Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Ethne and the Elohim play nice?

Another update without pretty pictures.

Geneva grows to size 4 EOT and finishes another warrior, a settler is next in the build order. Crafting is finished in 3 turns and then I'll grab AH so I can improve the 2nd city's resources.

Western scout (Amber) is probably dead, 2 tiles from a Griffon. She does have her 50% vs animals bonus + 40% strength so surviving is a possibility. There's a dungeon a couple tiles north of her.

Umm well does anyone know if its possible to get 19XX x 1080 screenshots fullsize on photobucket? When it gets uploaded it seems to be auto resized and lower quality.

Anyway with the no pictures excuse out of the way...

Scout died to griffon, Crafting in 2 turns, Settler in 10 turns

Seems like Ichabod has his 2nd city up, also looks like he only has 3 warrior protecting them, some bad barb luck and he's in trouble. Jkaen may have a 2nd city up too, hard to know if my 3rd in land demographics is a genuine 3rd or whether I am tied for 2nd.

Anyway Crafting is in, AH next up

Extremely minor update

Got an event which reduces city size by 1 because of disease, if only I had body mana to deal with it. Anyway it doesn't slow the settler which is due in 2-3 turns.

AH still 6 turns away

A warrior found Selrahc to the east, by my estimation we're closer to each other than Sciz's Hippus.

Also think Kurio's got the first generated GP a sage. Considering the large population + early sage, they may be the last to put up a 2nd city

i think i could front you the nature mana
for an agreement about loaning me air mana at a time i desire

Selrahc - Okay.
That sounds reasonable.

Selrahc wants a loan of Nature mana later so he can Vitalize with Gibbon, w/e doesn't worry me

Where are you planning to place the second city? Or is it too early to say?

I'll set the settler to auto explore for 5 turns, afterthat I'll roll a dice each turn. I have to get a 4 to settle, 6 means I have to disband the settler

Also might have small screenshots issue sorted now so I'll post some when I next have the save

I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

So what does this screen show?

Well firstly it was taken after ending turn, so take that into account.

Upper X above the elephant and bear is where I'm settling, 2 warriors + settler are on that tile.

1 turn left on AH being researched, 1 turn left on Geneva growing and 1 turn left on my next warrior. That will take my warrior count upto 6.

Next on the agenda will likely be mining to hook up the gold at city 2, Geneva will probably build an Elder Council then look to work a scientist when it can. Not decided on what to build in city 2 yet.

Had an interesting chat with Ichabod the other day about religions. He said he'd send a summary email detailing everything so hopefully that will arrive soon and I can post it here.

Also Sciz has a 2nd city now, not sure if it was founded this turn or several before!

First with Ichabod 3 days ago

Quote:Mozarth: Hey Dantski

Ichabod here

9:55 PM Do you have a moment to talk about PBEM 6?

FFH PBEM 6

me: sure

9:56 PM Mozarth: Ok, it's going to be quick

I think I already mentioned a no compete agreement regarding the RoK religion

9:57 PM But with all this waiting between turns my diplomacy gets lost

me: true

that chat seems like ages ago

Mozarth: So, I'm here to make a formal proposition

9:59 PM I offer you a loan of earth mana for 10 turns, a no compete agreement for any religion that you desire and a NAP (if you wish, of course) for as long as turn 80

How about it?

me: i have a counter proposal

10:00 PM i just wont compete for it

and you be nice to me and other civs rest of game

id rather have positive relationship with you

than earth mana for 10 turns

10:01 PM Mozarth: Well, sounds good :P

me: also one minor thing

id like you to convert to order much later in the game

at a time of my choosing

10:02 PM you can convert right back to kilmorph

i have a mini victory condition

to get everyone good laignment

alignment*

im sure you'd like to help me with that!

10:05 PM Mozarth: Well, I'll need to have an order spread for it to work and I'll probably try to do it during a golden age to avoid the anarchy turns

me: yeah no problem

id handle the spread etc if its not natural

10:06 PM Mozarth: Ok, if you are willing to wait for a golden age, I have no problem with it

10:07 PM I wish my allignment was good anyway, since neutral can't get the prophet events

Ah, regarding events: are they on? I can't seem to remember having one this game...

10:08 PM me: they are

had my population reduced

Mozarth: argh

that's bad

especially on this crazy low food map

10:10 PM Just while we are at it, I'll offer another proposal

I'd like to borrow your water mana for 10 turns

10:11 PM What I offer in return is Law mana. I know that the law spells aren't good, but it's used for the tower of divination. So, I'll lend it to you for the time you need to build the tower (with some kind of limit, like 25 turns or something, but we can work on that latter).

