Who shall lead us to Victory!!!

No, I would pick both civs first. I would assume that RMOG do want to get NA as well tbh, judging from their first pick (Maya). I think they might actually really try to race us to SH, so denying them the Fishing/Agri civ they most probably want is a good thing.

So we pick Korea and then NA?

FYI, sorry I haven't been giving much input on this part but as I had mentioned earlier I've been busy packing up my fiancee's condo to move her to the east coast. Yesterday was spent loading the truck, today still doing stuff and a bridal shower from her friends out here, and then tomorrow we'll be driving a truck 12-15 hours halfway across the country.

But even if I was available for full discussion, I don't think I'd be much help. smile

Tough decision. In theory, I like China + Spain better, but the opportunity to take Native America and either screw over RMOG for starting techs (as well as guarantee our own) or deny them a good civilization (if they take the Netherlands) is too strong. I vote Korea + Native America. With that, we seem to have consensus, and since multiple people have suggested taking Korea first of the two, I'll go post that that's our pick. Native America next (we hope!), then a Financial leader. I'm kind of hoping Elizabeth is left so we can maybe go Stonehenge -> Totem Poles everywhere -> Oracle -> Metal Casting -> fast forges with Ind, fast Great Engineer with Phi -> bulb Machinery -> super crossbows really early + super catapults for awesome late classical/early medieval warring.

Sounds like the plan!

Which, the picks part, or the crossbows part?

I wouldn't put my hopes high for Lizzie tbh wink Actually, we might end with FIN/AGG or even FIN/CHA.

No, I wouldn't either. Just would be really nice.

Lizzy is gone. Who do we pick? Mansu? Ragnar? Hannibal? Victoria?

Maybe Mansu is a good pick. It will save a lot of Anarchy turns.

Picks so far:

1: Darius (FIN/ORG), ???
England (Fishing / Mining - Redcoat, Stock Exchange)
HRE (Myst / Hunting - Landsknecht, Rathaus)

2: Bismarck (EXP/IND), ???
Korea (Myst / Mining - Hwacha, Seowon)
Native America (Agri / Fishing - Dog Soldier, Totem Pole)

3: Huayna (FIN/IND), Gandhi (SPI/PHI)
Maya (Mining / Myst - Holkan, Ball Court)
???

4: Mehmed (EXP/ORG), Elizabeth (FIN/PHI)
Sumeria (Agri / Wheel - Vulture, Ziggurat)
Rome (Fishing / Mining - Praet, Forum)

So, looking at that, Smack took the techs you really should take if you don't intend to pursue SH (or if you are certain that no one is so dumb as to try for it in the first 15 turns). Sumeria is probably paired with Lizzie while Rome gets Mehmed (thats more savings on the Courthouses than the other way round). That would mean no added Forum-bonus on the PHI-bonus, but imo that still makes more sense.

Team 1 is fearing the maintenance-costs it seems. Apart from that I'd assume they won't do any early aggression, as their civs and leaders so far are all meant to shine in the late-game. That could bite them depending on their last leader in the early game, we'll see.

RMOG is just plain annoying. Sorry, but they really are. I guarantee they will take Dutch and try to race us for SH. With SPI they have the benefit of one turn less for Anarchy + they are first in turn order. *sigh* On the plus side, we have EXP. I checked and they need a turn more without EXP if they followed the same micro-plan I laid out (though that might be possible to do better). But as they are first in turn order, they would still win it. And I don't see us winning SH by two turns if they really try for it. Probably have to try and read Demos to find out what they do.

And the worst part is that with their picking, the only one really helped is Smack, as they had free reign to get good leaders and civs. THAT is why you don't pick IND in a 4-team match when it was already picked. You weaken your pick, you weaken the other IND-pick AND you give the other teams a much easier time on their picks. Now, no matter if we or them get SH, we both will have a much harder time against Smack. And if we indeed race for SH whoever loses out on it will really be set behind quite far (well, with my micro-plan we can at least put the chop into something else, probably another worker).

As for our last pick: SPI works only for one civ afaik, so it won't help us in the race. It would help down the line of course and with EXP/IND we certainly wouldn't mind a strong late-game leader. But I think Hannibal could actually work great here IF we take SH. He will have a happy-cap of 6 with it which would help to work many more cottages. And thats in the end what you want your FIN-civ to do. Pair him with NA, so he can get highly promoted Archers VERY easily (6XP just via Barracks + Totem Pole, 8XP = 3promos just with added Theocracy or a GG settled). It will lose steam later on, but till then we need to have used the higher happy-cap to have teched away anyhow if we want to win.
