[SPOILERS] Pindicator helps clean up SMEGmod

Turn 041

On the way to our third stop of this pilgrimage we were met by a fog that hung around all morning, with a light rain falling from time to time. By midday though the sun came out and fell hot on our tired backs. I wanted to continue on, but after crossing the River Arga into Zubiri I was very tired and the sun was very hot. I almost pressed on but then remembered that there is no rush through this. I am here to enjoy the moment. And so I stayed in Zubiri:

Of course, just north of that silver was a far better city location. Plains hill plant, dry wheat north of it. Too bad I didn't see it until the turn after I planted.

The pier in St Jean is going to net 3 commerce a turn. After that we'll start another settler for grabbing the pigs south of the capital and the fish on the south coast. I might have that city grab the copper with a border pop, too. Undecided on that. Mysticism needs to come soon; I want to at least pop the borders in Zubiri and possibly go for Stonehenge.

Pretty demos:

Tech path?

Mysticism, Archery, and Writing are all priorities after I finish AH.

Turn 045

Found us another neighbor! This is just north of me; in fact, I'm planning on settling S-SW of that dye within the next 10 turns

Back home I was really second-guessing my choice to go for AH ahead of Mysticism. But when we got the tech I found that I have horses in the capital. So we hooked them up this turn and sped up the completion time of the next settler by a turn.

This settler is going to go S-SW of the copper, so it can work the pig 3rd ring of the capital. It will start with a work boat, work the pigs when the work boat is finished, and then have a pier chopped out when it's time to work the fish at size 2. Also seen is Roncesvalles with it's absurd +11 food. Warrior is needed for MP there, and after that it will make a settler for settling north towards GermanJoey.

But really I want to head west. That's where all the really neat resources are:

Spices? Oh that changes everything. I don't want any stupid spices; I want dyes!

I'll just plant have to plant 3N of Roncesvalles instead of 5N

Turn 048

I woke with the light. I have taken off my watch and center my days around the light of the sun or the weather around me. It is a different pace, and one that still takes some getting used to. Some people have brought alarms that go off before the sun rises, but I prefer to wake with the rest of the world and the sounds around me. Still, I snuck a peek at my watch after I had set my pack and brushed my teeth: it just before 7. Breakfast would come in a small town a few kilometers down the road.

By midday we reached the outskirts of Pamplona, a simple meal was put together: bread I had bought the previous day in Gerendiain, a pear, hard cheese, jamón. Oh, jamón! Those six slices were perhaps the best thing I have ever tasted. I made my rest for the day early at the edge of the city, at Casa Paderborn. A quick shower, change out of sweaty clothes, and then we were off to see castles and citadels and stadiums and Hemmingway monuments.

Our 4th night brings us to Pamplona:

And barbarians are at the gate!

In fact, barbarians are in many places in this world:

The warrior by GermanJoey is headed back; I counted my turns and I need to bring him back now to cover that new settler which is being made in Roncesvalles. I also rethought making that settler move so far north: it will be far better for us to grab that whales in first ring of the new city rather than have to wait for us to build 'Henge and wait 10 turns, or fail the wonder and have to whip a monument.

Also, Stonehenge ETA is ~11 turns. If I did the math right, which is possible I didn't, because I did it all in my head at work today. But St Jean is going to be making 17hpt very soon, and once I hook up the Silver (worker out of Zibiri is due in 2t) and the Whales (city #5, Puente la Reina, will grab that by going 3N of Roncesvalles) then we'll be able to grow the capital to size 7 and pull in a whopping 20hpt, perhaps more.

I should have pushed harder for 'Henge. I forgot that monuments offer +2 commerce in this mod. So it's like having a free ICTR in every city. And since I'm Ethiopia it also gives me 2 free merchant slots in every city. Damn i hope nobody else is going for it.

Nice post, especially the narrative bit. By the way, I love how Civ 4 messes up with job productivity all around the globe. lol

Thanks! Although I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing with those yet; I'm kind of figuring it out as I go. Glad it's working so far.

Anybody miss the old isometric view from Civ3?

I double-checked; it is in fact 8 turns to Stonehenge completion. Capital grows to size 6 in 2 turns, which is when the silver mine will finish to let us work that 6th tile.

That barbarian in the south could be trouble. I think it's 90% chance to win, but 10% chance to really get screwed.

And settler for city #5 is coming out next turn!

Well that really blows. Barb wins a 9% battle with 4hp remaining.

I'm not sure if barbarians are coming inside borders yet or not, but I'm not taking any chances. The pig pasture is now delayed. We do have a single warrior in the area that I'm shuffling over to Pamplona. And I whipped a chariot at penalty at Roncesvalles, when I really wanted to whip a lighthouse there instead. But no amount of troops can beat unlucky rolls.
