I joined in part for the point system, so I'd be sad to use an other picking method...

Points-based snake pick is fine by me.

For reference:

Old Costs:
4: FIN
3: EXP, ORG, India, Inca
2: SPI, IND, CRE, Vikings, Dutch
1: PHI, Holy Rome, All other Agriculture civs
0: IMP, CHA, AGG, PRO, All other civs

New Costs:
4: FIN
3: EXP, India, Inca
2: SPI, IND, CRE, ORG
1: PHI, IMP, Civs that start with Agriculture Tech
0: CHA, AGG, PRO, All other civs

Changes:
- IMP costs 1 instead of 0 (+1)
- ORG costs 2 instead of 3 (-1)
- Holy Rome costs 0 instead of 1 (-1)
- Vikings costs 0 instead of 2 (-2)
- Dutch costs 0 instead of 2 (-2)

I'm fine with the points method of picking

I'll go with the points system; it intrigues me

would removing both india & Inca as well be too harsh?
PBEM12 - Shaka of Inca [6/6*] PBEM18 (Apps) - Augustus of China [4/4*] PBEM31 - Hannibal of Greece [jnt2-4/5*] PBEM72 - Willem of Oranje - Dutch [3/4*] PBEM74A -Catherine of Babylon [4/4][*ended early]

Exp Inca or India is OP. This is BTS, India and Inca need to be up there somewhere.

I recommend putting CRE at 3 points.

I can see the case for that change, but a lot depends on the map and difficulty. Ideally, we'd either lock in the costs and the mapmaker would proceed accordingly, or the mapmaker would make the map and then give us the costs.

I don't know how much of this is decided, but I like the idea of both games having the same map. I think it would be intriguing to see how identical situations are addressed by both sets of rivals.

Secondly, I also propose a game 74c, sending the top two players in each game to a finals match and on a different map of course. (Summer 2017). nod

Adrien: Looks like we all want that system then. Glad to have you.

El Grillo/Alhazard: Those changes were purely my personal opinion and are open for discussion. I am more than happy to leave this in the hands of the mapmaker/lurkers to decide. I suppose I just thought that the more we can do for ourselves, the better as the mapmaker has already got a lot on his plate now! Thanks again BRick!

I agree with Alhazards suggestion about creative. Suryavaraman just looks too obvious a first pick as it was!

That puts us at (if we were settling this ourselves before the map): v1.2

4: FIN
3: EXP, CRE, India, Inca
2: SPI, IND, ORG
1: PHI, IMP, Civs that start with Agriculture Tech
0: CHA, AGG, PRO, All other civs

I think that system looks pretty reasonable. I will request subforums for us. As we are using the same map, please remember not to read any threads from the mirror game as you may gain map knowledge (not relevant now, but eventually).

Donovan: I think your idea is fantastic. I actually like the idea of having two follow up games. Top 2 from a and b play each other and the bottom 2 also. Almost like a reflexive difficulty setting. Oh you came third in the first game, no problem, you may be a favourite in the second. Who knows what life will hold for us all at that point but I'm certainly in favour of the idea for now.

I'd go with option 3, just to be different ... But frankly i don't think i bother enough that it could be a deal breaker
