I think I just assumed that, if it wasn't going to work, one of the lurkers would have corrected us.

In retrospect that was not a good assumption lol

Is this 30 turns ago? We already had this conversation. It works.

Hi guys!

Lurking here for 2 years, discovering this site by way of Cuban Isolationists > Sulla's site > RB, staying here because of Pocketbeetle's FFH1 thread.

I want to defend Team 1 here. It all comes down to the WB test. Sulla learned that you need 3 cities in 1 civ, and he had no reason to suspect otherwise. Both Team 1 and Dave assumed that Team 2 switched to Cultural Victory halfway through the game after they realized that it is unlikely for them to win through domination/space.

Team 4 doesn't have a chance at victory, but they still actively play the game and harass the other teams. So it is not absurd to assume something similar for Team 2, that they either do it just for fun or that they hope to coast unnoticed to victory. It is not really strange for a loosing team to try something unexpected.

It is natural to make assumptions that fit with your perceived facts (CV only possible with all cities in one civ), rather than to challenge these facts, and neither of these assumptions was unreasonable.

The only mistake is not checking again if a Cultural Victory is possible, now that they have seen that Team 2 has three legendary cities.

The big mistake is their testing methodology. They did not have a control. They've researched Scientific Method, they should know this stuff! (Honestly though it should be instinctual. Isolate the freaking thing you're trying to test!)

There are also the options to google it and/or ask lurkers, both of which would take just a few seconds - less than it took to run that half-test.

The best part is that Team 2 JUST googled it again and got the answer.
