RBPBEM FfH V [SPOILERS] Sareln of the Amurites

Diplomacy:

Sareln Wrote:[COLOR="Magenta"]SquareLeg,

I've yet to puzzle out how the barbarian chooses its victims, but my scout survived the scorpion. By pure luck, I have made contact with the Balsareph scout you mentioned, though now both of our scouts are standing next to a Giant Spider!

Your map hypothesis seems correct from my perspective. I've yet to find the Clan's actual borders, but I expect to find them soon. The sidar are only a handful of tiles from the ruins of Patria themselves, across the land bridge just north of the Ruins.

The map also seems rather small/cramped, with lots of flood plains in the center.

Turn 33:

Chatting with Bob he mentions that he's about to plant his 2nd city towards the clan. Darn lizardman choke lol.

My Nothern scout gets eaten by the spider, such is the life of the scout, he had a pretty good run though, gaining contact with Luchuirp and Balsareph.

That Lizardman is C1, but I've got no choice but to move out and cover the worker as he improves the plantation. If the Lizard takes the warrior, then hopefully I can finish him off with another warrior. Either that or I win the near even battle to pull more XP onto my C2 warrior.

Potential Message to Tredje & Mardoc:

Quote:Tredje, Mardoc,

The last couple of turns have been rather eventful for me. I've managed to meet both Dwarf and Clown, though my scout got chewed up by a giant spider in the process. Squareleg has a pretty good idea of how the map is laid out, if he hasn't shared it with you already. I assume you've managed to meet the Sidar by now, though if you haven't, their capital is pretty much 10 diagonal squares from my own. SquareLeg's is pretty much directly on the same horizontal line as the Sidar's. I imagine your scouting is much better than mine at this point, what with Wolf Riders with Barbarian protection to my rather humble scouts.

This leaves only Serdoa/Sheaim, have you heard from them yet?

what does the feature Odio's Prision do?

If it's within your cultural borders and not being occupied by hostile forces it grants +25% strength to friendly units within 3 tiles.

Do you have any questions for me?

Hey Sareln,

Yeah sometimes they are a complete mystery. Sometimes you want them to attack and they choose not to, other times they hang around for an age! I guess it is the prerogative of the barbs to be that way.

I shall try and send a warrior to meet the Sidar soon, I have explored that way as far as the deer tile so I must have got pretty close then. Not a great deal to talk about at the moment but should you wish to discuss our mutual neighbour at any time, let me know.

Cheers,
Square Leg/Garrim Gyr

Turn 34:

I lost my C2 warrior in the between turn, but he damages the Lizardman enough for vanilla warriors to have 60% odds. I take the shot and am rewarded with 6XP on an empty warrior. Next turn that warrior will go to C2 and I'll have steady-stated vis-a-vis lizardmen.

Rejigger the capital for growth so that I max research and grow just as the plantation finishes. I'll be fortifying the C2 warrior on the 2nd plantation to the north so that I keep lizardmen out that way hopefully. With the 25% fortify bonus, I should be able to hold basic lizardmen.

My scout continues his journeys in the south, having not yet found the clan! They seem to be further away than I initially anticipated, so I may not be as cramped as I thought I was. After I find the clan border, I'll probably dial up Iskender to talk about long-term settling deals. I also need to start considering a dotmap soon, probably after mysticism and GodKing come in. SquareLeg has gotten his first Great Engineer, so he definitely settled that hammer in his capital. Solid play. I don't think there are any super-critical early wonders, so I wouldn't be surprised if he saves the GE to bulb a tech on the metal line, He started with crafting iirc, so research mining and bulb BW would be the natural thing to do.

