[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

Whats the ruling on units that moved before Azza's war dec?

I mean can we move them next turn before Azza plays next turn? Specifically I'm referring to our chariot we moved to Aenid. And the worker spear west of Beo.

My feeling is that he declared war and moved before you ended turn, he's got the first half, you the second.

It's a silly rule that would freeze units in place on the turn war is declared. But I'm no kind of authority on these matters.

Things we could have done to prevent our loss here (because I think we lose Beo and Aenid and possibly Odyssey as well). Not revolted to Jews. Produced more axes earlier. We have one in Beo and one is travelling. the 5 turns from Gilgamesh. Settled the iron instead of the Silver. Even then we probably wouldn't be able to get enough units to Beo anyway. Problem turns out to be that we didn't even get iron for another 2 turns into our peace. Plus, the travel time from Gilgamesh to beo is much to long. Odyssey had already been whipped so hard that it couldn't really be whipped right away again until a turn or two ago. I'm not sure we could have done much more to prevent this. As it is I chopped that axe and half an archer in Beo. Its not like we were building libraries or anything. We built settlers while we waited for iron and then healed our whip unhappy while we built units. We're 4th in power and only 10k behind the leader. I mean Azza also has HBR inflating his power rating. he just happens to have all his units in the right place and 1 spear, 2 chariots and an axe are out of place for us. The spear covering the worker, the chariot in Aenid protecting from bricks galley and the axe built last turn is travelling. If that axe was at beo I think we'd be okay.

I ain't even mad.

Well we'll see, I might do it I might not.

I just feel like I should be allowed to move units that moved before he declared war before him. Otherwise he's the one thats double moving. Same thing with the GD promotions. I mean if he attacks and then we play in the same trun we can't promote our guys before he attacks again just because of turn? No thanks. I'll probably promote any units too.

I bet someone is feeding Azza iron. I really doubt that Wombats secured iron for Azza otherwise he would not have accept peace with us.

well the only unit that can be promoted has been sitting in beowulf the whole time, so that shouldnt be an issue.

I agree with you about the chariot in the Aeneid. BUT, as I said I don't think he can attack next turn (better the following turn when the praet is in place) so I think its moot.

not only that, but he probably wouldnt have settled birds of tokyo with only a single warrior to defend it.
azza almost certainly has a mysterious benefactor that wants to see him fighting the #1 score leader. he may regret it though, if azza managed to take us out (which is not out of the realm of possibility here) azza will be a beast for the rest of the game.

btw we got a trade connection with brick. he has iron. normally this would be awesome timing. I say would because we offered him gold for iron, he refused frown. i re-offered with gold and 3 health resources he doesnt have. he won't accept, I don't think, lol. I think he must be at war as well, pretty sure he would accept if he didn't need the iron himself.

ill keep watching, if he gets a 2nd iron or copper ill re-offer. not expecting that though frown.

I also reoffered maps with serdoa. I expect him to refuse, but maybe if he sees our chariot and knows we've located him he'll accept. i don't care about maps, but I want a trade connection with him to see if he has a spare metal.

Turn 85 report: Well we're boned wink.

Here is azza's stack on our previously connected Iron:
2 axes, one with C1 and 1 with city raider 1. 2 spears unpromoted. 2 C1 chariots, 2 unpromoted chariots.
the praet to the SE is by himself. I'm sure more will be joining himshortly however.

we have decided that since the chariot in the aenid and the worker moved before azza played his turn, it would be giving him a double move not to move them first. the worker will mvoe west, loop around the lake to the odyssey to keep from being captured. the chariot will mvoe into beowulf.
after the attack we whipped a chariot in theodyssey (we had 3 hammers into it already) so that will join the city after azza's turn.

here is our forces:

the axe has a 15% fortification bonus. one spear has a 20% bonus, the other just moved from the gold and has 0. I guess they will all get an additional 10% as the turn rolls?
when the turn rolls we will gain an archer and a chariot. after azza moves we can move in another chariot and the warrior. the archer in the aeneid can be whipped next turn, but that means it won't arrive until 2 turns later.

