[PBEM9 - SPOILERS] Pacal of the Ottoman Empire

Some interesting developments over this turn and the previous interturn.

Where do I start rolleye

First of all the barb bear reappeaerd up by Cheetarah.

I had 50/50 chance of taking on the barb but decided to decline and move cheetarah NW to reveal even more resources jive

You can't see the barb bear on that screenie but I assure you it's there SW of Gold.

Activities in Cat's Lair
Still growing and still building the Warrior. Worker still camping the furs.

Now for the more interesting stuff.

Someone has got Buddhism but who? Points log (after end turn) shows that only Sylon didn't get a tech this turn. But the log indicates it was founded last turn, which means that rules out mackoti as I swear it wasn't on the log last turn.

Now initially I thought it was Kodii as he had massive points increase this turn and I am not sure if founding a religion gives you loads of points? I am going to have to sandbox that to find out I think. However, to get meditation you need Mysticism. My c&d doesn't have Kodii down for that, but Ruff has it as one of his starting techs - so I have therefore noted it down as Ruff. He founded buddhism in PB3 too rolleye

No wait, I think I have sussed it. Kodii is CRE so border pop could explain his massive points increase. Sylon is CRE too but he founded 1 turn later. So lets see what happens to his score next turn.

Ok... moving onto the others, mackoti got another tech this turn. I have to say I have no idea what. duh It's not a tech that generates soldier points so I am guessing at either masonry or pottery (over 6 turns).

Sylon. As mentioned before has no change.

Ruff. He founded buddhism last turn and also grew back to size 2.

Kodii. Now with all his points increase I thought he had researched a new tech, but in 3 turns (surely not). It has to be border pop (surely) smoke

And finally for the brilliant news. jive Some of you may have aleady spotted it in the previous screenshot. On ending turn I got BW jivejivejive
And yes I have copper south of Cats Lair jivejivejive

Next tech for me is going to be fishing followed by pottery I think.

3 turns have passed since my last update.

2 were played with around 15 hours of each other yikes

I continue to move Cheetarah to the West under forest cover. I thought I had discovered Kodii's lands at one point only to be proven wrong the following turn duh

Cat's Lair completed another Warrior (Panthro) and started on another, whilst growing to size 3. The worker has completed the camp and road on the furs this turn. (done seperately)

As you can see from the screenshot above I have decided to sweep Panthro round to the NW to see if there is any food in the sea to determine an appropriate site over there before sweeping him back round towards the south east.

I am yet to switch to Slavery but am thinking maybe in a couple of turns, but I need to give this more thought.

Fishing came in on ending turn too.

C&D wise. This is getting more and more difficult.

T23. Sylons pts increase by 15. Border pop I suspect similar to Kodii's. Kodii got a 4 turn tech. I'm guessing mysticism or agriculture. Can pottery be completed in 4 turns?? I'll know next turn as thats what I am taking next.

T24. Sylon gets a 4 turn tech. Now I am limited to choices here. Maybe pottery is a 4 turn tech huh Mackoti jumped up 19 pts. Now he is not CRE so what on earth is that?? Well he is Peter of Inca which means PHI/EXP so no border pop unless he has pottery and has built his terrace huh. If thats the case my C&D work is prety much showing me up lol
It also means he has discovered anoher tech (13 pop) (6 tech). I'm too confused right now to even work out what. Its a 3 turn tech so maybe fishing? banghead

T25, Kodii and Mackoti get another 9 pts. bangheadbangheadbanghead My head is really hurting now.

C&D is very difficult with PBEM if you aren't last to play in the turn cycle. Everyone who plays before you has the lastest stuff for you to analyze, but you only see the later players score increases the turn after.

Don't worry about it!

Thanks TT. I still have not figured out how my C&D went so wrong over the last few turns, (probably wrong from the beginning lol) but for now I will still log all movements in points and demogs.

A couple of turns have passed since my last update so I shall begin with a map.

I moved Panthro to the NW to explore. Maybe settling on the plains hill on the far NW corner might be a good spot. Mind you, I have no culture bonuses at this moment so getting to the Fish for Food would be annoying.

Cheetarah continued to scout West where a barb Bear appeared next to her during the inter turn so I moved away.

The worker completed the Furs last turn which made me No.1 in GNP jive I moved the Worker SE onto the forest hill to chop.

Tech wise Fishing finished and Pottery began (4 more turns). Cats Lair switched from Warrior to Workboat.