7 minutes

10:19 PM me: ahh back was afk a minute

im sure ican lend you the water mana

10:20 PM just dont ask at the same time i need it ok? smile

10:23 PM putting all this in an email would be good

so i dont forget it a

10:26 PM Mozarth: ok

I'll draft something this week

me: ok

10:27 PM Mozarth: Thanks for your time Dantski

Have a good night!

me: g'night

I have no special interest in RoK or what he's offering so went for the relations boost instead. He did have a noticable pause after I told him I'd not compete and given his recent post in the tech thread about strategic decisions I'm likely jumping at conclusions that the 2 may be related.

Also a chat with Selrahc a week ago

Quote:7:52 PM Selrahc: Yo.

7:53 PM Quick diplo proposal for the far flung future...

me: gimme 5-10 mins!

Selrahc: Okay.

Ding when you're back.

5 minutes

7:59 PM me: k hit me

Selrahc: Just wondering if I can borrow your nature mana at some point in the future?

8:00 PM I'm planning on pushing for vitalization with Gibbon.

Pretty much as quickly as I can get him...

I've got Sciz lined up to pass me a nature mana. If you'd help out as well it would save me a promo.

8:01 PM me: well its certainly a possibility i wont rule out

but its also 100 turns away at least

Selrahc: I'm actually thinking I can get Gibbon within the next 70 turns.

When I say beeline... I mean it.

8:02 PM With the land I'm looking at, there is no need for any worker techs at all until I get the land terraformed.

me: interesting

so what do you propose we trade?

8:03 PM Selrahc: Well.. I was thinking a straight palace mana trade. Maybe with a resource thrown in.

me: oh hey i just got the save

i can look myself

Selrahc: I imagine you'll be going for early formers too.

With Corlindale.

8:04 PM me: well the land is bit more important to me than you thats for sure

hmm

not sure i can log into my gmail when i have aim on

8:05 PM as in i have the contacts in aim

but i have to go into gmail to see emails

Selrahc: Copy paste into notepad?

me: nm it was just slow

Selrahc: Ah, okay.

8:07 PM me: well

i think i could front you the nature mana

8:08 PM for an agreement about loaning me air mana at a time i desire

Selrahc: Okay.

That sounds reasonable.

me: got any mutated units yet btw?

Selrahc: Nope.

Sadly.

Early mutants are the funnest part of palace chaos mana.

8:12 PM me: you got mail

Selrahc: Whee.

Maybe we'll get back some of that regularity again.

8:14 PM me: the game just feels so much slower than last one

no barb cities to take

8:15 PM Ichabod is making good progress though

8:16 PM Selrahc: Oh. Have I missed something?

8:17 PM me: first person to adopt apprenticeship

8:18 PM education's cottages + godking + 2 cities

not too bad

Selrahc: Yeah.. sounds pretty good.

8:19 PM me: but then i guess im envious about kurios + your GNP

so heh lots of ways to be jealous

Selrahc: Kurio's gnp is worrying.

To me at least.

me: early academy

Selrahc: Because I was thinking I was set to be in a comfortable lead at the moment.

Yeah.

8:20 PM me: its possible he popped one too i guess

Selrahc: My spending the first 20 turns of the game doing absolute nothing continues to leave me slightly behind the curve.

8:21 PM I haven't even started my first settler yet frown

me: another water city?

Selrahc: Yes.

me: or back to the old capital site?

Selrahc: Nah.

That would just force me to dump beakers into workers techs.

8:22 PM Fishing is all I need.

No using that rubbish land until I've turned it into verdant fields.

8:23 PM me: is there anything nasty north of you?

gonna scout that way i think

Selrahc: Not that I've seen.

Not ventured up that way for a while.

me: hopefully there'll be some dungeons to pop

and ill get some wraiths

8:24 PM Selrahc: Doubtful. I think we cumulatively picked the map clean.

me: there was one west of ichabod

but scout died before i could open

Selrahc: You might have some luck scouring the coasts for graveyards.

8:25 PM me: is that a suggestion or a hint?

Selrahc: Um. Just that I've seen graveyards along the coasts.

But only popped 1.

I think people haven't been doing as much exploration of the coastal regions.

8:26 PM me: true its not my priority yet

i'm trying to meet JKaen still

Selrahc: You should probably continue with that then.

8:27 PM Not just because I'm eventually going to finish scouting the south coasts myself tongue

8:28 PM me: be sure to send all treasures to 110 Elohim Avenue

8:29 PM Selrahc: And the skeletons too?

me: of course, without a barracks i need some sort of free xp!

