As gavagai noted, it's not nearly as surprising a move if you've played with Bacchus before.

Because we might as well lurk it! [lurkers thread, no players]

It seems to be an interesting move. Though possibly a very smart move as now his competitors do not have access to the cottages. Only problem is that now they might be thoroughly pissed.

This game remains interesting; three who can win it and the other two far from irrelevant.
I actually wonder from reading this and looking back at the things that worked/didn't work in PB9 and PB15...I think Sullla's comments about Standard Size being seven civs for a reason might have some validity. This does seem like an excellent scale for the game to play out on. Trouble is, you definitely want close quality in players or some handicapping to make it that way (giving Gavagai last pick between Genghis/Giggles/Qin, ow).

Irony: If Bacchus' winning of the Communism GSpy coinflip actually torpedoes him; I didn't read Gavagai planning on making the Kremlin, if Bacchus had waited a turn he would have been fine...

Bacchus is an interesting player. A lot of his decisions have a consistent and rational internal logic, yet end up working out poorly regardless because it isn't apparent to his opponents. I suspect he'd do pretty well in a diplo game.
TBH he thinks on a different level than most other people, which means that most other people would not even understand his intentions.

Well, quantity has a quality all its own, don't it? That's a pretty crippling blow, not just the capital loss but the ~3 turns of funds, too. Hum can pile on quite nicely now.

Ironically, considering his philosophical discussion elsewhere, Gavagai is showing a ton of aggression. I can't really say he's doing wrong in this case; he's got a pretty passive crew around himself here. I'm very amused by his un-RB tendency to solve his problems not through efforts to grow (either via tech magic, REX, or conquest of the weakest), but by hammering the taller poppies down. I wouldn't think this would be generally successful, but with this crew...seems like the right call. Certainly is messing with the others, who are trying to better themselves to Gav's perpetual befuddlement.
He can't beat Furungy to Combustion...but Furungy is focusing on economy of factories at Assembly Line. He can't beat Bacchus to Combustion...but Bacchus is focusing on economy with Kremlin rushing at Democracy. Hell of an entertaining trip. I can't wait for him to be unable to beat Hum to Combustion, but Hum is focusing on Electricity, or him to be unable to beat Zanth to Combustion, but Zanth is beelining Mass Media.