the spear will stay in the forest until azza's turn (he could move as well, but no point in that). after his turn, I don't know if we leave him be or move him to the hill. probably move him to the hill.

its a shame we weren't able to get a wall in this city. another mistake. I had to talk lewwyn out of offering azza beowulf for peace. But I think we force him to fight, hope we get lucky, and if not, offer him the aeneid for peace. we can't hold it anyway, but the iron/pig city will be a production supercity if we can get it online quick enough, and we can use it to flodo the odyssey with metal units. 10 turns of peace would really help us and be worth the free city. eventually we may be able to take it back.

anyway, we're working the gold to avoid growth and get some extra commerce while we still can. we're keeping the city at size 1 so it will autoraze when azza captures it.

as you can see, we switched to HBR. I think it is 8, maybe 7 turns away. at least that will offer better defenses vs axes and praets than chariots and give us some flexibility that archers won't.

here is the odyssey after the chariot whip. 29 turns of whip unhappy frown.

here is inside gilgamesh:
we had to take both grains to grow gilgamesh in one turn (we were planning to let it grow in 2 before war broke out). however, I just now made this change - swapped a village to the grassland hill. we can still grow but this will allow us to go max hamamers next turn, pop out the archer in one turn, and start a settler the following turn. this archer will be for the iron/pigs city with the settler. we have a worker that will be on the southern forest here next turn. thats 3 more to chop it though, we may wait or we may whip the settler sooner, not sure yet. all our southern workers are rushing back here to road to the new iron city and get ready to chop. we will have to give up our MoM dream, but the good news is that city has food, iron, lots of hills, and lots of forests to chop out axes and horse archers.

this war will work wonderfully for serdoa. I'd say 95% chance he gets MoM, 4.9% chance plako gets it. the other 2 IND's, scooter and adhoc/merovich are too far behind.

inside the iliad:
it will build the archer for 1 turn, then whip, re growing to size 3 in 1 turn. next turn it can steal both grains, most likely, or at least the rice, as gilgamesh will go hammers to finish the archer. then it will have to give them up again so gilgamesh can use the foodhammers for the settler.
This archer probably won't make it to beowulf in time to be relevant, but it can make it to the odyssey and start building up a fortification bonus.

The demos show how how awesome we be if we could just secure a more permanent peace frown
[Image: 9kOSL.jpg]

thanks to the trade routes and working the gold, we are #1 GNP at 0% science. we are 75 GNP at 100% science.

of course this will dip soon when we lose the gold. every turn we hold beowulf helps us get HBR that much quicker, though.

here is our new trade connection with Brick:
Just for the hell of it I offered him gold, wheat, rice and fish for Iron. telegraphing desperation too much? lol. he'll decline I'm sure. I also reoffered map trade to serdoa. don't really need the maps but it would be nice to get a trade connection frown. I'm hioping he'll accept now that we have found his borders, but I doubt it. It sure would be nice if we could secure a friend here.

power graph:

we're ahead of azza in MFG, ahead of azza and serdoa in GNP and food. serdoa isn't building an army or settlers, but has a very high MFG, so he may land the pyramids soon.

here is the planned city site of iron/pigs. name suggestions welcome.

every worker except the one in volsung will work to get this up and goes asap.
2 workers from the south can be in gilgamesh in 2 turns. i guess they will 1 turn a road on the plains cottage to not waste worker turns, then 1 turn a road on the grassland tile SW SW of gilgamesh.
a third worker is a half movement behind since he was starting a cottage on a tile that has no road.
Penelope will catch up whenever she gets around the lake to safety.
anyway with the roads up the city can be founded 2 turns after the settler is complete. it will have 3 workers immediately to get the iron connected, a fourth soon to start chopping, mining, and pasture the pigs. by the time the borders expand it will be highly productive.
