too - I think we can spare a Smirk/Spear pair) or do we settle west, since I think we are well defended enough?
That filler city on the stone with bananas + Iron could get a chopped monument to fasten its growth. I think we can mae a decent production city there, with some grassland farms, the bananas, the iron and hills.

I feel like our team is the Whosit from PB2. Everybody knows we aren't a really serious contender, but at least we are funny to lurk.
....
Anyone brave enough to pick which teams in PB2 the players of this game relate to?

Ichabod, I had a moment so I logged in and moved our HE candidate on the Iron tile.
Looking at the topography in the west, I say wait and see what Rome do next. I really feel like moving 2 Skirmishers and 2 Spearmen forward to claim defensive ground.

Great!
I agree with you. We have some more units coming out of our production lines and I think we can afford to send some in that direction (I don't think we will get much heat from the east and south). Maybe Rome are just trying to scare us out of that places, so we need to see what's there.
How about making Wroth only pump units for a while? We get 7 production at size 2 just with the cows and ivory. With the banana we could grow wuickly to size 6 and work bananas, cows, ivory and 3 hills for 16h/t or a Skirmisher every 2 turns.
I also intend to finish that galley being built in Envy (work it while growing again), stuck an axe inside it and try to raze a poorly guarded Roman Coastal city. I don't think he'll have good defenses home, since they are spending so much hammers with attacks.

I'm DaveV, and I approve this message.
(probably meaningless for non-US readers, including my two teammates, but I couldn't resist)