Selrahc: Heh

8:30 PM You're actually probably the civ with the most free xp.

What with all the spirit guides that will eventually be hovering around.

Generally making a nuisance of themselves.

me: well not most free xp

8:31 PM i just wont lose much

Selrahc: Hm. Okay. Yeah

8:32 PM You ever played the grigori?

Even without the adventurers, the adventurers guilds are awesome.

me: i never have

ive played maybe 1/3 of the civs

Selrahc: +2xp +2GP points, +25% GP generation.

8:33 PM Really cheap building.

I'm playing an AW unrestricted leaders game as the grigori.

Against Bob and Sareln.

8:34 PM Found a way to give grigori religions.

And thought that was an interesting enough twist to play a game around.

8:35 PM They both went for real power combos though..

So I've got to make sure to maximizee the utility of the civ.

me: wish you;'d known how to do that for PBEM1?

8:36 PM Selrahc: Well for the Illians it's easy to skirt agnostic with unrestricted leaders.

Since it's Auric who has the trait.

Might be a good adventure in assigning Auric to other civs.

8:37 PM But for the grigori it is slightly different.

Agnostic is a civ trait.

So whichever leader you pick gets agnostic added.

8:38 PM Same way the Hippus give horselord or the Sheaim give sundered.

me: so are you going to tell me how

Selrahc: Yes!

There is one leader who is a little weird.

8:39 PM Perpentach.

When he shuffles his insane wheel he gets three traits.

Losing any civ specific trait.

So the Grigori can worship gods, the Kuriotates stop living in ubercities, the elves lose their dexterity...

8:40 PM I heavily considered Kuriotates.

Because they've got some very nice unique buildings.

A tailor or jeweller across an entire empire?

Sounds quite nice.

8:41 PM But I decided I preferred to go for the religious grigori.

That threw up some weird blips though.

Like.. Grigori aren't allowed to build temples.

So no priests.

No disciples.

8:42 PM No easy way to spread religions.

Luckily, there is one religion that isn't so gauche as to rely on a priesthood.

Esus again.

8:43 PM me: i see

Selrahc: Sorry, being too long winded here. tongue

8:44 PM I mean, I've basically said what I wanted to say.

I'll get back to you on the nature when I'm closer to Esus.

me: Yo.
Quick diplo proposal for the far flung future...

thats how it all started

Selrahc: Yep.

Hey, I ramble on.

8:45 PM me: its ok

as long as you dont expect me to ramble back too much!

Selrahc: Yeah.

Lots of random FFH stuff in there that may or may not be of interest. Selrahc's deception beeline is probably going to put him behind TBH. He's lacking a lot of worker techs still. Anyway summary of the chat is something like, we'll trade his air mana for my nature and also there may be some lairs/stuff to pop on the coastlines.

Emails with Mardoc yesterday....

Mardoc Wrote:Dantski,

I've been neglectful on diplo, but I thought I should change that. So
how's life in the land of peace?

Us Kuriotates have been delayed on our second city, but we're planning
to plant it shortly, to our SE (away from you). We've met everyone
but Selrahc; it's a pain to get scouts past all the scorpions and
giants. In foreign news - well, we don't know much since we haven't
been talking to anyone, but hopefully that'll change soon.

We've confirmed and defogged a river path from our civ to yours, and
could be interested in trade, both Open Borders and possibly
resources. Admittedly, we don't have any excess right now, but it
shouldn't be too long before we have Ale and Fine Clothes for sale.

My reply

Dantski Wrote:Hi Mardoc

Welcome to the Dantski style of diplomacy! (not contacting people).

The land of peace has been hit with the odd famine but is otherwise a joyful place. Our citizens are especially proud of our military force which is surely the envy of other nations.

Too bad with the 2nd city being delayed, mine will be up next turn and could've been delayed if some wildlife decided to be a pest. Fortunately it scarpered pronto before the might of my settler. Settling SE should give you a better chance of contacting Selrahc, incidentally he moved to the coast for his capital if you didn't know already so is a little out of place to where he started. I have no such excuse for not contacting Jkaen's Amurites yet, but hey those animals were not swayed by my scouts reasonable views.

The river path is interesting, trade is definitely beneficial to both of us but I'd need Fishing to get the benefit and that's not high on my priorites right now. We can certainly discuss future trades when we have a connection sorted out.

In other news, I've talked to Selrahc + Ichabod a little, nothing of great interest really but our emails/chats are positive which is always a good thing! On the other hand, the Hippus are a concern as they seem most likely to threaten the peace upon our world.

Anyway nice job on the early sage and good luck!
