DaveV spoiler thread: Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards

I like white dot. Seems it has the most intrigue, which is what I go for when settling cities... lol

Serious question:

Where do you see your production coming from longterm?

I move my scout to the next hill, and find the next giant spider cry:

Score and demographics reveal that Tholal has grown to size 5, thanks to not being health capped. His new citizen is working a 1-food tile, and not providing much in the way of hammers or commerce. Ichabod has discovered a first-tier tech, which must be Crafting. An "interesting" choice. I'm still #1 in soldiers, till the end of this turn frown.

Lord Baden-Powell must have put some emphasis on the physically fit part of the scout code: he survived a spider attack (at about 18% odds, Sareln's calculator says) jive. I promote him to combat II, but he's still only at 1.3 strength and poisoned. If any wandering animals find him as he limps home, he's almost certainly done for. Since the tiles leading back to the safe zone are fogged anyway, he might as well explore a few more black ones:

Tholal gets the points for his pop growth; he and Ilios discover a tech. Two changes in demographics: I'm now 4000 soldier points ahead of my nearest rival, and 4th in GNP (the three guys with a tech under their belts are researching something with no prereqs). Everyone else is going with 4 warriors? According to my sims, that might work out, but I'm paranoid.

Alas, Lord Baden Powell finally met his match. Embarassingly for the great spider slayer, it was the weakest animal that did him in (two of them, actually!):

I can hardly complain about my starting scout surviving for 15 turns. RIP Robert Baden Powell. You performed your task well.

Demograhics show that I'm now in a second-place tie with Tholal for population, meaning everyone else is building a settler or worker. No offense, guys, but I hope a pair of griffons eat your settler and his feeble escort!

Here's a composite picture that shows everything you need to know. The other guys were smart to stop at size 4, since my 5th citizen is working a 1-food, 1-hammer, no commerce tile. Except, I'll only be working that tile for a total of 2 turns: after my 1-turn Elder Council, that citizen will become a scientist.

Turn 16, Mysticism comes in, I revolt to God King. Not worth switching to Pacifism to change my GPP from 6 to 7. Demos after I end turn show what the other guys will see: zero GNP, but production shows the God King bonus. Let them figure that out!

No screenshot today, since I did an end-of-turn deomgraphics screenshot last turn. GNP increased to 18 from that one. I finished my Elder Council, and will build a settler next.

The game has entered the "press enter" phase now. I really hope we can set up a blitz, since I won't have any interesting decisions for a while.

Yeah, the long stretches of "hit enter" are also one reason why having lots of lairs on a map is nice, gives you something to look forward to while you build expensive FFH units and buildings.

I always take flanking with my scouts (unless I'm the Svarts), 20% chance to survive a combat with anything tougher than a lion is usually better than a scout will get even with multiple combat promos.

With flanking you have chanses to survive even you are atacked?????

Yes, retreat chance applies on defense. It can be really annoying when you're attacking retreat-capable units.
