[SPOILER] Pacal II of China -Vets- Whosit

Nice idea laying the trap, although if he saw the axeman pop last turn, I'm not sure he'll take the bait smile

Agree that the road 1W would've been nice.

Doesn't the city centre count towards land area as well? In that case shouldn't it be 9000 / 21000 / 37000 square miles for 1st, 2nd and 3rd ring cities, respectively?
I have to run.

I don't think he could have seen the Axe yet, but I could be wrong. Anyway, shouldn't break my game if he did or didn't or if I have to chase him around. Not sure what will help me think of things like that road when I need it, since some of these ideas come to me a couple hours after the fact. cry

That's what I thought, but it doesn't seem to add up that way. The demos clearly say that my land area is 20000, not 21000, so it doesn't seem as though it counts the city center. That's also how the calculations work out for my opponents, as I showed.

Your land area is 20k because you have a lake tile within your borders, and water tiles of all kind (lakes, coastal, ocean) do not count towards that statistic. One mystery solved for you.

Oh. Well, there we go. Re-did previous calculations. I think my overall conclusion is still correct, though perhaps everyone has a water tile in their BFC. Dunno. We'll see.

Quick report 'cuz I stayed up past my bedtime. Pictures an' more tomorrow.

Cyneheard has Copper in his BFC, connected via river. Bastid didn't even need to research the Wheel! Might explore further, but expect an Axeman to greet me, so I may just mosey past. Would be nice to get vision into his Capital, though.

Ky's Warrior is getting into a corner, although a peak to the west will make it hard to pin him down and kill him.

I think Worker will finish chop a turn before Pottery finishes. Didn't time things well there. Not sure what I'll do with him. Maybe Chop/Mine the other hill, and have the second Worker do some Cottaging when it's done with the road.

I think I'll whip the Settler into a Granary, then perhaps build either Worker/Axeman depending on what's appropriate.

Got vision on Ky's demos. He's edging me out in GDP (not too important at this stage, but maybe he's researching something with double pre-req bonus? Oh, wait, second city. Durrrr.) I'm beating him in Manufactured goods (I think I'm near the top there), a bit more food (I'm average overall), a bit more power (maybe due to Axeman). 'Course, with a second city already, that can change quickly.

I know what I must do. Though 24 hour turns make me seem all the more slow.

Huh. I coulda sworn that I had completed last turn's report. Well, looks like I'm doing a double take again.

Well, turn 25 pictures . . .

OK, so now for turn 26.

Yeuuuup. Mostly Harmless is going to become Certainly Harmless pretty soon. Though I will laugh and laugh if I somehow win the <1% battle that is going to take place. lol cry

But now I see what happened here. Cyneheard must have started on the hill my warrior is currently standing on, with the cow in range and the corn visible but out of the BFC (and Copper in 1st ring, of course). I took the sissy route and settled on the plains hill, losing out on Wheat (I should probably have moved 1SE). Will I end up regretting my decision? Probably. Instead of one really food-rich city, I'll get a couple of mediocre ones. However, I really wanted the extra security of the hill. Probably a trap for n00bs like me. I'll be interested to see if anyone else stayed in place, since I assume everyone was given a similar choice.

I actually flipped a coin before this coin-flip battle. Well, I won! Lucky me, I don't have to chase down that Warrior now. What an unlikely hero I have discovered. Hey, that's a good name for him!

Buddhism has been taken, as well. The race for the Oracle is already on, I bet. I'll probably be too late, but if I can get that Marble hooked up, I may still have a shot. We'll have to see. A slim shot at best, I think.

I could have sworn I took a picture of this turn's demos, but I seem to swear a lot of things that aren't true. The average land value went up, though. Not sure if that's due to a Border pop or another city down. Oh, and didn't take a picture, but my eastern Warrior is about 2 turns from Ky's borders (and probably 2 turns from an Axe to the face).

Just took a look. Ky is in a big lead with thread views. Wonder if he's the favorite in our game (though I am #2! Yay!). I also noticed that nearly all of the Vets are leading in views, with the Greens trailing far behind. Are the Greens less interesting to read? I wonder.

The big drop is between Cyneheard and Krill, who has half the posts and half the views. Jowy nearly matches Krill in views. Darrelljs is the outlier, a Vet within Green "territory." That's ordered by thread views.

Ordered by number of posts, it's a bit more murky. Many Greens have a few more posts than some of the Vets, but fewer thread views. However, 4 out of 6 Vets have more posts than any of the Greens, so overall, it seems that the Greens are posting less, which may also be an indication of fewer views. 'Course, I check the e-mail thread now and again, and I recall that they were having some issues, so they could be behind us. I'll have to go back and check sometime (read: Never).

Anyway, I'm solid second place in both posts and views (not counting non-player threads), and I'm pretty confident in my ability to deliver (if not always on time). I also try to minimize tangential posts such as this one. It's the first one in five pages (I think), so not too bad! I can't remember if Kylearan is one of the players who tends to write several small posts, though it really doesn't matter either way. Still, I suppose it's my prerogative to make views a badge of pride if I am so inclined. Eh, meh. I mean, I like to think that I'm being read, but the patterns here are also interested. I'm just a little sad that I'm not in a position to really test my little theory (supposing it is even testable, anyway). Another question is how many posts are from someone who isn't the player. I've had a few, I know.

Anyway, enough of this. I should go do. Stuff. Heh. At least my non sequiturs are long enough to warrant a full post. Well, I say so, anyway.

It's only natural that those who have featured in games here on the site already have developed a sort of fan base that follows them to other games, not to mention that the vet game is the first and only one to present an always war setting. Personally I don't really care for the always war stuff all that much, but it's a lot of fun to follow your paranoia and, ahem, 'interesting' decisions.wink I imagine this is what Stalin's report thread would've looked like had he made one when he was in charge of the Soviet Union.
