Played T351 and got hit with a humorous message:
So I've been researching at 0% the entire time and I'm still "more advanced" ... Not sure how this number is calculated (techs + pop or something I'm guessing?), but apparently I'm winning in it somehow. Demos:

It's probably just number of technologies and you won the tie due to being last in turn order.
Also, your crop yield + mfg is now double dazed's. Ouch.

Makes sense.

Yeah, and the lead is getting bigger every turn and probably will continue to do so... I've tried to show glimpses of it when I get a chance, but when I see the edge of his land, there's tons of unimproved tiles, whereas I have close to 0 unimproved and workable tiles. Several cities are set for their next 3-4 population. The one thing I'm missing is a good rails network, so that's next on the to-do list. Also I just need to start pushing out settlers and fill out my land, then just build up and kill him when I'm closer to his borders.

You've done really well, Scooter, for a Modern first timer. A couple mistakes in the first few turns, but you have ultimately built your land the proper way. You've got this one in the bag, I think. Actually, I called the game as won on T1, based upon civic choices.

Thanks! Hopefully I don't find a way to screw it up!
Any tips/pointers? Any mistakes I made that you could elaborate on? I tried to show specifics of my plan in the opening turns so that I could get advice on what to do better.

Played two more turns. Dazed trapped my Marine in his land, so he'll kill it eventually... His road network is very weak, so he can't kill it right now (I don't think) so I'll mess around a little, hopefully getting him to build more military, and then I'll delete him when he's as good as gone to prevent him from getting experience out of it. I've got an explorer stacked with him for vision. He hit my Marine with an airship which of course did almost no damage, but interesting that he has one. Probably mostly for recon I guess? Probably a good move, although his cultural borders are big enough that I wonder if it even matters.
Dazed also killed my ship of the line with a battleship, so he used that uranium after all. I have my own battleship on the sea so I'm keeping an eye out for him... But unfortunately he got a promo so I'll need a second battleship probably. Such is life and the nature of naval combat.

Wireless died and forum ate my post so I'll be brief. Lost my Marine/Explorer. Found his battleship, here are the odds:
Obviously didn't attack... Built a 1T destroyer (instead of a 2T battleship) which will be used to redline his battleship and then I'll get the kill. Working on two settlers right now. Demos continue to be dominant... Good stuff!

First the sacrifice:
Then the kill:
Destroyer was just perfectly in range... I think he was expecting a bship and not a destroyer, so I was barely in range with my destroyer. Worked out well - hammer exchange favors me, and ... let's just say I can afford hammers more than he can:

Can you post an overview shot of your land?

Sure. Here's the north:
South:
Workers are basically just filling out a rail network while I wait for more settlers to finish. I knew settlers were expensive, but I think I underestimated just how costly they are. Here's a shot of the north that is "my land":
South:
This is T357 so 32 turns into the game.
