Got Shwegadon Paya,as expected. BaII is now researching Guilds due in 2 turns.  This is bad for us. He could be planning to attack someone.His target AFAIK is me or Zanth,being his western and eastern neighbours. Zanth is highly unlikely because he's got Engineering,Knights attacking Pikes in cities with potentially walls and castles is just suicide. So I think BaII just went "We have enough on our hands" on us. How soon can he attack? He could attack us in ~5 turns,if he uses his golden age to build up.Unlikely since he doesn't currently have Construction(he could 1-turn it after Guilds) and hence no Engineering. So he won't have siege and the extra road movement to move his units for a short while. He could attack us in ~10 turns. I think this is the much more likely scenario. If he can get 30 Knights,plus siege,I'm not sure how I can stop that. Good thing is that he pretty much have to build an army from scratch,since his power rating is very low at the moment. Well at least we have Feudalism now,so I've started to build longbows in my cities.Front cities will have to think about getting walls. Coastal cities are a big problem though,I have so many of them and currently our navy consist of one(!) lone galley. I'm still gonna go for Civil Service to get Maces and do the golden age thing to help me build up. After that we go Engineering or Guilds then the other.Then probably Gunpowder,because by then flugauto(replaced by Mardoc recently,how good of a player is he?) will possibly have access to Janissaries,and the only way we can deal with that is with Pinch knights.It would be a problem if he decided to pile on. Will I get any help from the war?I don't Zanth would attack BaII,why attack BaII when he can attack Nakor or Slowcheetah?Both players are pretty backward in tech,although Slowcheetah does have a pretty big stack of horse archers. But that's not gonna do any good against Cuirassiers which Zanth can get to in 10-15 turns(he just got Guilds this turn). Flugauto?Nah,he hates us and he doesn't border BaII AFAIK,he is more like an enemy than an ally(he got Engineering recently,for defense?). Yuri?He won't help me but I don't think he will attack me either. He pretty much have no real military techs at the moment his best units at the moment are axes if I'm not mistaken. I think I've played this badly,I knew the possibility of an attack is there,but I saw BaII researching Music earlier and got complacent. So I took a gamble and decide to go for a wonder and economic techs. This is a big mistake and I deserve to lose because of it,maybe I'm just not cut our for multiplayer at this game. I hope I'm just overreacting here,and he is not planning an attack. 
General MP tips, nothing specific to this game:
Don't despair panic, if someone takes the fight to you just fight back as hard as you can and make your death glorious difficult. If you get attacked you can convert population into units very quickly if you have to. Don't spare the whip hand if it comes to it.  Oh, and don't forget your towel. You're going to want that towel. It shows you really have things together if you've made it all this way and still have your towel. You're not far from Engineering from memory, so a knight attack won't be too scary if you can get pikes online in a timely manner. If you expect an attack, I'd say to get Engineering ahead of Civil Service. Pikes are a much better defense against knights than macemen, so get them online ASAP. Particularly when the BaII border city is a rather good production city containing Moai.

Foreign news first,Catwalk lands the Taj Mahal. Well he will just keep on running the farmer's gambit thing for the next few turns at least. Since Jowy can't harrass him because they war-peaced 2 turns ago: *insert a lame joke involving cats and NAP here* Zanth gets Paper so I asked for a map trade: Looks like he's heading towards Lib.Who will win?Catwalk or Zanth?Don't think anyone else can beat those two. Found BaII's capital,pretty nice huh? Two-hammer city center tile,2 food sources and grasshill gold that doesn't exist in a normal map script(maybe it was popped?). Not sure why it's only size 12,should be at least size 15 around 20 turns ago. Note the marked tile,if we can get a two-move stack we can move there and we might be able to capture/raze his capital. Azza you pink dotted him so hard  .Note the two horse archers he's sending to his border city,that's definitely an aggressive move imo.His power still haven't spiked,and he's in a golden age and can't whip.I think I still have time... I'm going to go Civil Service first,we are almost there and Bureaucracy will let us research everything faster. Also the thing is pikes don't do any good against his maces that he can also build. I think I've got time until BaII attacks. Now I could be wrong and you can tell me "I told you so" later. But since you're already halfway to CS, probably better to finish that. Just hope that the extra couple of turns of not building pikes doesn't come back to bite you.

 Our Great Engineer is born. A lot of people are in a golden age right now including both of my close neighbours. You can also see in this screenshot that BaII is researching Banking. I don't understand this at all,is there a grand plan I'm not seeing here or is he just smoking some really good weed?So maybe I was wrong about him attacking?If he was to plan an attack surely he would go Construction->Engineering right? Fuck it, next turn we start the golden age and go Rep/Bureaucracy/Caste/Pacifism,if BaII does something we can swap back to slavery in 5. Oh and we met 2metra this turn,the last of the AIs. |
