With only 5 players, we can firstpick the generically strong India and still be guaranteed a good leader. If we go Pacal, my bet is that Incas don't make it back round to us.

Someone might, partly for denial. Pacal is pretty darn sweet even without Inca, though. What do we prefer, Fast Workers or cheap workers with half-price granaries?

zakalwe Wrote:Being last in turn order, I think we need to weigh any wonder plans carefully. How does the trade route bug affect the value of the GLH?

Good question, and the answer is badly. Since we're last in turn order, our mainland cities will pick international +2 trade routes with all other nations over domestic intercontinental +2 trade routes to our own island cities. Which means that our mainland cities will use up all the international trade routes, and our island cities will be stuck with domestic +2 trade routes when they could have gotten +3 international intercontinental trade routes to our rivals' mainland cities.

The GLH is still pretty good without international trade routes though. Still, standard rexing with Pacal is definitely a more versatile plan.

Inca will not make it back to 10th. What about Sury though? If the top four FIN civs get by we can go EXP/CRE of India and go for the Pyramids. Plenty of food.

Second in the snake pick might be better if we want FIN and a power civ.

I wouldn't be that worried about not getting Inca e.g. some Wheel/Agri nation would also give a good start combined with Pacal.

One negative for Expansive is that there aren't 4 hammers available so we wouldn't get head start for our 1st worker.

One problem with India is subpar starting techs (Mysticism+Mining). This isn't Huge/Emperor but Standard/Prince, but still.

One option is to follow Plako's suggestion and mine the pigs, allowing us to delay Animal Husbandry and get e.g. Pottery instead. Working mined pigs also triggers the expansive bonus, so we could go Bronze Working out of the gate and go Worker->Worker (with chop).

That works out well with Expansive at least, so this is a possible opening for Sury of India. We'll have two fast workers to farm the corn and flood plain, and then chop settlers or whatever.

What tile yield would we get if we settled ON the pigs?

2/2/1 because you just get the unimproved yield.

That's a very interesting idea novice nod. Let's talk scouting for a second.

My fog-reading abilities aren't great (especially without a save), so some of this may be wrong.

I was leaning towards 78; as plako said upthread if you want to settle "E" you scout out "A" to make sure you aren't missing anything really juicy. I favor some very fast scouting to the NE with the Warrior then bringing him home for defense.

Settling on the wines might give the research edge needed for getting AH in time. Not sure if its worth it, but it's an option.
