[SPOILERS] Willem of Portugal (Dantski + Mukha)

Dantski Wrote:Our first warrior is gonna loop round to the desert hill N of our cap while we kill our early growth with 2 workers and a settler. I'm not sure what tack to take with diplomacy considering we will be uber vulnerable early on. Playing the happy peaceful idiot way is best, if a bit boring. Tempted to try the "arrogant ****hole" approach but that may speed our demise up by a few hundred turns.
Rumour has it you've met someone. So which will it be, peaceful idiot or arrogant ***hole?

(Hmmm. ***hole doesn't fit. Maybe it's ****hole? )

err.. we have? Not logged in this turn (won't do until tomorrow now) so relying on muk to yell at me tomorrow

guess diplomacy style will depend on who we meet and what we know about them

Sorry for not updating earlier, really nothing has been happening.

Krill has found us.
His email is copied below:

Hello dearest Portugal,

Just a heads up, but my scouting warrior discovered you this turn. My warrior is 3E1N of your capital.

Please let me assure you that I don't plan on warrior rushing you smile I was kinda hoping we could share greetings, and maybe have a chat to exchange information about the map, if you wanted to, of course smile

I'm available either in G chat at this address, or at killerkrill@msn.com, but I'd prefer to use google chat if it is all the same with you smile

Krill

He would never have found us if we hadn't settled. I did log in to see if I could see his warrior, but it had moved away. I moved our warrior 1S so we can reach our capital in 3 turns if needed. Little bit worried about our worker out there chopping.

So how did you want to play this Dant? I would much rather have War Chariots as an ally than an enemy. I'm happy for you to tell him what we are thinking so far about map style ie 64x64 Team Battleground with 6 lake tiles. As a MP veteran he would recognize Team Battleground map instantly so we could hope for confirmation there. Perhaps mention we are looking to form early friendships?

Anyway, I'll let you do the honours. I'll update a bit with screenshots of what we can see so far.

Diplo with Krill:

Hey Krill

We're happy to exchange info on other teams whereabouts.

In a small goodwill gesture, I'd also inform you that if your warrior continues WNW you will likely run into a bear that our culture revealed so stick to those forests!

We're happy to discuss trades etc later on with you.

Wassup,

Well, you're the first civ that I've found that hasn't proceeded to die spectacularly. Thank you for the map information, it helps corroborate my own suspicions. I agree that it is likely a 64*64 TBG map script, with toroidal wrapping. I'm pretty sure of this, because I've just wandered through 16 rows of tundra forests, much too many for any normal map script.

On that note, you now have one less neighbour; Lobo of Korea was 12E4S of your capital. For comparison, my capital is 12E17S of yours. This seems to be quite a cramped map, with neighbours about 12 tiles away in different directions. For instance, I think their may be a team south of you and west of me.

Would you be willing to exchange information on other teams that both of us meet in the future, and their relative positions to each of us? That should help improve both of our limited scouting and give us some more information about the map.

Krill

Hello Krill,

Thanks for finding us, we sure could use the research discount. Glad to hear your warrior has peaceful intentions although we should warn you our warriors aren't pushovers should relations change in future. One even killed a Lion.

We're happy to share our thoughts on the map - we think it's a 64x64 Modified Team Battleground with 6 lake tiles - go Portugal eh? (I blame my teammate for that choice) You're also the first civ we have contact with so we would appreciate any information on other civs you have found.

Looking forward to a fruitful trade relationship.

Mukha and Dantski..

Us to Krill:

Hi Krill,

Nothing new to report in terms of our land and other teams met. While we have access to pig we hope you are willing to seek more pork elsewhere (or hippopotami as the case may be).

While it's still very early days we were hoping to discuss possible tech trades so we can better plan our research paths. If you had plans for the bottom of the tech tree what would you say to a trade of Alphabet and Maths for Monarchy and religious techs such as Masonry, Monotheism and Mysticism? Does this fit into your research plans at all?

We feel our respective locations could make us suitable allies. Thanks to your spectacular defeat of the nasty Koreans (they never even bothered to find us) we shouldn't have to worry about border tensions between our teams for a good long while. As a rivered up Fin civ we can help you get access to Great Artists/Prophets fairly quickly and in exchange you can help us towards err ... what we get. Carracks? Feitorias? Hmm.

Mukha and Dantski of the Landlocked Portuguese.

First Settler next turn, I think we agreed to settling on Desert Hill. Well, even if we didn't agree that's what we're doing. Suck it up, Dantski.

Response from Krill:

Hi guys,

I'm always willing to trade resources with friends, so if you know where I can get some spare resources, or trade away an excess of mine to someone who would appreciate them, I'd be thankful of the heads up smile

I'm more than willing to talk about research, but truth be told me plans are kinda influx right now. I'm working on various different strategies, but I don't know what is possible with my start. I'm lucky enough to already see my sources of horses, so I don't have to worry too much about defence smile

I think I can trust you with this information, but please don't spread it around right now. I'm currently researching Polytheism, hoping to land Hinduism. What I research next depends on if I get that. If I do get it, I have one or two interesting strategies that you might find interesting. However, I can't categorically state where in the tech tree I intend to research. That should change within the next ten turns though.

I would love to have you as an ally smile I agree 100% with everything that you have said, and the teams to your south and east (my west and north respectively) will have to deal with 2 possible civs and not just one, which greatly increases both of our security.

Muk is also pushing for this build order

worker/worker/settler/worker/warrior/warrior/warrior

or something like that

Yeah 4 growth stunting builds to start, aside from being utterly defenceless we won't be able to use slavery to whip anything for a while.
I actually thought you were joking when you wrote this, but I see your settler is about to complete. Doesn't seem like a terrible opening though, given your research path. You'll be able to grow quickly with the corn farmed.

Are you still planning the third worker or will you start growing your city now?

EDIT: Thanks for the dotmap btw. And tip of the day: You can put diplomatic messages in QUOTE tags for increased readbility.

EDIT2: Oh, I see from the tech thread that your build plan after the settler is - nothing! wink
I have to run.

Ahh, I got Dantski with this trap too.

novice Wrote:Are you still planning the third worker or will you start growing your city now?

We are double farming corn at the moment. I think we'll pop out 2 warriors while growing. It's a long wait until AH so we'll probably start doing some farming in the meantime. We need to work out a worker micro for the next 20 or so turns. Dantski? Time to earn your place in the team maybe? Also, don't listen to his lies in the IT thread, it was his fault!

It did solve the mystery as to how you don't always win though. I mean you must be spending at least 20 turns every game building nothing! bang
