Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS!] Pericles of Babylon. Kyan, Twinkletoes, Whosit.

We do have rice connected, but i am currently trading it for horses- hence building as many horse type units as we can whilst we have them. Chariots will be a great mobile defence vs barb axemen.

Currency landed. Sent to allies. Got Code of Laws from Krill.

We're now joint third in score smile

What year is it In-game? MThis many human teams working together seems to have created a pretty phenominal(sp?) tech rate.

Based on last turn's screen shots, I'd say that it's just past 600 BC.

Yeah. In RB2, I'm sure most of us were still mucking about with the second tier techs at this point. Most of us.

Checked in. Be glad that I did. smile

Got some cash from Cyneheard (100 gold). Dunno what that was about, but I took it.

Only real smoke I saw was the Worker build in Numbers. Why are you doing that to our poor, cow-fed city? It is working on a library. We want the Great Library there, remember? That means we need a regular one, first. It'll build in 7 turns, so it needs to be whipped on Turn 98, before all the chops go off.

Glad to see the Barb down south suicided like I thought. The two up north . . . not so much. You can attack with the Chariot, but check the odds. Even with the bonus to attack, that Axe has forest cover (5 = 7.5). We'd only have slightly better than even odds. You could empty Numbers to draw the barbs in (move both defenders 1SW, if I remember correctly, so they can use the road to get back next turn).

Remember to check Exodus next turn. Should work the (still unmined) forest plains hill.

Leviticus . . . not sure that I'd have it building a Bowman, but shields are already invested. I'd hire a Scientist next turn since we have no other improved tiles at the moment. Personally, I'd put the Bowman on hold and build another Worker while the city still has such a massive Food bonus. Maybe get that grassland hill mined soon. Can't remember what the Worker down there is assigned to do for The Plan.

Forge in Genesis is good. 12 hammers base, so perfect for +3 hammers. Garden next, right? Not a useless UB at all. lol

See? At least I'm contributing. Never thought I'd be the micro-management guy, though.

Ok, scenario:

We have a NAP with India including OB.

My axeman moves right at start of turn into Karaoke Tuesday, a size 6 Indian city.

The city is guarded only by 1 warrior. However, there is a barbarian axeman on the next tile ready to attack it!

Sooooo logs in and will have seen my axeman in the city- i have no idea if he remembers where it was last turn. This is key because i was on a roaded tile, meaning i have 1 movement point remaining.

India may not know i have movement remaining.

----------

The Question:

What to do?

Do i contact India and offer to sell my axeman? They only have 2 gold so that's out.

I could offer to either loan or sell my axeman for cash later on.

Or... (my personal favourite), i could leave the axeman there for ages. With moments left on turn i move my axeman out of city in opposite direction of the barbarian. If they've already whipped, i'll leave him there for good graces with India (maybe send an email showing how i chose to leave him there and defend as a gesture of good will). If they DIDNT whip as they were relying on my unit- their city gets burned by the barbs.

Lurkers- whilst this is devious i can't see how it would break the NAP. My dealings with India so far mean we're not friends anyway and likely never will be (despite byz and maya hoping otherwise) so no real loss there. I'm firmly in the Krill camp now. Would you see this as shady or anything like that?

I don't want to play in bad spirit but then why should a unit i pay maintenance for defend their city, a NAP doesn't mean i have to guard them too?

Imo that's pretty shady, and could quite easily be considered as breaking the NAP if worded in a particular way.

However, if you have not explicitly promised to defend their city and there is no form of mutual-protection agreement in the NAP, I would personally say that the NAP is not invalidated by this as you haven't broken anything agreed.

Its up to you guys what to do, but if you decide to screw India be prepared and tread very very carefully, you could gain a bad reputation if you are not wise.

Anyway, you have to hope India isn't last to end turn otherwise you can't do it.

My personal opinion is to be honourable but I do see the huge advantage being shady gives. If they whip, it might be worth throwing the axe at it and stealing the XP if the odds are favourable.

Could you dial them up with a Gold per turn deal to pay for your maintenace? Unless I'm mistaken they should be able to set their research slider back to open up gold no?

I don't think its shady, they had to have a contingency plan in place in case you never moved into the city at all. If they don't ask you if your axeman is still going to be in place at the end of turn they are kind of placing the defense of that city on some pretty shaky ground to start with. A NAP is a long ways from a MDP.

Basically, if they're not Friends of ours, they don't deserve our charity. However, make sure that our own cities are secure, since they may attempt to retaliate if the city burns. If we go this route, it's probably better not to mail them about it.

Also, I think it's funny that the low end of my scale starts with "Lots." lol
