Things went very bad south of Chance. I'd like to know why we didn't cut that road on the silks 1 SE of Chance.

The only unit that could have was our medic and I didn't think we wanted to sacrifice him. In hindsight we should have. We moved our chariot to pillage the horse and yaz followed with a chariot and phalanx. If he didn't India had the units in place to rebuild the horse straight away so there would be no interruption.

Well here's a quick summation. Our stack = dead
We have a chariot on their horse and Greece has a chariot and phalanx on their horse. They have a warrior standing on the hill 2S of Chancellorsville where our dead brethren were killed.
The 3 units on their horses will have to combine with Mali's stack next turn.

I will need a bit of a break from this game. I'll still be around, but will have less time. Below there is an email I sent to Athlete with some explanations. Thanks to all lurkers for their help and posts.
Kalin
Quote:Hi Athlete,
I need a break from the game at least for some time. I hope that's ok
with you. It's a combination of being a bit burned out with the game,
having some real life issues, and I also need to cool down a bit over
our last miss-communication.
Things have been going well so far and I enjoyed playing with you
despite the small issues we had every now and then. The unfortunate
thing is that I got a little too involved in the game. Last night, I
got very upset, more than I wanted to over a game, which is why I need
this break. I got upset at myself for not spelling out the plan more
clearly (that Greece should have used chariots to cut the road, kill
the HA etc.). I got upset at you for not waiting to consult when you
felt you didn't fully understood what I meant. Finally, I got upset at
Jowy for being so unavailable and hard to communicate with.
After a day, I feel better about the whole thing, but I still think a
break would do me good. I do intend to come back in the same role, and
again I hope it'll be ok with you. Meanwhile, I'll be around, but less
available. We can still have a discussion now and then over important
issues.
I think we have the short-medium term in the game pretty well mapped
out, but there need to be some changes. Here are some recommendations:
* We should try to keep the pressure on India, and keep the CoW morale
high. I think we should try to eliminate India, otherwise, they'll be
a constant and huge threat. We shouldn't make peace with India under
any circumstance and our diplomacy with them should stay polite and
vague.
* We should switch several cities to military mode and keep building
troops. Not only those would be good for the current war and to show
the CoW, Jowy and Whosit in particular, that we are serious, but we
can also use them later against the Incas. I think we should focus on
HAs because they will be good later as well, and we get the biggest
bang for the buck. Coruscant, Istanbul, Kas, Yavin should probably
focus on military for a while.
* We should help our allies with cash once we get currency to get Construction.
* We should go ahead with the tGL plan as that's independent of the rest.
* Clarify our relation with the Incas, and send the chariot from Yavin
to explore their land when no longer needed. I would not make the city
S by the Incan territory until we go to war with them. Instead I would
try and make the city between Istanbul and Endor.
That's all for now, I'll see you around, although a bit less for a while.
Good luck,
Kalin

OK So a quick overview.
First domestically. Kashyyyk whipped the spear and is now overflowing into a stable. Coruscant 2-pop whipped an axe last turn from scratch and again is overflowing into a stable. That means the Incan Island plan has been put on hold for the immediate future.
T104 we unfortunately lost an axe to a barb axe. Our Axe was combat 1 and on a hill but it didn't matter apparantly. The barb axe is now dead thanks to a whipped chariot from Yavin IV. Yavin IV overflowed into the library and upon completion will build barracks/stable and focus on HA's.
Istanbul has 2-pop whipped a worker which will overflow into the library. The worker will start mining the grasshills around there and once the library is in Istanbul will be on full military duties same as Yavin IV.
Clak'dor VII will be founded next turn and the Great Lighthouse plan will remain in effect.
War update:
Our galley pillaged the fish resource by Hampton Roads. Should have been done last turn (T104) but I misplayed it !
We have a chariot with mali's main stack threatening gettysburg and we have a warrior with mali's mini stack on a hill to the SE of Anti. HRE stack is 1SE of us.
I believe that's it for now. I won't have time to get the lurkers caught up on all the diplo e-mails but I'll hopefully be able to pick it up again soon.

Well a few reasons. I believe we'll need to focus on HA's to help eliminate the Cow yet we needed an axe immediately to help deal with the barb city. It's at size 2 with 2 fully fortified warriors and an axe (a 2nd appeared after our chariot killed the first). The axe will then join the spear, the chariot and a chariot currently in Greece territory to land via galley in India. The overflow will go nicely into the stable allowing us to get a couple HA's out.
I'm not sure yet where I'm going to squeeze the settler out of to land on the Incan Island, but I'd love to be able to get a couple out so I can not only grab the awesome spot on the E side of the Island but on the N side as well so as to not have our empire's borders split by the Incan. That might be wishful thinking though.

