Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Nicolae Carpathia and Selrahc bring about World Peace, UHC, Apocalypse as Sheaim

Any thoughts on the diplo email I proposed earlier? I'd really like to get the PoS and some prime land post-bronze-working.

Just don't offer anything...

It's all jungle land. We'll have Bronze Working dozens of turns before he will, making it a much easier settle for us.

I think even if he pushes unimproved cities into the jungle to deny us land, we'll still get the pyre and the city with rice and mana and he'll have hampered his early development. If he follows a more natural settling pattern, we'll get even more of the jungle.

Huh, I'm not sure how these turns could have been done differently.

Spot a barb skeleton, decide to keep working 2/0/2 tile as I'd get the same warrior eta as immediately switching to a 1/2 tile.

A C3 Lizardman appears.

Um, I think I'm fucked.

Maybe I shouldn't have gotten greedy and opened with 2 warriors, fortifying 1 in the capital.

Also, my scout got eaten on T16 by a giant spider. So that warrior is my only dude on the planet. Strangely enough, I had vision on it, aren't they meant to be invisible, or are scouts special that way?

Recon line ( scout, hunter, beastmaster, hawk ) can spot invisible animals like spiders.

Small comfort to him as he gets digested.

So, any bets on how screwed I am?

Ouch all those at once. AND the C3 Lizardman... That is seriously hard core. You don't have to go 2 warriors first in FFH, and if the warrior finishes next turn then you will have 2 to weather the storm. The only really ouchy thing about this is that they are advancing from the side that you want to build improvements on.

Hopefully this will be a good thing and the promotions you get on the defence now will allow you to fortify on one of the hills so that they will attack the warriors there and leave your worker to improve in peace.

GOOD LUCK!

The second warrior will complete before the lizard attacks, so you aren't immediately doomed.

Depending on how lucky the lizard gets in combat though... you could still be doomed. A combat 3 lizard will be getting good odds against an unpromoted warrior.

Seeing how lair heavy everything is? 2 warriors as the starting builds would have been better. But you didn't know that when you started in on a worker so don't feel too bad... I'm just hoping you're not going to be taken down here.

This kind of thing is why I generally like pushing out a few warriors first, but early workers can be viable. They just come with an element of risk.. which we are running into hard.

EDIT: OR is that a screenshot taken after EoT? In which case.. yeah.. Fingers crossed.

2 barb swords as well? That's really unlucky for how early this is. I don't feel that starting by making a couple of warriors is really a viable tactic though - someone in the game is always going to start worker first and not get bad luck with barbs and they will just be so far ahead if you spend 10+ turns without a worker.

Oh right, they're just skeletons. For some reason, they graphics are buggy and sometimes they'll replace the skeleton model with a swordsman model (same swap between default Civ4 warrior and Pyre Zombies).

Really, I'm rolling two dice here, one that the lizardman won't attack, the second that I'll survive the inevitable combat.

It's because you're using Animations Frozen setting. It causes a range of unit models to act weirdly.
