Losing metal so early really hurt our chances of defending plus whipping axes just prior to having our iron cut off didn't help much either (should have been spears instead). Chalk that up partly to the screwy turn split mechanic. I think lack of map awareness really was what did us in though. I mean it's not like there has never been naval invasions before. If we would have had a sentry galley or two in place (to see the invasion coming), we would have had more than one turn to emergency whip. Not sure it would have changed the outcome (we really were lacking in military) but I assure you the defense would have been better. Still, being at the top of the scoreboard means zero if you don't have enough military to stay there. Good learning experience and the game was immensely enjoyable.
