[Spoilers] RFS-81 - Anubis? More like A-noob-is!

Damn alright . Immediate concern is that barb scout is no longer blocked. It's tempting to try to kill it or go clear camp, but if you lose a settler to barbs I think you have to retire your RB account in shame and start again under a new name. So, yes, I think you're right to cover the settler.

The real problem is that I thinkl you're committed to a full research of FT now. With a cultural CS to draw on that's not too bad.

The RNG does not like the people I'm ded-lurking this week. Sorry.

Turn 20: Settler is finished. Dammit, suboptimal do you have to stand in my way like that? I bet he's regretting that DoF now lol

Beta Colony builds a slinger and switches to higher food production to regrow the lost pop point.

No screenshots because nothing much happened. The settler is safely linked with the warrior now. Rho21 and Suboptimal have 3 pop now, and rho21 is starting to pull ahead in techs.

Hey, Commodore was still able to show his face around here after it happened to him!

Although now I'm feeling an urge to tease him about it again lol

Alright, the settler is in place an can found next turn! jive

Unfortunately, suboptimal has declared war on Vilnius. Even if we didn't have a DoF, I don't think it would be feasible to do anything about that at this point. With only a single Eagle Warrior in the area at the moment, I hope I'll still reap some free culture for a while.

C&D says that rho21 has finished a settler.

Hopefully he's planning to farm Vilnius for builders rather than kill it just yet - or even just do a one-off grab. He seemed to approach more from the west, didn't he? That makes it unlikely he's planning to take and hold the city - a spite raze would be bad though.

Existing settling plan doesn't help in boosting Wheel unfortunately. Early chariot archers would be great for safer scouting and being able to intervene if suboptimal does start to look to aggressive.

Turn 23:

I've founded the second city and assigned the citizen to the marsh tile. Getting some faster city growth is better than putting unboosted production into a builder there, I think. With pottery finished, I research Masonry next. I don't think that I'll get the boost in time, so I'm planning to switch to something else when it's half full. Animal Husbandry is just spectacularly useless on my start. Wheel would also be nice, but there's no chance that I get the boost anytime soon, as shallow_thought said.

Off in the corner, you can see suboptimal's Eagle Warrior with a captured builder. Looking at his health, he probably won't capture Vilnius very soon.

Turn 24:

Nothing much happened. Supoptimal is out of my vision range. Japper's score made a jump to 19, he must have founded a new city. Probably the settler build finished on the same turn as pop growth, so I didn't notice. Or I just wasn't paying enough attention.

I moved my warrior towards the barb camp. He can start attacking in turn 27. There are two decisions to make for the next turn:

The slinger is going to be finished next turn. Should I move him up to the barb camp too, so that he hopefully can get in a killing blow for the archery boost? Or should I scout the area around Beta Colony? I'm especially curious if the mountain is part of a larger chain, which will be important for planning district placements.

Beta Colony is going to grow next turn and producing a builder next. Should I go for a high-food or high-production assignment? I'm leaning towards production because I should easily be able to grow Barrayar to size 3 in time for the EE boost.

I really need to find more time to do actual analysis for this game. My gut says that production is good: you're behind a little on units and builder actions.

I'm less certain about the slinger. They don't make good long range scouts, but you do need visibility of the local terrain. Can that be sensibly delayed for a while? Builder->warrior maybe?

I didn't mean to use the slinger as a scout, I just wanted to get a fuller picture of the immediate vicinity. But I agree that going builder->warrior and then using the warrior to explore is the way to go. I'll send the slinger to fight barbs, too.
