Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Isabella of Carthage, starring Ellimist, SleepingMoogle, and Nicolae

Okay, I played the turn. The big news is that we confirm that we are indeed on a small island. We have room for only 2-4 cities. I'm thinking our next technology should be sailing(12 turns). I'm not sure whether we should just get it next or stick with bronze working(14 turns) next.

We also didn't have a password set. I changed it to the same as our email password.

Gold sounds like a definite place for a second city yes. Can you post a screenshot of the island next turn so that we can consider dotmaps and the like?

Sailing or BW next? Definitely a WB next.

BW next. We can delay galleys for a bit, we're not going to be able to afford them, best to get the developmental techs and explore with workboats for now.

Without galleys, how are we going to get settlers over to the mainland? I'd prefer to put only 1-2 more cities on the island early on.

Sailing will also give us access to moai statues in the capital, though we'll probably use chopping/whipping to finish them.

True, but how do we expect to build 60H galleys without slavery or chops? Plus, Sailing doesn't help our immediate priority, which is to settle the gold site. We can probably delay the wheel and pottery for a bit, research off the gold, but I'd like to get some granaries down asap as well.

You're right, production is the priority. Should we try to settle the gold city on flatland so that we can fit more mines in?

Nah, I think it's fine as is, otherwise we'd need a border pop for the gold.

In fact I'd be tempted to go Mysticism-religion after BW, so that our 2nd city will be holy and we won't need a monument. I'll need to think about it a bit though, whether or not we'll be more commerce or production starved, plus our expansion rate is less limited by food and more limited by galley logistics.

Other things to note, use the warrior to check the corners of the island, and also check whether or not we have vassal states. I'm pretty sure it's a no, so no colonial maintenance, but we'll definitely want to move the capital at some point to a more central location.

Feel free to play around with my sim I posted earlier, update it to the terrain we have, and see what decisions feel right.

Agreed on that city marker since it places both a Food and the Gold resource in the inner ring. We could consider placing a third city at the SW corner before moving to the mainland? In all likelyhood, we're still scouting potential locations by the time it makes sense to place city 3. And we can eventually place a filler city at the NE corner to top things off.

About techs, considering the island is rather small, we cannot delay Sailing for too long, but I do like the idea of getting a religion as well. Who would be our most likely competition for that? Kuro has a creative leader, so that seems unlikely, but how about the others? I am fairly certain NH will want to go the Oracle -> MC route, and Jkaen starts with Mysticism right?

I'd prefer Poly, as that would open up Mono later on for spiritual shenanigans. I'd say get 2 workboats scouting in opposite directions along the coastline, and one galley for now (maybe more as logistics load increases).

I think the plan for now should be Ag-BW, I should have time on the weekend to sim out if Myst-Poly-Sailing is a viable choice.
