Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] A threesome becomes a twosome

I guess it's hard to argue with the gnomes for first preference. The ability to build improvements faster and not having to build as many workers would have a big impact over the course of the game.

Kurios 2nd - they have an awful lot going for them: large population = better trade route payoff; Centaurs and Centaur Chargers require *no* buildings; worldspell can be used early or saved for wartime culture bomb. A team setting nullifies most of the Kurios' weaknesses.

Keelyn 3rd, I guess: she's just so overpowered that it's better to have her on our side. But those turns with many dozens of puppets and spectres to move around were just <shudder>.

Falamar is another overpowered leader, but strongly dependent on map settings. I'm assuming the map will have some water, but this could be either a very bad or very good pick. Again, though, a team setting would help make up for his weak melee line.

Vampires are very good, but I'm worried that they might require too many specialized techs. Code of Laws is on the way to Currency, but Feudalism doesn't give anything other than Vampires, now that Royal Guards have been moved to Stirrups and Social Order.

Elohim and Amurites are worth picking just for their world spells.

Leader traits that would be good to have: Organized for Command Posts; Raiders for deep strikes or pillage economy (pillaging a town down to nothing yields about 100-200 gold for a non-raider civ, should be double for raiders), Arcane for faster mages. As plako said, it would be great to have a Financial civ that runs 0% slider and funds research for the other two.

Adaptive leaders: Varn, Cardith, Falamar, Cassiel.

Welcome Jkaen!

I agree Dave. I figure we'll get one 'top tier' civ, one strong civ and one that we'll just have to try and fit synergy with.

Snake pick wise, I hope we're third or fourth. There are enough civs in the 'top tier', but not as many in the next bunch. I severely doubt we'll get both Luchuirp and Kurios (I expect Luchuirp to be first pick for Thoth/Ellimist/Mardoc at least). No idea about the reddit guys, I really hope they go with something really unexpected like Sheaim.

Let's make sure that we discuss before each pick though, even if we have our choices down in the thread. Choices evolve depending upon the picks of the others. eg. If we're third and team reddit are fourth, i'm more likely to want to pick Kurio's first, let them pick two and then grab Luchuirp on way back. Metagaming fun...

More research: wonders which are very strong in a regular game, but will be insanely good in this game because they apply to the whole team:

Guild of Hammers
Form of the Titan

Worth considering, because they apply to the whole team:

Catacomb Liberalus
Great Library

Not ideal to be picking 1st. Would have prefereed 4th. Maybe we should suggest a switch with Reddit team wink. Now if the last round is also unfavourable to us we can't even get any synergy for our last picks.

Based on Commodore description we can still pick Beeri/Lurchuip as our 1st pick or what do you think? It is pretty evident we won't see any other of our power leaders in the 2nd round so we better start considering the 2nd tier nations.

Going to work so won't be able to post again for awhile. I think we got the worst possible result from the order.

If we think: ABCDDCBA is fair, which is what we normally use, is going last in the end makes our pick worse. Even in the above situation, I think we have the worst of it. I'd MUCH rather swap with D (hart and co) if they fancy it. Their spot is a lot better. If we can't swap, pick luchuirp in my opinion, but try the swap.

Agree with Luchuirp for first pick. We may find that the other teams have different opinions on the best picks, and be able to choose one of our preferred teams even with the 8th pick.

Fingers crossed.

Strong picks so far.

Yes, I expected that everyone knows what they're doing, and the picks confirm it.

I'm in the middle of a business trip, so I won't be able to check in on a regular basis tomorrow. I trust you two to make the next pick(s) without me.

Is it worth arguing that the play order should be the opposite of the 3rd round pick order (Which you guys lost)?
