Yeah, the slider can be optimized further it seems, it's just a pain since you need to sim a bunch of turns ahead to see what works.
I hurried south with those workers because I wanted to get WIFOM's corn on-line ASAP. But I guess that isn't really crucial, anyway. Maybe just work the gold for one more turn before switching to the corn. BM is doing fine working one scientist, though. Don't really see that as a big deal.
Another option would be to complete the cottage in between HN/Bitter before heading south, since those cities are really strapped for good tiles at the end of this run, and all the workers are then miles away.
If I do another run I'll try out some of those ideas.
I see BM as a cottage city so growing cottages there makes more sense than running Scientists. Bitter and HN have lots of grassland that potentially could be cottage cities, but considering our focus on Pyramids I rather consider them specialist cities and only utilise cottages if there aren't enough specialist slots or we need tiles to work while growing.
Ok, I completed a run with 40% science on T72, and 100% science on all subsequent turns. I also built more cottages in the north before heading south. BM got one riverside grass cottage + a nonriver plains cottage, and worked no scientists. I also completed the cottage between HN and Bitter before moving on, which is useful. The capital got a grass river cottage, and I built one cottage for WIFOM, but neither of these are actually being worked, so those are really just passing time / pit stops.
Anyway, the tradeoff is that WIFOM ends up with less food in the box on T79, because it spent more turns working the gold and I never actually camped the deer. Given that the extra cottage for BM isn't riverside, I don't really think this is a clear improvement. The slider adjustment is worthwhile either way, though. In short, when we get to T72, we should verify exactly how much science to run on that turn.
No time to write it up, but if you think this sounds better, you can complete the cottage between HN and Bitter on T68. With further optimization, it's probably possible to squeeze in another riverside cottage for BM rather than the plains cottage, but no promises.