I need to switch to Slavery at some point too, just not sure when at the moment.

A little delayed ... but I will let you all have a lol at my initial dot map.

I am thinking Yellow X followed by Blue X purely because Yellow gives me food to work with, especially if I can get a Workboat round there too, and the Furs could certainly help the bankroll.

Blue X would be next, but I need to work out how to activate some border pops, I am seriously lacking in Culture output right now.

I am sure there will be a city to the East of Cats Lair too, but until I uncover more I will not know and there is possibly another filler city north of Cats Lair by the clam on what looks like an island.

Borders are not flush, have I overlapped too much and am playing to defensively?

T28 arrived and ... Hello, who's this toast

We finally meet our 2nd civ of the game. So the Indians are somewhere to our West.

I fired off a quick communication offering friendly intentions.

Quote:Greetings Ruff,

We have received great news from our Warrior Scout (Cheetarah) of making aquaintance with your exploring Warrior and the Indian empire.
I see he has been in the wars recently and wish him a speedy recovery. With this in mind, Cheetarah has headed South West due to a Barb Bear about 3/4 tiles north of you (disappeared from our view on the inter turn). Has your brave warrior withstood all nasty animals or are there more around that Cheetarah needs to be aware of?

May this first meeting between us be the start to a long and lasting friendship.

Pegasus

Nothing much happened, Panthro moved onto the plains forested hill and revealed more coast and sea and some land (island) to the NW. Worker is still chopping me a workboat.

C&D wise. Kodii and Ruff discovered new techs but my spreadsheet is so out of sorts now I haveno idea what. Not even my soldier count is adding properly now. I think I have royally screwed that up. duh

And a quick response from Ruff.

Quote:Greetings Pegasus,

It is always good to receive unexpected messages. I haven't seen the turn yet so your information may be more current than mine.

Have you met any others? I have met Sylon and Mackoti

Where are you generally located? I am in the South West, Sylon roughly North of me and Mackoti is (as I understand it), to the North of the central area where we've just met.

Ruff

So it appears Ruff is SW, Sylon NW, mackoti to the North (centre) and Kodii somewhere to my South. I'm thinking probably SE now.

Hi Guys, Sorry for the lack of updates in this thread. Last week was a very tough week for me personally, I lost somebody very dear to my heart and these updates had to go on the back foot for a while.

Ok, so where did we get to?

Geeze, 10th October was last update. Well, I had a little bit of diplo in between turns from what I recall.

I sent a message off to Kodii

Quote:Greetings Kodii,

How are the mighty Malinese fairing so far? I hope Waterfront is alive and well and discovering some pleasing lands for you.
You may have noiced that I have stopped spending EP's on you as I have enough now for demogs.
I met Ruff last turn over to the West, to which I believe his warrior is heading East. I would be happy to arrange a meeting point for you both, should you wish.

If you have anyone in the vacinity, please let me know and I would gladly convey a message back to Ruff.

Kind regards,

Pegasus

And got the following reply

Quote:Hello Pegasus,

You are very kind, and I hope that this arrangement can go through! Waterfront is approximately south of where our units first met, and I have actually just made contact with Sylon. Similarly, I have halted EP spending towards you.

Perhaps I can return the favour of meeting Ruff with arranging your meeting with Sylon?

- Kodii

And a few messages were exchanged with Ruff

Quote:Hi Ruff,

Alas, I had already moved Cheetarah SW onto your warriors previous tile before this message. I guess Sylon must be SE of Cheetarahs current location rather than East as I have come from the North East.

I guess if Sylon is North of you, then your warrior is quite far North.

So far I have only met Kodii who must be South of me and based on these current directions East of Sylon. I will make contact with Kodii to try and arrange a meeting between your two civs.

Many thanks for arranging the meeting with Sylon.

Pegasus

Quote:Hi Ruff,

I have spoken to Kodii and he is keen to meet. I am not sure where your warrior currently is but if you continue to head east from where we met you should stumble across Kodii who has a warrior probably about 10-15 tiles East and maybe a few South. I am a little unsure at this moment.

I tried to catch you on chat, but you must be busy.

Thanks for the update on Sylon, i have moved Cheetarah South ready to come back down and along South East.

If you need me to communicate to Kodii regarding a meet, just let me know.

