Then watch as they completely wipe us Noobs out?

Hey Mackoti you are a bit late, we were just about to close sign ups, as we have just about enough players as it is.
Perhaps you could convince one of the players to let you team up with one of them, like Kyan and Twinkletoes are doing.
You can team up with me if you like, i don't mind. If you'd prefer another player, just ask them.

Another option could be to run two games. It's starting to look like there is enough interest to fill out two rosters.

I don't mind who or how.
I'll do it if no one else will, but i'll be obligated to let everyone have the best civs first, then see if any of my choices are left.
As for the other choices, if people suggest settings and what not i'll put it in the first post so you can all vote.
Edit: If we have excess Veterans there are a few options:
A) they double up
B) They drift from thread to thread offering advice
C) Set up their own "Tutorial Thread", seperate from the Lurker thread, to explain FfH2 concepts as we go along (would the players be allowed in this? you choose.). they could also collate the info from previous Pbem's into one thread if they like.
D) Other (please specify)
Try using some of these to vote on/provide information for,
Game Options:
Map Types:
Same as CivIV with the two additional below
Erebus = A Very Lore heavy map, includes lore starts for individual civs and fantasy like maps that can have lone islands, locked in landmasses via mountains with choke point passes between nations.
Erebus Continent = A milder version of the above. Like Pangea it has one major landmass and mixes fantasy like extra's into it's makeup.
Extra Features:
No TechTrading/Brokering
Raging Barbarians = Extra Barbarians
Animal World = Extra Animals
All/some/no Unique Features = FFH2 has special features called dungeons that can spawn monsters and be explored to destory and find extra treasure or danger. The Unquie Features can be like this but more powerful or more powerful resources.
Difficulty = ?Noble?
World Wrap
Archeon (the red dragon) On/off = This Dragon takes over a barbarian city mid game and makes it nigh untouchable while pumping out Archmages and Warriors
Duin (Master Werewolf) on/off = The Origin of the werewolf curse, Has to be built but if left on this unit can end up in anyones hands and with a little work create an army of wolfmen
Orthus (Orc Barbarian Hero) on/off = A powerful barbarian that spawns early on, If defeated the victor gains the orcs axe equipment
Time Zones for players:
I have no idea how to set up a map but I can offer to handle the Civ choices separately if people are wanting to figure out who they will be playing quickly. If players don't want a ded-lurker knowing their choices I can back out of that bit.

So a Apprentices & Veteran Game? Or just start up yet another new game (they do pile up) If the former then would it use the same map or civs or something?

You could organise a NOOB ALLIANCE! That could be amusing... Veteran comes in, unknowing, all ready to kick some ass and then...

'course if you prefer someone else...
Whoops, I seem to have missed this! I thinking you teaming up with Mackoti is great, since he'll be able to help you out with the civ specific mechanics (eg Worker Management).
As for the Veteran Lurkers basically telling the player what he needs to do, that's not what I had in mind.

My offer still stands, we don't have a 'veteran' yet, so you're free to join us, provided Mackoti doesn't have any objections.

I was thinking two Apprentice games. The newcomers to FFH would learn more that way than having to wait until both game finish to lurk the Vets.

I like the idea of two games, though from my understanding, we'd need at least 5 players per to make it work in any way that doesn't heavily favor the rush civs. Regardless, I'd like to see settings in some format like this:
Map: Erebus Continent, edited for balance but otherwise untouched. Namely, nothing too cute, none of us are ready for that kind of variant play just yet, that's the whole point.
Extras:
Normal Barbs
NTT
All Unique Features
x-y wrap
Monarch Difficulty? [From my understanding of FFH2, anything less than this will produce really weak barbs]
Acheron I would say either off or pre-placed, but Duin and Orthus are fine IMO. Duin is pretty broken from what I read but requires an expensive tech, and Orthus is part of the fun.
Mostly I think we should be looking for a flavorful game that has as much of the normal FFH2 experience as possible, without being so hard that we get a FFH2PBEM4 situation, which none of us are experienced enough to handle just yet.
Beyond that, I'd just like to see us get going as quick as possible, before people lose interest. I've seen that happen with countless games before, so that's my #1 would like to avoid. Either 2 unique games with ~5 players or 1 game with 6 and some teammates, but either way, we should be aiming to have civ picks and a map thread before the week is out, or we'll start losing steam.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
