[LURKERS] PB27 Map & Lurking: Walking in a :weed: wonderland

jeezus xenu. what does the score look like?

by the way, here's a look at the gavagai/krill situation in non-toroid view, using the map I drew for T110:

(the plus sign borders are tsargon's pre-war borders)

dashed borders are the tentative borders if universal peace were declared this turn, the red dot is the city krill had been threatening to artist-bomb, and the hatched area is where krill and gavagai will be ripping each other's throats out. for those who didn't watch the stream, the hatched area looks something like this:

Krill planted a city this turn where that chariot is.

IMHO Krill is nuts for talking about how much land is out there in the New World (his estimate of ~750 tiles is about right), and then spending thousands of hammers picking a fight to the death w/ Gav for scraps. he's wrong that taomack would be able to get all 750 of that (they could get about 1/3 in an extremely optimistic scenario), but 250 tiles is surely a lot more important to fight about than 40 or so, or however many are in this little area.

i mean, look how goddamn long his supply chain is and remember that a.) his unit-producing core is still further off-screen, to the north east, and also that he does not have engineering:

also offscreen, to the northwest, is yet ANOTHER city. a chain of 6 cities, one after the other - this is the very definition of over-extended.

edit: and isn't the point of this standoff with Gav so that Krill has an easier time absorbing HAK? When is he supposed to have time for eating HAK if he's in an eternal standoff with Gav?? and speaking of HAK, what does Krill do if HAK just decides to do some random HAK-ish thing and attack that size-8 city to the lower right, whose name I can't read, with a sizable WE stack? The hatched area would be completely cut off from reinforcements!!

Krill has built the case for this path from the root goal of getting HAK's shrine. It's not a crazy goal, except that the goal will still be there AFTER he beelines islands... I think he's forgotten the real prize here. But playing rushed will do that every time, bummer for all of the players and lurkers.

well don't let him fool you too much from what he's posting in his thread about that; i definitely believe he's stressed and busy IRL, which sucks and I can definitely sympathize with, especially right now, but "playing rushed" for him means 90 minute to 2 hour turns for the last dozen or so... http://www.civstats.com/viewplayer.php?g...ayernum=21

Krill is gonna be so disappointed if he ever gets that shrine, and finds out its only bringing in like 20gpt... frown

He may well not have time to spend 90 minutes per turn on the game and then do it anyway. I'm guessing that the time he doesn't have that he spends anyway gets removed from his sleep budget. That's a reason I've not signed up to play more games, because I am incapable of limiting my time playing the games in in The only way to guarantee I can get more sleep is to not owe my Civ mistress a few hours a week.

Yeah, the shrine thing is crazy here compared to PB18. Has anyone else besides HAK got a shrine up, and are they making much of it yet? I'm pretty sure no one is getting that PB18 shrine money, those were worth planning your conquests around.

GJ, top score is just below 7000, second place around 6000. The game is up on Civstats, it's the Happy New Year game (link in my last post).

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

4-5 hours of sleep but 2 hours civ turns is my kind of gamer! [Image: emot_patriot_gif_no_Cache_1452165382.gif]

Haven't heard of any other shrine. IIRC, Adrien has the Hindu holy city, Gav has the Jewish holy city, REM has the former-Commodorian Confucian holy city, I have no idea who has the Christian holy city, and I think Taomack have the Tao holy city. So, that Buddhist one is the only one.

For all the bluster in his thread, Krill would certainly have been better served by deescalating the military tension with Gavagai and putting those units to better use actually acquiring new territory. He can make every argument in the world to counter, but the fact is that if you shove a pile of units in someone's face they are either going to respond with force or die. He should have found a way to make it obvious to Gavagai that his units were headed in a different direction and go conquer someone else, particularly if he is that concerned that taomack are running away with things. It's only a stalemate blood-feud if you insist on making it one.

He could have done that, if he were willing to give up a little ground to do so. Krill is never willing to give up an inch of ground.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Give an inch, take a mile. Krill even mentions that Gavagai did not want to compromise by splitting the spoils of Tsargon's corpse during the stream. I think this is tunnel vision, focusing completely on Gavagai because Taomack appear to be running away with things. Whether the Dutch can be caught is another subject for debate but making decisions based on the assumed certainty that the game is lost that don't even improve your civ's position is kind of crazy to me. So what if mack is running away with things? That doesn't mean that Krill should run his army into a meat grinder, or cause such a situation to have occurred. If Gavagai is a less-enlightened player as Krill contends then don't wave the bloody meat in front of his face. Redirect him to another target instead.

That said, I'm looking forward to the carnage. Commissar

Yup, that hits the nail on the head. That's what I meant when I was saying that I didn't think that a lack of sleep was the reason he was pressing Gav - he might have been able to press Gav better or more successfully with more sleep, but I think pressing him was what he felt he really wanted to do most of all, because he's been saying so for over a month.

FWIW, Krill sent a PM today asking for a sub. Xenu also hit the nail on the head when he said Krill was giving up on sleep to play civ, which turns out to not be so good for a doctor. frown

Agreed, agreed, agreed. I was laughing IRL when Krill was complaining on his stream about Gavagai not wanting to compromise or share... lol
