It's a pleasure to meet you. We trust that everything is going well in your part of the world. The kingdom of the animals comes in peace... despite the noise and chaos you may notice as you approach our borders.
Feel free to suggest additions. Not sure we need to say a whole lot at this point. Could leave it as a brief greeting... or add proposals e.g. for mutual peace and non-aggression.
Thoughts?
Also, I'm not sure Gillette even has an email at this point, so could just send to Mackoti/SevenSpirits/whoever else is high up on the team.
I think we should include the info we have waited for their greetings since turn 6 and in absence of it we decided to make the first step. And that we know they are to the south.

What does pointing that out actually acheive though?
It's a genuine question by the way, I can't see what the answer is myself but I can imagine there might be one.
I think what it does is make them believe that we have eyes to the south so that they may think twice before trying to sneak in with some sort of rush attack. Basically they tried to hide from us where they came from. This let's them know they can't sneak up on us.
They say the hills have eyes, but truly, it is only the fluffy, friendly little animals that see approaching scouts. It was a pleasure to see you recently, if only for a very short time. We trust that everything is going well in your part of the world. Diplomatically Yours,

How to/whom to send? Site PM to team leaders with a return email address? (Set up a specific diplo email, or use the one already created for this game? I favor the latter, no need to create extra complexity.)

Very cool! I certainly do recall some of the great diplo's from the long ago days when we use to play so often. And that sort of greeting (southern neighbors) was pretty much exactly what I was going to suggest as our way of saying that we know where they are.
You can log into our gmail account (see the Game Info post for the details) and send it from there. That is, if we can obtain an email address from Gillette. By using our team gmail account, we can all log in to see and review any messages back and forth.