Pegasus

Quote:Pegasus,

Do you know the Green Gold tile? It is Wonderland (the central area of the map) and is gold on a grassland hill. My warrior is about 2 tiles South and 6-ish tiles East of the Green Gold tile. See if you can work out where I am and let Kodii know. He will be heading basically East from there.

Ruff

Green Gold Tile??duh Where does he mean? There are quite a few Gold tiles discovered. I am thinking there may be another over to the East? smoke

Anyhow, whilst writing this update I have managed to catch Kodii on chat. I will not bore you with the message as those long lines of text can bore the life out of anyone.

To summarise, Kodii has met all civs in the game now. Sylon communicated the same message. Apart from him mentioning the land was very fertile (as we can see from previous screenshots, nothing much more was exchanged.

Screenshot time.

Cheetarah is heading back SE and has discovered some coast. Sylon had a warrior in sight, but I moved Cheetarah before taking the screenie.

I have sent the usual friendly greeting

Quote:Greetings Sylon of Athenai,

We have heard great news from our wandering warrior Cheetarah of passing by your warrior 2 East of the Deer and 1 East of the Corn. She moved south of the Mountain pass this turn, discovering the wonderful lands we seem to be blessed with.

We hope you have faired well over these starting turns and welcome the Athenai with open arms. I understand you have already met the Indians, who have kindly pointed me to head East in hope that we can meet.

So far I have met Kodii of Mali, Ruff and your good self. How have you fared? Should you require me to arrange for you to meet with any of those I have met, please feel free to request.

Kind Regards,

Pegasus

And to my NE

A barb bear appeared and hovered around my next city placing over the last few turns and has disappeared again, but is around where I circled. I am going to try and get Panthro over to the forest hill to fortify and keep fingers crossed.

This is Cats Lair as at end of T33. Grew on hitting end turn and produced my third warrior. I am thinking Worker next followed by Settler. I will move from the Clam to 3H hill for the ORG bonus. You can probably tell from the screenie that AH is due on end of next turn too. I don't believe the switching of tiles will affect the research time here.
I am in two minds to send the third warrior to the East to do a bit of scouting or hold up in Cats Lair.

And a Demogs screen, probably never get to be like this again jive

C&D wise: I have not given up on this, but believe me when I say this was definately not a priority this week. I need to print off my data at some point and really have a think about what has gone off.

Apologies folks, I have seriously left this thread wanting for updates over the past couple of weeks. RL has had a serious impact on me this month, but hopefully it will all start to settle down and allow me to spend a little more dedicated time to this thread.

So where were we ....

Looking back through the screenshots that I took, well there was some good news on T35.

Sadly not enough for a promotion though cry

Most of my other screenshots appear to be maps. This is the map as at T41 (just currently played)

Diplo wise I have met everybody now. Kodii is to the SE I believe, Mackoti is in that pocket to the North, Sylon to the unknown NW and Ruff to the unknown SW. The only person to have not agreed this is mackoti whose contact email was short and sharp. But based on the number of posts I can see in his thread, maybe updates and diplo are probably not what he is focussing on bang

Research wise:

AH came in on T34 and alas only one source of horse as you have probably already noticed to the SW of Cats Lair. In fact it is the only source discovered on the entire map so far yikes. Surely Jowy has made it fair and allowed it to be close by others too though. rolleye

This was followed up with Archery and Mysticism came in just this turn.

I was toying over the idea of the GLighthouse play, but I think I am going to switch to Slavery in 2 turns once my 1st settler is built and go rexing up and around the NE.

I have also started Polytheism for Hinduism (taking a gamble here), with the intention of maybe making a play for the Stonehenge/Oracle combo. smoke

Cats Lair will be focussing heavily on Settlers / Workers and a few WB's whilst I shall try and get my new cities up and running, and getting some sort of defences into play.

Watch this space to see how smoke my play is lol

C&D news.

I am recording the data, but I have given up on what it all means. I really should sit down and look at it though and analyse it to get a better picture.

Just a quick update.

Not much to report. Cheetarah continued along the Coast heading East, and spots another warrior of Kodii's.

Worker 2 completes a chop in time for 1st Settler to spring next turn jive
Should I switch to Slavery next turn huh

Polytheism due in 3 - but with civic switch, this will be delayed by a turn, and i'm not sure how the whip will influence the research rate too.

Worker 1 completes his chop on West Forest tile next turn, which can go into another Settler. It will take the Settler 3 turns to get over to Panthro to the East. Hmmmm... Decisions Decisions duh
