Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] PB50: scooter's Big Cat Adventure

Kinda thought so. So to be clear, here's what I know. I have screenshots from every turn in my screenshots folder (some that didn't get posted probably), and I double checked.

On T59 I could see him complete Iron Working, and since then he's been saving gold on a variety of techs. I've seen him on Math, Aesthetics, and Alphabet. Could have sworn I saw Priesthood once too, but I don't see a screenshot of that. It's now T66, so he's seemingly saved gold for 6T (he hasn't played the current turn yet). The most plausible explanation is he's working on popping a scientist right now for an Academy, so he's saving gold because of that. This wouldn't necessarily shock me, and I did see his completion times change in a way that suggested he was getting > 1bpt a couple times, so this may very well be it. That's the innocent explanation. The only other explanation I can think of is he 1-turned Priesthood at some point because it was partially completed in the past, so 6T of saving is more like 5T.

If he's not doing that, then he's definitely messing with his tech display. For what it's worth, 1 turn of gold saving equates to like 10T of tech for me. I know his costs are likely a lot higher because he's got a few more cities, but I would expect 6T of saving gold to have netted him an absolute minimum of 120g, probably closer to 150g, and I'd think his gold loss at 100% tech can't be much higher than like -12gpt max, probably less. I'd just ask the lurkers to keep an eye on this if/when he reports, but I don't think it's quite yet worth confronting him because innocent explanations still remain.

I did just check, and I see a Library in his border holy city along with enough pop/food to run two scientists, so I'm going to guess this is what's going on for now.

It has been a few years since I've played a sequential PB but if I'm recalling correctly, it isn't possible to change anything once end turn has been pressed.

(easy for you to test after your next turn wink )

Pretty sure I'm able to. I definitely whipped a unit out of sequence once so I didn't forget, though of course production only happened at end of my turn. That said, I think I solved the mystery.

Turn 66

Cornflakes turned on research on this exact next turn, and first off, lol that spike. That said, the reason for this is not an Academy, but rather that he completed a Library in his capital at the end of his last turn. I believe he was saving his gold for that, because +25% is actually quite a lot right now with the capitals we have. That must be what was going on.

Settled Doc Atler and dropped off a worker. I need to grind out a Granary, Lighthouse, and Library, and then I'll be in business here.

Update whenever my next turn happens. Likely tomorrow.

Keep him. His existence will lead to a company building rockets later. Easy space victory for you. neenerneener

Nah, let him pass on and be an overrated inspiration for hipsters who have never gone father into STEM than Math 101.

Turn 72

Let's start with the bad news.

Academy incoming for Cornflakes in a turn or two. That's going to be worth quite a lot.

Now for the good news. I used Thomas Edison to complete the Pyramids. Iron Working comes in end of turn on the lightning fast date of T72.

Next turn Colossus comes in, so no revolt just yet. I'm hoping the culture burst will allow me to take the Peak and Oasis tiles back from Cornflakes, but we'll see about that.

You ever make a joke that you think is brilliant and it gets no reception?

Turn 73

Panic time?

Take a look at the ETA for Cornflakes Currency and contrast it to my research time via hover in the bottom-left corner. That's bad. I'm assuming this is slightly overstated, because he's sunk at least a turn into that (I guess?), and the 17T may not be calculating the required tech bonus(es) that I would have, but still. Library + Academy + IC routes + super capital will do that, I guess. Tech is turned back off - it was only on for this picture. I need my own Library in Joe Exotic first.

Things are getting uncomfortable. I do have some options, but not perfect options. Stay tuned.

I actually laughed about it and was a little bit disappointed that the didn't call all the way and rename the great person before using it.
