[PB22-SPOILERS] HAKFlakes...the cereal that will choke you until we win

So we've run into a Panther...highly likely we'll be losing our scout. frown

I've already gone ahead and given the scout Combat promotion...should I also give him the second Combat promo as well? This way it helps ensure we survive? I was really hoping to use both promos to get Woodsman II, but now that's not possible since I've already given it the Combat I. Probably should have waited and asked you your thoughts on both, but I was a little trigger happy.

Also, I can't believe plako's luck...but he's just gotten ANOTHER tech from a Hut. Bastage!!!

Tough call now that he has C1. I lean more towards wait and use the 2nd promo to heal after the attack. Then again if he dies I'll duh for giving that advice. We are behind a river, and I don't think the 2-move barbarian is smart enough to cross first and then attack.

The scout survived, albeit just barely. So I'm thinking giving it the Combat I did help. I'm not so sure we would have won without it. I'm sad that I can't get the scout immediately to Woodsman II for the quicker movement through the forests, but I gave it Woodsman I to start it healing (and for the defense). I moved it NE onto the forest hill, and it will heal the rest of the way there (4 turns). Then he'll be on the move again. I'm considering going NE-NE as the next movement, and then head back around to the NW after that to defog the area east of Cheerios.

Looks like 2metra is the first one to size 2, as his score went from 35 to 37 this turn. And Furungy got a tech.

Our farm is finished, so we'll grow in 2 turns.

We could send the warrior to defog that area east of the capital

Yeah, that is certainly an option. Especially to allow the scout to continue eastward to figure out where out neighbor that way is. Always good to start getting the known tech bonuses for research.

Gavagai has just met us, by reaching our borders. Looks like he came from the NE, so sadly that means if there were any huts that way he probably got them. Also looks like his scout defended against an animal as well, since it's moving around wounded.
Our scout is going to heal for the next few turns, and then continue exploring. I'm going to hold off or at least until after dinner tonight to finish he turn. I know your google doc talked about using the worker to make a road while we wait for BW to come in. I assume you meant on one of the forest hills?

I'll likely do so on the hill directly south of the capital. So if I don't hear from you, that's where I'll move this turn.

Additinally, Gavagai and either Adrien or plako grew to size 2 this turn. We grow to size 2 next turn. And Warrior in 3 turns, after which we'll start on the settler. I do plan to send the warrior over to clear that fog so we can decide where to send the settler.

I did not realize the game was moving this quickly or I would have done some additional simming. I didn' really consider which chops would be best long-term or where the road would go (preferably in the direction we will be putting a future city). My 30-second gut analysis says that 1S of Rice would be the best location go to and road. We will want a city 1NW or Furs at some point, and another road on Rice later would allow a 1-turn move of the settler onto that Jungle. I can't say more accurately without testing.

Yeah, the turns kinda went pretty quickly and I also sorta lost track of how close we were to finishing the farm and needing to make a decision on the roads/chops. I'm going out bowling with my wife shortly, so will wait until later tonight (or even tomorrow morning, since there will likely still be other people not having played by then...and even then it would still be within the timer...just the back end of it. So if we need more time to think, so be it.

I'm also now considering heading SE with the scout. If Gavagai came from the NE/E then he will have gotten any huts that were along that path. If I want to try to get some more huts, I need to choose a route away from where he came from. Since we've met him, I don't see any exact need right now to know exactly where his capital is. Getting huts before his scout can take them is more important, IMHO. Since if he goes around to the NW of our capital, he'd steal any huts from us that way...or if he goes south of our capital he'll steal any huts we might have in that direction. So, I'd rather go hut hunting than hunting for where his capital is and only finding stuff he's already seen. Though I guess if we find his capital, we can continue past it to take any huts he might have on the other side which this scout would not have been able to get to since he likely came directly at us with his scout.

I go to church Wednesday evenings, so I wasn't able to do any simming.

No biggie. I ended up choosing to road the forest south of the Rice. That will finish next turn. Then I think I should put one turn of roading into the rice tile. Then the next turn move onto one of the forest hills. Turn after that we would get BW and can chop that tile. When that's done, move onto the roaded forest to chop that one. Then finish the Rice road. About that time (this is where doing a sim will come into play) the settler should be near done from the two chops....and can walk along the road to the jungle tile. That may be our best bet, since we know that area is decent and we can get a trade route going to it super fast (especially as soon as we research Fishing). The spot to the NE with the Cows can be city #3.

Also, what do you think of using our warrior to kill Gavagai's scout if it's still near our city borders? Basically if he circles around our borders to continue NW of our city. I'd really rather not have him snagging any of our huts that might that way. I can't count the number of times someone has killed one of my scouts in the early game. Yeah, that would likely put a target on us by him for the future....but at least he's not plako, mackoti, or Commodore. I'd be more scared of one of those three. smile
