Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILER] PBEM21, "Zero to Hero" (Kuro, Pericles' Ottomania)

I just tested it and Shift + PrintScreen = Nameable Screenshots, so I'll do that.

I'll address the rest shortly, I have to get off the comp for a bit right now though.

Thanks to all the recent things, I redid the save. Except I named the capital Eridan instead of Aradia, because of the fish and more especially the WHALES.

@ Ichabod: I think you can make a case to settle in-land only for 1S or for different starts.

1S means you want a bigger production city and want the plains hill to be mined and not settled on top of.

Moving in any direction gives you a peak, an entirely useless tile, and doesn't get rid of much water(I think 1S or 1E both exchange like 5 for 2 or something). And moving 1SE is just silliness, being one tile off the coast.

Either that or they feel very risky with resources and want to hope for something else in the BFC too wink

Personally, I like coastal starts. I can build ship stuff immedietely if I want and water tiles won't be worked for a while, plus Moai water tiles are pretty good for a capital. Of course, this might not be an ideal Moai site.

If there's no other coastal capitals, I might make a run at TGL, but I figure Team Izzy would beat me to it, being a tech ahead. Also, I only have 3 forests to chop, so not as much production from that to the TGL as I'd hope.

@ Commodore: Thanks for the info! If it's a bigger map, that might slightly help me.

Also, random note: That Whales is coastal, not ocean. That means there must be a land tile behind it and that it will actually be a 4 commerce tile(3/2/4 after Moai + improvements).

Aw yeah I am already making save file errors whoo!

Alright, turn 1 is in!

Everybody settled in place turn 1 and nobody moved. So then, let's check the demographs!

From this, we can almost certainly confirm identical or near identical starts. Our GNP is all the same, which is consistant with all of us working a 1-commerce tile, with the exception of me @ 19: 2 due to Creative.

All of our crop yields are 5, consistant with a 3-food tile. Therefor, it is riverside corn or another riverside food resource.

The production for all civs is 2. Therefor, we all settled on a plains hill.

The clincher, of course, is the equal land area, which tells us that we all have 4000. Since moving in-land would both raise land count and move off of the plains hill and unless Krill went Magnificant Bastard on us and gave us non-identical starts, but all with grassland riverside food + the exact same amount of starting land/sea tiles, then we all have identical starts.

Unless we can 1/2-turn chop out The Great Lighthouse, we're out of it then. Izzy is a tech faster to chopping it out and Bismarck is IND, plus they have Expansive.

I also just now noticed I typo'd the capital of Eridan as Erodan lol However, I think that fits very well with Eridan's character! I'm tempted to keep it. Any thoughts from the lurkers?

Oh, right, I guess I should actually PLAY this turn...hehehe...

Oh, wait, actually...random question. Why does one civ have 88 health while the others have 87? Could an extra forest cause that?

Anyway...moving the Warrior 1S for scouting...

Look at that, delicious clams. Going to want to settle that.

Another pic for information purposes...

Notable information is Monarch being chosen over Prince, slightly more maintanence, and a "rocky" climate. This is probably hand drawn, so IDK if that rocky means anything...but we HAVE seen a good deal of hills and a peak.

Just from initial the first two turns, I'm going to fling some wild map guesses:

If we share a continent, we will only share it from one side, which is the one away from water. So you'll have to protect your rear from naval backstabs and front from invasion.
Our initial continent will be oddly shaped or not very big(Judging from tile bleeding coast near the clams)
Everybody has an initial island in view of their capital. There's one for every two players to create strife as each shares one and it will be difficult to defend(Yet colonization is key due to the above point)

I'm definately not going to hold on to these preconcieved notions for long. If anything, I expect to be proven wrong shortly.

I can't see anything to micro until the Worker is finished, so I end my turn.

Current tech path idea is Mining -> BW -> Fishing -> ???(Sailing? AH? Something unforeseen?)

Also, random comment...

I enjoy team Eli, or as I will call them now, Ellimoogle Carpathia. They are the only other team that renamed their leader. I like that. I will admit being sad to see they did not rename their civ yet, though.

Turn end, Sid Pro Quo.

Also next time I'll position the name-y thing better XD hehe. Don't worry, the stuff it blocked is all stuff you knew.

Oh, also, warrior will obviously head 1SE next turn.

Turn in. No significant changes.

Let's move that Warrior 1SE.

Anybody order up some GOLD?!

AAAAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA!

I think the Warrior should move 1 SE, revealing coast for food resources, then...1NE?

Not as much to say this turn. It's an early turn is probably why, one of the small starting breathes in the great cosmic cradle of civilization. ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE VERY BIG CLICK FOR A DOUCHEBAG BEHIND A COMPUTER!

...

Um, right. Me not being funny aside, turn end.

On Turn 5, although we should only be able to see it Turn 6, all the EXP leaders should switch to tha Grassland Forested hill for the production bonus.

Their Worker would be out in...

Turn 1: 5/60
Turn 2: 10/60
Turn 3: 15/60
Turn 4: 20/60
Turn 5: 26/60
Turn 6: 32/60
Turn 7: 38/60
Turn 8: 44/60
Turn 9: 50/60
Turn 10: 56/60
Turn 11: Completed!

Since we're on 2 turns right now, they get their Worker out...1 turn early? That doesn't seem like as much as it should...

Border expansion next turn too for me, ofc.

End of turn thing shows the border pop.

Huh. Not a single resource. I can tile bleed 2 grassland hills and a plains hill though, I think.

Turn end.

I have just been informed by my Ministry for the Dignity of the Retarded that I've been saying E when in reality, I meant W.

...Sorry about that.

Aw yeah, another turn.

Now that I have learned the mystical art of "which way is west and which way is east", I get a +1 production bonus to my ability to write factual turn reports.

Following the footsteps of Ellimoogle Carpathia, Team Mali becomes an extremely NobleLewwyn and I am now facing a Jkioan. As the only one without a teammate or any real lurker presence, I get to just be Aradia.

It seems pretty obvious to settle where the Warrior is. Double food resources for whipping and I can park on that Gold when I need to bang out a tech, to avoid strikes or other stupid stuff, while regrowing...ecetera.

Demographics remain the same.

I'm going to look to see if anybody discovers a tech on turn 5. Any tech discovered next turn has to be Hunting or Fishing. Turn 7 has to be Mysticism or Mining.

Oh, you can also see where land to my westward was discovered. I'll be heading there next. Barring it being bigger over there, my assumptions may be proven.

As of these words, it took 9 minutes to play this turn and write this report.
