Really? That seems stupid but alas. That's the end of that idea.

Thanks Plako

Looking again, why no love for 1E of the settlers?

That has fish, crabs and sheep for food and 5 hills and marble for production.

Could then possibly settle the other city 2W of current city on the grass hill which grabs the other seafood as well as sharing some hills for a while with the capital.

Again, we really need scouting results for this to work.

Best case scenario is that we find horses in the fog, as that is the resource we most importantly need to secure.

I agree with bob - we may as well scout with the worker too (moving NE then E probably).

We need to find horses and iron asap, and we know from the mapmakers instructions that strategic resources need to be within 5 tiles from the starting position I believe.

1E can't be defended, with two bodies of water to it's side and two hills from the same direction, with a lake preventing very easy counterattacks, no visible advantage to me over 1 NE, given 1NE can actually be defended(Even if the hills behind it are still a bitch)

1NE and some west means the SE body of water with the crab can't be work boated.

The choice of 1W or 1SW really depends on what use I could get out of that copper with a city in the southern fog

OK

Well if you are still set on going for 1SW of the incense, how about the other city 2E of the settlers on the grassland hill?

Gets the sheep, can improve the crab early which can be shared with the capital when needed and is easier defended.

With all that we can see, I would have to go with 2W and 1E. Those get the most food tiles into use, and with all these hills we are going to need the food tiles.
Still, we are going to need to scout before choosing here more than any of the other starts. So after we see:

Southern archer: 1NW to grass hill
Northern archer: 1N to plains hill
Scout: 2S
Worker: NE-SE or NE-NE -- leaning towards NE-SE Edit: Instead of NE-SE, just moving SE onto the grass hill should reveal more tiles

Screenshots after those moves should give us a fuller picture.

1NE is better because it is both defensible and gets the same tiles, even if it needs someone else's boat for the third food resource.

I don't understand the defensible argument. How is it not defensible???

If you settle the capital 1SW you'll have just enough food to work every hill, the plains copper, the plains incense, and then the remaining boring regular plains tile. It's on a plains hill in a very defensible location and if you're worried about having access between the three bodies of water you can just build a fort on one of the worthless plains tiles.

I can't comment on what would be the best second city location until you are able to move some units to scout. The worker needs to clear tiles near the marble- 1E of it might be a good city location. You're Imperialistic, so don't worry about founding filler sites- the hammers will pay themselves back quickly.
