[SPOILERS] FFH II PBEM I Lurker Discussion Thread- No Players Allowed!

Thanks heaps T-Hawk. That would fit with comments I've read about great general super medics. When Spulla were sieging Athlete's capital in RBPB2 they mentioned that all the damage done by his catapults attacking out would be healed up by their turn anyway.

On a slightly different note, how easy is it to jump into the games xml code? I was interested in improving the ffh2 wiki because it is consistently proving to be inadequate or wrong and I want to double check stuff and potentially copy spell descriptions from the source.

Sounds like T-Hawk understands it better than me, so go with what he said.

Personally I've found it surprisingly easy to dive into the xml, although I'm a programmer by trade. Easier than trying to find up to date info on the net anyway.

I think the manual is a better resource to start from than the wiki in terms of being nearly complete and up to date, except I'm not sure there's an easy way to edit it.

Mostly it depends what you're looking for though, some things will be there clear as day, but others are quite hard to find. I was trying to work out whether adept xp scales with game speed for example, and it was very easy to find the numbers for the xp rates, but I couldn't for the life of me find the bit that actually applied those rates.

On that note...
Any chance you found evidence that passive XP gain scales with the number of units with the Channeling I/II/III promotions under the player's control, as Selrahc suggested in his thread? It's just that I've never heard it mentioned anywhere else - the manual, the wiki, the forums - so I assumed Selrahc must have picked it up straight from the source.

I don't know where he got that from, and I don't think it's actually true, although it's hard to know for sure. It's a fact of game mechanics so we can always express our doubt and ask him where he got it from, without breaking the lurker code.

The code I found simply gave me the values 20, 30, and 40 for the exp gain chance for channelling 1, 2 and 3 (I *think* those numbers are added together, so 90% total for an archmage who has all three), along with an extra 20 for potent and 10 for somethingorother else that I can't remember. Those numbers suggest it's fixed, but as I said I never found the code that actually applied that value to give the unit more xp.

Did Bob not bring any Workers?

Nope! Which is another reason why PB is running rings around him. Otherwise he could double road and more effectively hit the fort.

The main reason I could consider for not roading however is that it would make a full road right to Acaia, which could come back to bite him.

Bob really seems to believe what he wrote earlier in the thread. He expects to get vampires and steamroll everyone, he just isn't thinking hard enough about what manner of beasts he is fighting.

I find it amazing how easy PB manipulates Selrahc and how shortsighted Bob is in his diplomacy.

That's because how it's applied won't be in the XML. It'll be in the DLL or the python.

The XML is pretty easily understandable. Just start poking around in Mods\Fall from Heaven 2\Assets\XML and see what you find. I think most of the meat is in XML\Text\CIV4GameText_FFH2.xml .

And more to the point, in FFH's DLL or python rather than the standard game. Is the FFH DLL source publicly available? It doesn't seem to be included in the installation.

I see Bob wants to peace with PB to go after Selrahc. Two things struck my mind:
1) I wonder if PB could make an onerous peace on Bob (is he that desperate) only for Bob to find PB attacking him in the belly on declaration.
2) Is Bob that oblivious to the cooperation between the two (he's seen the Ice gifts, and Dracula) that he thinks there is nothing deeper than some resource exchanges and gifting going on. Personally I would be suspicious if two of my opponents were exchanging ice manas to each other on the eve of war. Surely he should be expecting something morer than just trading.
