Watermill purchase at Lugdunum (notice construction research and wheat tile yields increased between screenshots as well)

The barb archer is being a pain, pillaging the sheep. I decided not to advance with my tamale warrior inside Rome in the above screenshot, thinking that it would continue moving in after pillaging, giving me time to heal up and allowing me to attack out of the safety of the city center. Instead it danced back out of my borders. The barb scout cooperated though and allowed my slinger to get the kill (much too late for the inspiration shakehead)

I’m starting to lag in science as my rivals ramp up the campuses in pursuit of Hypatia’s irresistible charm. I’m hoping that my focus on growth will pay dividends down the road. Veterancy policy to will be unlocked in about 8 turns and Harbors > Lighthouses will spring into existence throughout the empire. That in turn will allow me to build traders and also achieve the 40% discount on other district types.

Side note: I only earned 2 era score from the galley so someone else built a ship before I did.

Pyramids ETA to be confirmed next turn (hopefully still on schedule) as Ravenna grows onto another 1Icon_Food/5Icon_Production plains hill lumbermill. Those tiles are yummy-yummy-yummy!

T65: UI is showing that Pyramids timeline has slipped to EOT69 (5 turns) but we are on track to the exact cog with the Excel projection at 135/220 making 19Icon_Production/turn base with +15% modifier from Autocracy + amenities. Simple math suggests that we should still complete Pyramids as projected EOT68. I could chop Pyramids on T67 at the long-term cost of a lumbermill.

Oh, forgot to mention that I recruited Magnus with the Defensive Tactics governor title. Why? Because none of the other governors look particularly impactful and I have a chop scheduled soon 1W of Aquileia to clear space for the Roman Bath. That chop will help speed along the settler, in turn freeing up an economic policy slot. I'm planning to chop as soon as Pyramids grants my builder-in-the-area and extra charge.

I left a builder as bait for the barb archer. It is a 1-charge builder awaiting Pyramids bonus charge before continuing improvements. I will be able to re-capture before Pyramids completes so no loss and it would allow me to get in first strike on the archer. I'm finally putting together a task force to take out the southern barb camp ... now watch it erupt massively right as I prepare to conquer it lol

Found another natural wonder to the south with the galley. That looks at first glance like an island. Settler vision shows those tiles NW of the Piopiotahi red. Either there is another city state nearby, or that is actually connected to the mainland and those tiles are red because of Jerusalem proximity ... distance of 3 is acceptable across water.

Jerusalem is looking mighty tempting for my next expansion. The terrain is better than anything else I see, and it comes with a Holy Site, Monument + Granary (with light repairs), and a couple pop. I could set up another 5Icon_Gold adjacency harbor there as well. It's a no-brainer actually. And what triggered this thought is TBS of the Cree just declared war on Jerusalem. I think he pillaged a trader under his fortified warrior since there is a road-to-nowhere ending there. Cree power is rising as well, up over 100 in the last 5 turns. Diplomatically the Capture of Jerusalem would cause some tensions on both sides. My scout will hopefully determine how far away the Cree capital is and what prospects they have for expansion west of the inland sea. Legion would make short work of the city, especially if I can get there before they get spooked and build walls.

The barb archer took the bait and captured my builder. In turn I redlined it and it has nowhere to run. Pyramids is 3 turns out (I still maintain the UI lies, my math looks solid) so I'll recapture in plenty of time. One question I've been pondering is whether to hold off completing the two nearly-finished builders until Feudalism completes for the extra two (4 total) builder charges. The builder at Ostia is not immediately required. I have a 1-soon-to-be-2 charge builder which will be enough to keep that city working improved tiles. Cumae though is working all unimproved 2/2 tiles, which was OK when founded but I cringe now that Lumbermills are unlocked. I can send the 1-soon-to-be-2 charge builder from Aquileia over to Cumae in the interim which would probably be the right play.

T68: Pyramids is now showing completion in 1 (end of turn, right on schedule!) jive I went back to review the planning and we hit the right on the mark as project on T50, 18 turns in advance. Overall construction time of 17 turns. That seems like a long time (1/4th of the total game to date) but this is a great wonder of the world, after all! For comparison I started building Pyramids 3 turns earlier here but completed them 4 turns later than PBEM 11 since I built the in an established city plus a chop, instead of a newly founded city.

I don't know for 100% sure that I'm guaranteed Pyramids, or if one of the other players could still snag it out from under my nose. Does any lurker know the answer? I'd be very curious to know whether the other players see the notification that "Pyramids have been completed in a far away land" this coming turn T69 or next turn T70.

I know the answer but I'm not saying.

I have officially landed Pyramids. I’m being a little more liberal with improvements now, building 2 plantations at Ravenna’s bananas for temporary +1 housing relief and +4Icon_Gold. I also netted Crabs at Rome since that brought me to an even 4x 0.5 housing for relief there ... except I forgot that my Sheep is still pillaged banghead I should have repaired that several turns ago while the builder was dawdling waiting for Pyramids to complete. Now this will delay a lumbermill at Rome because I’ll have to repair the pasture before I use the last builder charge rant

Magnus establishes this turn in sync with Pyramids adding a builder charge jive and the settler for city #8 was chopped out, saving 5 turns and clearing the tile for a future Bath. I’m 3 turns from unlocking Veterency policy and I have 4 harbors planted and ready. Ill blow the Harbors out in an average of 5-6 turns, then will be able to plant discounted districts othe other types. Tentative plan is to immediately proceed with Lighthouse construction (6-8 turns) for the housing and trade routes. I’m keeping an eye on Cree military power though as our DOF winds down. I have 2 horsemen under construction, one completing next turn, and I’ll get Mercenaries right about the time DOF expires for half price Legion upgrades.

It looks like I’ll be too late to Jerusalem. I spotted a Cree horseman near Jerusalem.

We have gone from consistent 1T/day down to consistent 0.5T/day ... at least it’s consistent (almost 2 weeks of every-other-day). Sad though because there still isn’t much going on yet. I really think my proposed turn order would have been better with me after Archduke > Alhambram (in their morning window). As-is all four Europeans are squeezed into their evening slot and it gets stuck at Kaiser.

Jerusalem fell to Cree. That was a big oversight on my part, letting Cree get that for free. I considered trying to snipe at the end of the DOF (half dozen turns from now) but ultimately I need a strong Cree to confront Russia, not an angry Cree thorn in my side.