Some Random Thoughts/Feelings

Otherwise known as "Notes to Self"
  • I've not heard a peep out of Tredje & Mardoc for quite a while, this is somewhat concerning and prompted my "do you have any questions" message to them. I'm trying to chat them up just a little bit to see how they're feeling. For now though, I'm just going to have to assume that they're ill-inclined (until I get a look at the actual travel distance between us) as a safety precaution. That means we build more warriors, which with raging barbs is still the right choice.
  • In the near future I'm going to finish Mysticism and swap over to God King. At that point I think I start running up the metals line (Crafting->Mining->BW) to get myself some T2 units in the interest of not-dying. I'll also probably pop out an elder council and start working on my great-sage. I've no reason to work on any other kind of great person, since the academy is so strong.
  • SquareLeg has mentioned that he's interested in talking about Iskender. Given the lay of the land between the two of them, the natural border between SquareLeg and Iskender is that chokepoint to the left of the Ruins of Patria. That means any split of Iskender's land will result in the lion's share going to me (including the cap). I'll keep that in mind, but I really do need to see the actual position of the clan before making any calls in that direction.
  • Bob is settling towards the clan, which is going to push them a little bit towards me, or provoke a violent response towards the clowns. I need to be aware of that moving forwards.

Non-Game Things to Establish in the Short Term:

  1. Get a read of some sort on the Clan's Intentions
  2. Talk with Iskender about a longish term NAP
  3. Coordinate some more information sharing with Bob & SquareLeg

YACWB (Yet another Chatlog with Bob)

Synopsis: Bob has found Clan Borders. They are about 5 west of Squarelegs westernmost border. I should find them quite soon then. They're really close to Bob. Squareleg requested the same information I did (location of clan). Some talk about Goblin Forts.

(12:33:16 PM) Sareln: Hey, I forget, do you have contact with the Clan yet?
(12:33:23 PM) BobChllingsworth: indeed I do
(12:33:30 PM) Sareln: how talkative have they been?
(12:33:41 PM) BobChllingsworth: we had a brief chat, mostly about the map
(12:33:48 PM) BobChllingsworth: (I've actually found their borders)
(12:33:53 PM) Sareln: oh cool
(12:33:55 PM) Sareln: if I may ask
(12:34:01 PM) Sareln: how far abouts are they wrt Squareleg?
(12:34:11 PM) BobChllingsworth: wut
(12:34:15 PM) Sareln: I've been pushing a scout right and not finding them.
(12:34:27 PM) Sareln: WithRegardsTo
(12:34:43 PM) Sareln: I chose squareleg since we both know where his capital is...
(12:34:52 PM) Sareln: I don't think we have another common reference point yet.
(12:35:02 PM) BobChllingsworth: ah. If only I recieved a turn today I'd have an image ready for you, since SL requested the same info
(12:35:13 PM) Sareln: heh, makes sense
(12:35:16 PM) Sareln: Serdoa has got it iirc
(12:35:30 PM) Sareln: I was a little worried coming home late last night that I had missed Iskender, but apparently I was just quick enough.
(12:35:32 PM) BobChllingsworth: I know. Tempted to bug him, but he has "busy" status on gmail
(12:36:08 PM) Sareln: yeah, best not to disturb then.
(12:36:28 PM) BobChllingsworth: for where the Clan are... we'll, they're close to me for one
(12:36:33 PM) BobChllingsworth: uncomfortably close
(12:36:43 PM) Sareln: I *thought* that was the situation I was in
(12:36:49 PM) Sareln: but I keep pushing that scout right and not seeing them
(12:37:00 PM) Sareln: they might actually end up being further away from me than Iskender is...
(12:37:14 PM) Sareln: do you have any goblin forts nearby?
(12:37:21 PM) Sareln: I've got one about 5 - 7 tiles from my cap
(12:37:46 PM) BobChllingsworth: going from a screencap in my thread, the Clan are about 5 tiles west of SL's westernmost border
(12:37:50 PM) BobChllingsworth: of course far more to the south
(12:38:26 PM) BobChllingsworth: I've got a goblin fort somewhere in the fog which was bothering me for a while, but seems to have given up for the time being
(12:38:42 PM) BobChllingsworth: I wish they'd come back actually, I was training a warrior on them
(12:38:46 PM) Sareln: heh
(12:39:04 PM) Sareln: I would vastly prefer fighting poisoned goblins over the lizardmen harass I'm facing now :D
(12:39:12 PM) Sareln: but the fort has been quiet as well.
(12:39:27 PM) Sareln: Maybe their spawn rate will change when Orcs start showing?
