What if we settled down by the corn and opted to go worker for the first build of our second city? Would that get us enough time to pull in Wheel, BW, & Pottery? Will have to take a peek at what a city by the wheat up north would look like; if it's a lot better as a second city spot then it may not matter that it's the wrong direction.

Time for more sims! I'll try to update that tonight. Tech path I'll be working with is BW->The Wheel->Pottery, with Hunting if we need it (before T50 or if we settle Ivory, whichever comes first).

So... when can we update the Captain's Log?

The one in the east is probably TEAM's. Our Scout is in the south, I'll turn him around and scout that area.

Since we're discussing settling by the Ivory/Wheat, here's another picture of that:

Maybe we should send our first settler directly to that hill 1W of the corn. THat would be a bold pink dot...

Why pink dot? The land around here is fertile. We have a huge grassland river, food resources of, some happiness nearby in the form of Ivory, our own source of Gold upriver, and Horses close to the capital.

True, but it also looks like the map is kinda crowded, so land is at a premium.

1W of the corn wouldn't be impossible to hold - we'd be looking at 5 tiles from our capital. The issue would be if we can get a strategic resource (or archery, but necessitating archery isn't worth the pink dot IMO) in time to hold it from any hostility down south.

Myself, I like the idea of doing something bold, like pink-dotting down there.

Luddite makes a point - if we settle there before we even meet them, then there's a bit of deniability. We can claim we didn't intentionally do it.

But still, why Pink Dot? The land here is great. Grassland rivers, food, happiness, strategic resources. With these in our backyard, why do we need to go out of our way to get it? Besides, aggressive land claims = war.

I'd prefer if we settle there before even making contact with them, that way we avoid all the diplomatic hassles.

Don't we already have 'contact' with them since Lewwyn is requesting screenshots?

Actually, I'm starting to like pink dot even more. Horses are 2W of that fish; a natural 3rd city could go SW of the fish and we'll have chariots on scene to help defend any early aggression.

I can't really compare corn + 2 fur to the pink dot spot. Grabbing that elephant & gold would just be tons better. Holding it is the only real concern, but if we're quick to horses or if we find bronze in a convenient spot then I think it'll be fine.

You know, I think the Gold was intentionally placed between two teams. Just look how our Eastern gold is between us and TEAM.

I still don't like it. Far away, not easily defendable.

I still say we go for a nearby spot. Pink Dots have the tendency to tick off neighbors. Burning tons of hammers and Worker turns on that spot doesn't seem like a good idea to me. It's not like it's our only source of Copper or Gold or food in the region.

I don't think it's a good idea to be bold just for the sake of being bold.
