Whosit Clowns Around in EitB PBEM XXVI [SPOILERS!]

Oh, is that like... I saw you could use a FoL missionary to either spread religion or add a flat 20 culture, enough to pop borders. Is that the same idea?

Yup.

But only to people worshipping the Fellowship of Leaves. Although forests won't downgrade if you swap out, at least.

Or people who've conquered elves in FoL, however that means you have to wait a good long while, and also depend on AI idiocy for all your improvements, where you'll get a tundra city all cottaged up and grassland/fp paradise workshopped to the detriment of both food and commerce.

Of course in this game the latter part doesn't apply.

The only acolyte which can't pop borders is the AV one. Instead they give a flat 20 beakers (more or less depending on game speed) to the tech you're researching (IIRC on which tech). Nerfs the acolytes a lot, necessitating that you build acolytes of whatever other religion you get for attacking purposes.

Its not even the tech your researching (IIRC) they operate as GP with a bulb list and all.

Sounds like you'd probably be better off building research. Is there even an advantage to using an AV acolyte like that?

Yeah, pretty much. The only decent secondary benefit of Savants(the AV disciple) is that you can upgrade them to mages at level 4.

The Clan of Embers can build double the amount of almost any unit at the same cost, and even for them it isn't worthwhile to use savants for research. Savants also use the great sage bulb preferences, which is pretty inflexible.

Building research/gold/culture, on the other hand, is done at a 50% penalty. It's usually only worthwhile for culture, but you can still get failgold from wonders and other "limited" builds, such as heroes or national units.

"Mr. Mammon!" - I run after him, puffing a little from the excersise
"Yes WorldBuilder? What is it?" He snaps, clearly in some great hurry, for he does not halt his brisk stride.
"Sir, I would very much appreciate it if you speak of your chosen race, (perhaps even send a sign?) - they have a place in a new world I am devising!"
"What race? I espouse no people but those who dwell in my city - I suppose you could say ALL races are mine, for most reside here in the end,"
"I speak of the followers of Perpentech - the Balseraphs-" He stops abruptly at this, and I barely stop in time to avoid running into him.
"You think they're mine???" - He exclaims, clearly shocked.
"Welllll they do draw mainly from thed sphere of MInd and we've noticed that every race is related to some God or another-" I babble out, wilting before his indignant stare.
"Just because some crazy clown taps into my sphere DOES NOT mean I endorse those crazy idiots!"
"But haven't you been called crazy before?"
"Not like him," He mutters darkly, "Not like him..."

"Well they're there anyway - its too late to evict them - couldn't you send them some sign of favo-," I stop abruptly, already sensing his reaction, "I mean, maybe a mane or something? Just because everyone else is getting one of course - and no-one else will patron-"
"I would never patron that clown,"
"I was going to say patronize! It'll be like your showing your contempt for it,"
"Hmm that wouldn't be impossible - I'll give him a prophecy one too, so that he'll have to destroy it or be destroy himself! ANd a cage so he'll lose units freeing it! Muhahaha!!!!"
"You're sure you've nothing to do with that crazy clown?"

Interesting. Probably over 9,000 Archerons stacked next door though.

Nice writing for the intro Qgqqqqq.
