I think we should go ahead and make a play for it with our second city. I would like, however, to make sure we have copper within easy reach before we do. I feel fairly sure it will be in the second or third ring of our capital. In designing this map, I think Commodore will have put either copper at the capital to make rushing hard - something that would ruin a game like this.

I don't think we should make a play for it. That city's smack dab right between our capitals. If copper's in easy reach, why not settle there for a second city? We have the slight problem of no The Wheel for a trade connection, so if copper's in easy reach of everyone, they'll have Axes before we do.

1W of the corn wouldn't be impossible to hold - we'd be looking at 5 tiles from our capital. The issue would be if we can get a strategic resource (or archery, but necessitating archery isn't worth the pink dot IMO) in time to hold it from any hostility down south.

Myself, I like the idea of doing something bold, like pink-dotting down there.

Luddite makes a point - if we settle there before we even meet them, then there's a bit of deniability. We can claim we didn't intentionally do it.
