I'm second guessing myself on tech. I wonder if it's best to go unlock markets or up the HBR line instead. Do I even want to revolt to GK?

First to two cities:

Still lagging in the demos:

But that should lift somewhat next turn. Most notable is second on food, despite being six food behind. Almost certainly number 1 is Auro, who has a size 7 (!) city - based on score and enchantment mana. He's really leveraging the boost from the mud golem impressively. I'm left wondering if he popped Calendar, as he had that early score bump and the food and size reflects an early agrarianism. Hard to know.

It also looks like everyone has Gold or similar resource available to them.

The hope is the fast third city starts boosting us. We want to be really ahead of our ARC colleagues.

Some slight reflection on civics has me happy with GK. With the gold it should boost our 0% tech a fair amount, and we'll want to mine some tiles eventually. After that it'll probably be Festivals (cheap FIN markets)-> Animal husbandry (city 4 north of the incense has only AH first ring, and I don't want to rush Fishing). From there we'll have to think about HBR, BW, Fishing->OO and Hunting.

Hunting can probably wait with wines, gold, and two calendar happy (assuming we can take the Silk). Fishing I'd rather not sink into, though OO could be nice for border pops and is less likely to be contested early (perhaps Mig, thinking about the eventual archmage and to give mid-game strength?). BW gives gems, but with no copper warriors is probably unnecessary for a long while. HBR would be good for borders bumping around that time and to give options for military adventures. It's unfortunate that griffons get boosts vs. mounted.

Much happening? I get the impression it's a small squall for turn pace this week.

Not really. I don't think anyone else has founded a second city, our third is fiveish turns away. Encountered a Ljolsofar scout in the centre (I'll post a photo of the centre when I get a next turn) which I'll have to be careful can't take my second city.

Lost another unit to the barbs on low odds. Sigh.

2nd settler out. Unfortunate rivers mean it will be another two turns before we settle it. Coldrain is already on three cities, a little worried. His demos (as EXP) also make me think he might be building a third settler. I'm trying to weigh between squeezing out a worker in the capital and growing it up to size 7 (currently 4, the smallest capital).

My demos are okay though, and hopefully will pull ahead of Thessa once maintenance bites and before the elven economy eats the world. Bing is still on one city. Haven't met Mig or Auro but pretty sure they have second cities.

Oh, any thoughts on if city 3 should go 1W? It means it doesn't need a border pop for the deer (or at all) but can't share the rice.

Tile-wise you give up the rice and a grasshill, to gain a grasshill and a fogged tile on the other side of the mountains. I guess it depends on how much that city would be allowed to take the rice, and if it invalidates any other planned city sites. The banana-gems on the coast seems safe either way, can't tell what's in the west.

The fogged tiles a mountain. It really comes down to how much I care about working the deer. Hunting might be early as we have resources. But probably the answer is to ignore popping the cities border because sharing the rice will almost certainly be valuable down the track, and just eat the missing tile.