OK. Time for some diplo updates .
From Feb. 6th is where I'm picking up. This is shortly after the decimation of our first stack.
From India:
Quote:Dear Rebel Alliance,
You've surely seen by now that the Ottoman mounted expeditionary force has met with its unfortunate demise. I got the impression from your last message that you didn't really take our threat seriously when we told you that we would hunt down and kill your remaining units. Perhaps now you may see things differently?
You told us before that you were "willing to resume friendly relations if this turns just into a blip on the radar." You also said that you were not helping out Jowy because he is your RBPB3 teammate. We'd really like to believe that those things were true, and that you haven't been misleading us all along...
We'd like to get back to the earlier spirit of cooperation between our teams. Seeing as how we have no borders to dispute, and that you don't really have any units left in our territory, now would seem like a logical time to sign peace and pretend this whole sordid episode never occurred.
There's no reason to send your last chariot to die too. Think of poor Dack Ralter!
Sullla
The Killer Angels
I must say, Sulla has the gift of a silver tongue!
Here's my response sent on the 8th:
Quote:Dear Killer Angels,
I have surely seen the demise of our stack! Thanks for saving us the
gold/turn . The deaths were somewhat expected though so their loss
is not terribly devestating. Now once jedi start dying I'll be worried
.
In all seriousness now would seem like a logical point to accept peace
and resume friendly relations. However this is beginning to look like
more than a simple blip on the radar and I don't believe peace is an
option for the near future.
One point you make that leaves a foul taste in my mouth is you might
believe we're helping Jowy because he is our teammate in rbpb3 to
which I vehemently deny. At one point in the distant future upon one
of us being eliminated I shall be able to prove that to you.
May the force be with you!

A quick not from Greece to The Mediterranean Trio (TMT) received Feb. 7th:
Quote:Hey Athlete & Whosit,
Just a quick note about Fredericksburg. What's the final plan then, are we going to raze the city or have myself capture it? Just asking since I need to start moving some defensive units over there if we want to capture it.
~ Jowy
A response from Rome:
Quote:Dear Jowy and Athlete,
I was actually going to bring this matter up, but you beat me to it. I believe the plan is as follows: While the rest of the Coalition keeps the Killer Angel forces occupied elsewhere, I land my troops and take and capture Fredericksburg. I will then gift it to you, Jowy, assuming that you want it. If you don't want it, I will raze it. However, I would like you to be able to provide your own defenses for the city so I don't have to keep my surviving Praetorians tied up on garrison duty. 1 Archer, 1 Axeman, and 1 Spearman should be sufficient for the short-term. Have the units ready, but do not move to take the city yourself. I do not want Sullla moving units to defend before I reach the city.
Best regards,
Whosit
And I sent a quick acknowledgement to confirm my approval.

An interesting note from Rome to TMT (Feb. 7th):
Quote:Dear Jowy, Athlete, and Kalin,
I realize that we are still in the midst of the war with Sullla and Speaker, but this is an issue that I would rather mention sooner than later. I have good reason to believe that Korea intends to attack me when our NAP expires on Turn 150, or shortly thereafter. They will have Construction by then, thus unlocking their Unique Catapult which will devastate my Praetorians. I wish to diversify my forces, but I do not believe that I can research all of the technologies I would need within this time frame.
So I would like to see if it is possible for me to purchase some extra units from both of you before T150 hits. I would like:
*Horse Archers from the Rebel Alliance.
*Catapults from the Greek empire.
I am thinking four (4) of each right now. As payment, I would offer equivalent hammers of units at a later date upon request (with some prior notice). One of the reasons I am bringing this up in advance is to give us time to discuss the logistics of moving these units to my territory. Again, I realize that the primary target right now is Sullla/Speaker, but hopefully we can deal some body blows to them in the next few dozen turns, allowing us to divert our resources in other directions. Please let me know if you think that a deal like this is plausible.
Best regards,
Whosit, Galactic Emperor
My response:
Quote:Greetings Emperor Whosit,
The Rebel Alliance will certainly be able to provide those units
requested. We are focused on producing some 2XP ready HA's now for the
CoW and will be happy to give them to you once the Spulla have been
dealt with.
