Turn 0:
Moved the scout. Saw no reason to move. Settled in place. Current tech plan: Ag (farms and meadows), Wheel (roads + optional prereq for Pottery), Pottery (+1 food for farms, cheap granary, fin cottages), Hunting (pasture), AH (+1 food from pastures, locate horses). Then Fishing (pier), Archery (slavery, Pro Archers). City builds: Worker, warrior, Granary, Pier, part build warrior, Settler (2 pop whipped at size 5), archer Tile improvements: Farm Corn, Pasture Sheep, 2 cottages (6 and 6,6 of Capital) then roads to 2nd city site.

Of course it's Lanun. I feel like AH, at least, should be delayed. 1 food is not a whole lot, and it's probably too early for horses to matter. I don't know I'd be too sad to delay Hunting as well, maybe substitute Mining for it and mine the sheep tile? Or head for Masonry and get some chops going? Nothing rigorous behind that, just gut.

Mines are weak until Bronze Working adds the second hammer.
With both Archery (whip and Archers) and AH in the tech plan and over 200 land tiles per player, Bronze can be delayed a bit.1 food extra from the Sheep means a 16% increase in surplus food and a corresponding increase in growth rate. ![]() Chopping would require a second early worker. Not the end of the world but it does mean delaying one of: Settler, granary, pier (commerce) or unit. Masonry soon, but I think after Myst/Settler. We'll want Myst for either Henge or a monument in 2nd city and an early religion is a possible play.

Humbug. 1 hammer mines? That's no better than our forested hill. It certainly means there won't be much point in picking up Mining until we can carry on straight to Bronze - unless Krill added something at Mining that I'm also overlooking?
I suppose if we have both granaries and the whip unlocked, that food should be the highest priority, yes. Hmm, looking at your recent screenie, we've got an ocean to the south, lake to the east, and unknown something wet to the west? I had been skeptical about Fishing, but I can see it'll be required pretty early.

Like the other worker techs Mining is really cheap, so it gives your worker something useful to do (build mines) while you wait for Bronze Working to finish, at which point you may actually want to use the mines. Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon (April 2nd, 2015, 13:46)spacetyrantxenu Wrote: Like the other worker techs Mining is really cheap, so it gives your worker something useful to do (build mines) while you wait for Bronze Working to finish, at which point you may actually want to use the mines. Ahhh. That's the sort of thing that would be much more useful for a gut player like me than a micro-planner like Thoth.

Yeah, all the basic tile improvements are now two stage: unlock and then a buff with a later tech. Mining gives mines and is an optional pre-req for Masonry. Quote:I suppose if we have both granaries and the whip unlocked, that food should be the highest priority, yes. Well, we did pay a civ trait to get Pro granaries so might as well get some mileage out of them. I had been skeptical about Fishing, but I can see it'll be required pretty early. Fishing is mostly for the commerce: Pier gives us the riverside commerce and helps to give us the bonus Financial commerce from the two cottages (once they become hamlets). It's also an optional pre-req for Archery so it'll pay for it's self pretty fast. There is salt water to the north and the south plus the lake beside Lisbon.
