[SPOILERS] Bacchus and India's many gods

(June 14th, 2017, 08:53)Bacchus Wrote: Why would I want such a bonus is a great question. I wouldn't adopt that belief at founding ever. But it's quite nice to keep some faith in reserve to instaboost at least some proportion of your troops +10 in the face of an attack.

Oh - I actually have no idea how strong it is, or whether you would want that belief itself. My facetious question would have been better phrased, "And if you're considering investing significant resources in a special tile-based combat bonus for your units, why would you want a way to know in advance which tiles it would actually boost?"

Didn't have time to check the city-state radar last turn, this turn brings two pieces of news:

Might not be able to build Henge city as I wanted it, but it seems I should get two city-states. I sure hope these aren't human neighbours.

Also, interesting fact, if I settled in place, I would not have picked up the information about the northern neighbour, as my own capital would be colouring that tile red as well.

EDIT: Actually, that's not true. Also, as you can see the Warrior is uncovering great lands, which is unsurprising for the jungle belt. There is a river to his south. Eastern CS will be scouted by slinger, albeit I hope it will blunder into me with a unit of its own.

Also, note to self -- pointless to check settler overlay on T1, as CS settle on interturn.

Slinger first should yield a first contact CS in the east as well, if the AI ends up drunk. You probably would have switched off builder now.

With the spices the first dot on the map is revealed a nice city. 1 NW of the warrior?

I'm planning to settle right where warrior is, so that nice 3 mountain campus tile is in the second ring and can be bought if needed.

The Campus always leaves me with an underwhelmed feeling, as their Great Persons leave something to be desired. Especially compared to the GM, GG and GE.

The western city state is Hattusa, and we do get our free envoy, which is a nice boost -- Irrigation as an early tech is a heavy burden on science. Also makes a Campus that little bit better, if I choose to pursue the suzerain bonus, which is access to a copy to every resource that I know how to develop, even if I don't have it in my borders. No need to hunt for iron, horses or niter, very pleasant.

Either Ichabod or suboptimal jumped ahead of me in culture, which means they either found a cultural CS, or are working/have settled a cultural tile. Could also be a relic, but we have no huts in this game, partly exactly because of them. Good for the mystery winner, early culture is very strong.

The warrior will now go west a step, then come down to that souther river peeking out of the fog and circle back to the capital around that mountain ridge.

News of the turn:

Game mechanic finding of the turn:

So the ties are broken in reverse player order. So it wasn't Ichabod jumping ahead of me in culture, but Kaiser now seems to have, he is ranked first, and that's the only category where he is ranked first. On Domination and religious we are all still rabked in reverse player order, as are the four guys below me in science.

Rowain, and only him, grew a pop point, he is the only one to have been working a 3-food tile these early turns (or maybe 4 food? don't think so). The pop lets us unravel some of the workings of the score screen. His overall score went to 7, he jumped to second place in science after me, but only to third place in culture, after Kaiser (first place) and Ichabod. Rowain is also first on domination (population seems to count in military strength?) and jumped up on the religious victory, even though pop doesn't produce faith. It's possible that there is something else going on with faith, but not clear what, especially as Rowain is still only third on Religious, after Suboptimal and Ichabod.

What does it all amount to? On culture output, Kaiser > Ichabod > Rowain, suggesting that Kaiser has a cultural city state, whilst Ichabod is working a culture tile. On religion, stuff is really weird. It seems that both Suboptimal and Ichabod found religious city states? Suboptimal has at least no less religion than Ichabod, and unless Ichabod is working a tile that gives both faith and culture (some sort of natural wonder?), he can't really have faith output except via a city-state. If there are multiple religious city-states in the game, that's very good for us, as it will push people to build holy sites and found religions, activating our own faith "peace tax" (we get +5 faith per turn for every civ that we've met that has founded a religion and that's not at war).

Domestically nothing interesting. Tile picker is jumping around across all resources, so we are equally likely to have any tile next. I'm really hoping that at least one of the two tiles grabbed is rice, to get the Eureka for Irrigation. There are three rice tiles there, so come on.

With Hattusa around, the campus makes a lot more sense.

By the way, what is your first quest with them? If it is doable, a campus becomes even more interesting.
