RBPB4 [SPOILERS] - De Gaulle of the Egyptians

Irgy Wrote:You can also tell if the fog-gazed water is a freshwater lake by whether the grass forest tile just S of the silk says "fresh water". Although it could still be a big salty lake.
Good point. At least fresh water (or not) confirms whether the lake is 9 or less tiles vs 10+ tiles, though (the point at which fresh water automatically becomes salt water in civ).

I just double checked all border tiles that we can see in the game at present, and aside from the riverside tiles and the tiles next to that 4-square lake, everything else is NOT fresh water. So that means the lake/sea south of the 4-square lake is 10+ tiles, and the lake/sea SE of that is also 10+ tiles (assuming it's not the same one; looks like a land bridge to the SW of the capital but could just be a peninsula). We can also tell that the coast we can see to the north of the capital is part of a lake/sea of 10+ tiles, and the coast visible to the east of us is also part of a lake/sea of 10+ tiles. For all we know all 4 of these regions of coast we can see could be part of the same lake/sea at the moment, but who knows.

Irgy Wrote:My guess is NW-SW-SW for the warrior, but we'll see.
That seems to be the logical option at the moment to me as well, but we'll see if anything else is revealed along the way that might change that plan.

So, the Warrior moved 1NW this turn.

This revealed a hill 2SW - and it looks like there's another hill W of that one, too. Seems that moving 1SW-1SW over the next few turns should indeed be the best course of action. Senseless and Irgy - do you both agree? smile

Yep, 2SW would be my move as well.

Yep SW is good. North pole or not you're less likely to find another civ in the tundra.

True. Although it's possible we could find another civ through the tundra, but only if the mapmaker has tried to pull a trick on us. More likely that we can indeed assume the north is fairly safe, I think.

Heh, funny story... I thought I only knew two of the guys in this game (plako and mackoti), but turns out by complete accident I actually know a third as well. I just didn't recognise the different username until seeing a post by Sullla for the Civ5 succession game that mentioned "luddite ( pi-r8 )". I recognised pi-r8 immediately as the guy who'd co-hosted an episode of Polycast with me a while back. So there you go. lol

So, heading 1SW reveals a couple more hills. No more resources yet, though.

Our borders also expanded this turn. Looks like we're safe for 3 tiles in all directions except 3SE. Given the extreme unlikelihood of anyone hitting that exact tile pre-turn 12, I don't think we need to worry about sending the Warrior back yet.

The land around us looks fairly hilly... I just hope there's enough food hidden in the fog to be able to work all those potential mines. It's looking pretty food-poor right now - finding only a single 4-food resource outside the capital after this amount of time is a bit odd.

Warrior 1SW next, then 1NW?

Definately 1SW anyway. After that see what we see. I'd be inclined to keep zagging south, to the point of even just beelining SW until we hit something. But it's hard to say.

So, we headed 1SW this turn, and...

The tile 2NW of the Warrior is not a hill, but the tile 1W-1SW is in fact a hill. As such, I'd suggest we head for that tile next. The only question is whether to go 1W-1SW or 1SW-1W. I think 1W-1SW is probably the preferable option, given that it looks like it reveals better tiles than the alternative (which only reveals a peak and a coast). Thoughts? smile

1W sounds good to me.

My thoughts on Stonehenge are that you should go for it. It's worth getting, and you should have a good chance. I would think Roosevelt/Netherlands is almost certainly going to be gunning for the Lighthouse. Bismark/Sumeria are your most likely competition. And maybe a surprise attempt from Wang Kon of Arabia, since he has Mysticism already.

If you want to know whether you'll get it or not, there's one thing that might help quite a bit: Demographics. As far as I understand, once an Industrious civ starts on it, there'll be a spike in the production demographics from the 50% bonus, that you should be able to spot.

The only trouble is telling that spike apart from expansive workers/granaries and imperialistic settlers...
