Ah, so that was it. Simply wanted to keep better company, eh?
Kyan Wrote:Novice- as the first lurker to post in our thread, i think you deserve some sort of reward. Maybe if you ask TT nicely, he might name our warrior in your honour
Or we'll find some other means to sound our appreciation.
Hmm, Novice the Warrior. And if he lives long enough to get 5 XP, we rename him Veteran! Heh. Oh, I am so clever . . . .
Since TT mentioned it, I can generally win on Monarch, if my attention span lasts through a whole game, but I really struggle on Emperor and above, on the few games I've played at that level. All I can really bring to the table there, which I mentioned before, but I suppose I should repeat: Don't underestimate the Barbarians! While they won't come (or shouldn't come) nearly as early or in as great a number as on Immortal or Deity, please, please, please do not send Workers or Settler outside of our cultural borders without escorts or VERY well-placed spotters.
Likewise, we will want to get something better than Warriors sooner rather than later, hence my tech plan. If we're very lucky, we find Copper. If not, we can get Bowmen.
While I'm thinking of it, and I'm sure you guys know this already, but keep to defensive terrain as much as possible while scouting. Forested Hill > Forest > Hill > Flatland. If you can manage to get a river between you and an enemy, all the better.
I consider myself to be somewhat competent at military tactics in Civ, and decent at strategy, though I suppose I should mention that my ability to plan out a coherent technology strategy breaks down after the Worker techs are out of the way. It looks like we shouldn't need Fishing any time soon, although Sailing could potentially be useful for river trade. Not a high priority, anyway.
Personally, I think that Pottery and Writing should be fairly high priority once we have something to defend ourselves with. Cottages + Granaries (very important!) and then our cheap Libraries and Philosophically enhanced Scientist Specialists. Yes, they ponder deeply. Deep Ponder.
As a rule of thumb, we should probably have no fewer Workers than we have cities, though more if we can afford to. There's almost always something to do.
Oh, and I suppose might as well road the sheep . . . . Hmm.
No, actually, I'll go with my first idea:
Worker completes: Move to riverside grassland, start farm. Then HIT THE CANCEL ACTIONS BUTTON. 1 turn will still be invested in the farm. Repeat until Animal Husbandry is teched, so we can get to the Pasture immediately (more valuable than grassland farm).
Once the Pasture is done, finish the Farm off (more valuable than road). Then build roads if Mining is not yet researched . . . .
That's the best plan, in my opinion.
