Whosit Clowns Around in EitB PBEM XXVI [SPOILERS!]

Yeah, yeah, I figured. Ha. I'll just have to figure out what a good opening set of techs are.

I am also pretty sure that I want to build sufficient Warriors to defend my city and territory. I have heard that standard expand times are later than in BtS, though I hope that by the time the best farmable land is tilled to start a Settler. We'll see.

Oh, question: I believe that Scouts still provide better benefits from huts (if they are in this), but do they provide any better results from lairs, or dungeons, or what have you?

I do not think so.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

This, with Agri already, you'll deffo have enough time to research something else (Calender maybe). SIP gives you 6 farmable tiles from those visible.

Oh, right, Calendar for those Incense. That would just be a commerce boost at this point, correct? Incense in EitB only give happy with temples if I recall correctly. Still, with a bunch of farms I could afford to work those tiles and some fast cash wouldn't do no harm! Then we can hire Blingy the Clown.

Yes, but a big boost. Incense plantations are worth something like 7 commerce.

I am pretty sure I read some of those games where Warrior first was deemed the "right" choice! But yeah, yeah. Calendar first is nice, especially since it opens up Festivals for whenever I want. I'm still not very good at judging FfH/EitB starts. This one seems ok, but certainly works with the Belseraphs pretty well from what I'm hearing.

'Course, I'll have to get them Ancient Chants so I can get Education and... CoL from that? I also forget which tech gives me Agrarianism, but I'll be getting that, too, of course.

Would getting Festivals real early be beneficial? Maybe if I'm still Creative for the cheaper Carnivals? (It'd be my luck if the traits changed right as that tech finished.) I don't know if early Freaks and Carnivals are worth it or not.

Warrior first is sometimes correct. For instance, if the Illians are in the game and their worldspell isn't banned.

Or if the Doviello are and the map isn't very big.

Worker first is better overall, but it does depend on the situation.
