[NO PLAYERS] Lurking and Mapmaking PB52

(July 15th, 2020, 20:13)Mr. Cairo Wrote: However, imagine, if you will, a war between Pindicator and SD. Pind continues to build his UU Numidian Cavalry. Then all of a sudden a dozen Impi appear on his border. They're a so much cheaper than most 2-movers, and can easily defend themselves against his Numids. With AGG and Ikhandas I can promote them to Cover to help take out Archers in cities. And they don't appear as much as other units would on the power graph, so there's be no real warning. I could probably do quite a lot of damage.

lol I find myself getting frustrated on Pindicator's behalf. He got 4 neighbors, one of whom declared vendetta to the death essentially the moment they met, another who only borders Pindicator and therefore will naturally expand into him, another who is sending a stack of impis because the previous two neighbors seem to provide an opening, and the fourth neighbor tells us that because of all the above he's getting land that otherwise would have been Pindi's. lol Damn if I ain't rooting for the monkey in the middle.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.

Anyone else confused by Pindicator's refusal to retake Coos at once? I'd think the culture bomb alone would make it his preferred defensive point.

I believe Pindi said he tried to get cute with respect to flanking maneuvers, outsmarted himself, and missed his opportunity to do that before Construction.

He definitely could have done it on T103, but he tried to set up the home run instead of taking the sure thing. It's a lot worse because Superdeath is going to bail the minute he sees catapults, meaning he misses his chance to wipe his stack.

Also, there's no way it was worth settling that fur city, right? 20gpt for 1 happy when none of his cities are actively unhappy?

don't quite understand the reporting on the mjmd/jowy/at/charriu front - did AT and jowy effectively declare a MPP against charriu after jowy misinterpreted his intentions?

Looks like it's clearer now. It's still hard to take these skirmishes with 5 units apiece seriously when we just witnessed the pindicator/superdeath fight. Charriu would be way better off invading Mjmd, but I get the sense both he and AT are concerned about Jowy backdooring them. I think they ought to take the risk though, because the game is slipping away otherwise.

on me. Pindicator and SD are locked in war - I think Jowy is going to win. I think he's going to run over either me or Charriu - unless one of us can speed bump him long enough for someone else to catch up, he's going to roll over the others with knights.

I'd love to see a pindicator vs. Jowy showdown... Although if pindi really rolls over superdeath, it might be an early GG.

I also think Cairo might be better served by scouting AT and seeing whether he can pick up his lands during the MJMD war. That would be a cheap conquest that could really propel him into contender status.

Right now, I don't see Charriu having much of a gameplan, and MJMD is playing a builder gambit T100+ against multiple dangerous neighbours.

I also don't understand why Jowy didn't settle the wheat earlier, it is a 5/1 tile. If he just settles the rest of his land and puts in some worker turns he'll really come out forward. The coastal cities would also provide a chance to strike navally at Charriu?

Should this map have been a bit smaller? I think this map would've been better for 9 people? Or perhaps it's just that early elimination and misplays by gira (as well as me not moving his start closer to MJMD) have led to this huge map imbalance.

I'd really like to hear any lurker thoughts about the map, especially because I found mapmaking a really interesting thing to do, but feel I didn't really perform my role to expectations.

I enjoyed this way too much. Also, Jowy and AT seem to have both convinced themselves that the other is coming after them, and it's turned into a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And now Jowy's pillaging roads in neutral land between AT's cities. That really does not help to secure the peace.
