I was in Pitboss 24. The reason it failed wasn't Thoth popping 3 huts, but a mistake with the settings which required a game restart, and that immediately caused a discussion on the subject whether Thoth should keep the techs he popped. If I remember correctly. I don't think huts are a problem as such
I vote huts on. Abstain on events. Agree with the rest of the list

Well, huts might be a bit difficult, given that the current map lacks them.
Starts are finalized for your snake pick, but map ain't done until the review process is...and that isn't starting until we get a subforum...so might want to request a subforum?

I don't care enough about huts to want to reroll or re-edit the map, for what that's worth.

ok I can live without huts, definitely not worth adding them to the map

I'm ok with events, but I wouldn't want huts even if they were already present. PB24 died because some players (not just Thoth, though he benefited the most) popped results from techs over the course of the first several turns before we realized the settings were wrong. Most people wanted to restart, but most of the people who got positive results from huts didn't want to lose them, but the rest of us didn't want them to be granted them from the start, and it just crashed and burned. Admittedly, this is not likely to happen again (those of us who survived check the game settings the first turn now), but I can think of a couple of other situations where it could be an issue.
Just seems better to leave huts to SP games or random MP games.
Borsche, how strongly do you feel about events since you're the only one who seems to be really against them? I try not to force what I want down other people's throats, and my initial post said no events, so we can leave them off. Just want to get your thoughts.

An aside, but it seems like it'd have been nice if huts were coded to have roughly mirrored effects per player; a list of huts are rolled before the game, so that the first hut everyone gets is high gold, the second one is barbarians, third is a tech, etc. Still have to put the effort into finding them bit it'd be a bit more balanced for multi-player...

Aren't events bugged in RtR mod? Something about how they generate more often for some players compared to others?

By the way, guys, I'm not sure if you'd even want this considering this is supposed to be a casual game, but I figure I'll offer. I've been working on a map tool in my spare time, and one of the things it does is generate a "starting sim" savefile for each player that consists of your starting BFC and nothing else, surrounded by water. An AI is placed off in a corner, on a 1-tile island, so that the game doesn't automatically end. You can use this to plan out your first few dozen turns or what not... most players build these by hand, but this would save you the effort.
I'll let Grimace make the call, since he's organizing this, whether this is too much for a casual game.
