[Spoilers] The Golem Factory: Beeri Bawl of the Luchuirp

My first game with them I went mining first, lol. Because my capital was surrounded by nothing but forest, so there wasn't much else I could do. 20 turn research or something too (on normal)

Mining first isn't horrible.. but yeah the hefty research fee means that if possible, agriculture is an easier opening.

Speaking of victory conditions, I just won a Tower of Mastery victory with the Luchuirp, the first time i've tried that victory. And Luchuirp seems really well suited for it. At least if you have a few mana nodes around so you can switch around without too much difficulty while building the towers.

I had saved five great engineers for the tower of mastery, and I was able to rush it in one turn using all five. Built the "regained birthright" ritual to get my world spell back, so in the end I had 20 settled engineers or so in my capital, 5 from the first time I used it and like 15 from my second time, which shot up my production even more. Also used rites of oghma to get more mana nodes, but that was only because I had really few of them before that and I was on an isolated island, too lazy to conquer other lands for mana smile

Seems like we're getting a new map then, so this start won't be relevant anymore.

If our new start is worse I will be mad!

Should be the same map. Assuming I'm understanding the situation correctly SevenSpirits has sent his map to Serdoa, who runs it as a scenario in order to start the PBEM.

Oh. I skimmed through the tech topic while hungover as hell yesterday so I'm not really sure what actually happened. Should probably reread it now, but I should probably be studying instead, as I have a big exam on Tuesday.

Edit: yeah you're right, it's still the same map. Okay good then!

Looking at our starting position and even though we have no visible food resources i really like the start. Lots of hills for production and all the rivers make it a good place for an aristograrian economy. Also the ivory enables to make Bone Golems, too bad they're kinda useless lol

One thing I dislike though are regular plains tiles. At least for aristocracy. Even with sanitation and agrarianism, they give 3 food which is bleh, plus you lose the hammer with agrarianism. I like to workshop them, but workshops only get good when you get guilds, which is far away.

Looks like there's desert to the west but that shouldn't be a big deal if we get an early water mana node (or the OO shrine) to spring the desert tiles to plains. I converted like 50 desert tiles in my last game to plains, it's pretty amazing. Then I also built the Genesis project, which in one turn made all my cities go from stagnant at size 15-16 to having like 15 surplus food per turn each. My population exploded, I had never used Genesis before so I felt so lost.

Turn 1

The turn finally came to me, and I settled on our starting tile as we discussed.

I start building a mud golem, which takes 23 (!) turns and start researching agriculture. The capital works the flood plain. Is it best to work the flood plain, or to work a tile with more production (like the ivory tile which gives 1f/2h/1c)? Since the Luchuirp's mud golems are only built with hammers and not food. We'll get agriculture in 8 turns but at that rate it's still another 15 turns until the Mud Golem can start doing anything.

Also i'm going for an aristocracy economy obviously, but i'm not sure how important it is to get fast. We need agriculture, ancient charts, education and code of laws to get it, and before we do we won't have that much of an economy, so it should be pretty important to get. The cotton can at least help our economy some, and I also found a second source of cotton to the southwest, though it doesn't look like a good city location as it's surrounded by mountains.

Scout moves north and I was planning on it to go northeast afterwards, but my warrior went up on the mountains before returning to the city and found a hut, and scouts get better results I believe, so the scout will go west and pick it up, hoping not to get hostile villagers because then i'm seriously fucked. A barrow was also found to the west, but nothing else of interest. Lots of mountains around, and rivers too.

As for the other players, it seems that only I, the Calabim, Malakim and the Balseraphs founded on turn 1, the other three players waited. Dunno why Mahala has 0 points though? While the other two have 11. Do the Doviello start without any tech?

I've also screenshotted pretty much every relevant demographics page, and will do so every turn. I don't know much about S&D that everyone does in these games, but I might read up on it later, and if so it'll be good to have all the stats saved.

So long term goals are to get Engineering, Sorcery and Iron Working. Along the way two important stops are Construction (for wood golems and sculptor's studios) and Code of Laws (for aristocracy). A religion is also a nice side goal if possible, preferably OO or RoK. Not yet sure in what order we will pick stuff up, but after agriculture i'm thinking calendar to get the Cotton for our economy, and to switch to agrarianism. After that I'm not sure. We're gonna need all the early techs sooner or later, but i'm not sure what to prioritize yet.
