[Spoilers] Defining the phrase "€˜Hung Like a Horse"€™: Pb & the Kuriotates

Darrell
Knew that would elicit a comment out of you. lol

From wikipedia:
Quote:On 29 June 1950, at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the United States defeated England 1–0 in a group match. In recent years, the event has been named the "Miracle on Grass"
Quote:In England, newspapers at the time were generally small, and only had a single page devoted to sports. Because the English cricket team happened to suffer their first-ever defeat to the West Indies the very same day, that was the major story in most publications. However, in publications that did report the World Cup match, so unexpected was the result that it was presumed that the 1-0 scoreline was a typing error and so it was reported that England had won on a scoreline of 10-0 or 10–1
Quote:Quotes at the time:

* Wilf Mannion: "Bloody ridiculous. Can't we play them again tomorrow?"
* Harry Keough (USA defender): "Boy, I feel sorry for these bastards. How are they ever going to live down the fact we beat them?

William Hill currently giving the best return on a USA win.

England 4/9
Draw 16/5
USA 13/2

To be fair, we're playing piss poor and USA could easily get a draw.

Which wouldn't be THAT much of a shock. It's not like USA are totally incapable, they did beat Spain recently which is the only game Spain lost in like forever.

Yeah don't get me started on England choking miserably.

Particularly don't get me started on Emile I-injure-my-own-teamates Heskey.

As for Spain, they're perennial underachievers. Their team always looks amazing on paper, and yet always falls. Be nice to see them perform.

I'm not expecting any miracles from our team, but if they can't qualify first from this group then well... <insert something drastic here>.

Turn 11:

Moved Vanilla Ice back to the forested river bend.
Scrambled Defense is now 1N of Kwythellar.

Nothing else, so here's an overview shot.

Those two events are more closely related than you think...

Was referring to the World Cup though, don't think Spain have ever got past the quarter finals.

Edit: If anyone likes doing the Fantasy Football stuff, I can recommend the Fifa one:

No referral links for me or anything, free signup, could win a prize, but most of all a good laugh. smile

I'm always so torn during the Cup. I'm originally from Spain but have lived almost my entire life in the US...

Do I root for the US and get excited when they lose in the round of 16?
Or do I root for Spain, who usually look like they could win, and be disappointed when they also inevitably lose in the knockout stages?

I think the fact that I call it soccer shows my loyalty... U.S.A.!

How many turns of stasis left? I suppose we could get the thread back on Civ track when there's something to talk about.

Heh, I was going to put it in the previous post, but I'll put it here.

I just realised. The two qualifiers from Spain's group go on to play the qualifiers from Group H.

That's the group with Brazil and Portugal in it.

Oh dear. frown

10 turns left.

My current fear is that this Stasis doesn't count as actual anarchy, and I start getting hammer rot on the 30/50 hammers invested so far in the worker.
Will be seriously unhappy if so.

Hopefully this Saturday blitz will get the game moving again.
