EXCELLENT! Thanks.
Racial style - as in the type of buildings? Thinking about my story arch - it has to be Asian (South Asia rather than North Asia). I cannot say I am very familiar with the various racial styles.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Options are Middle East (bald warrior guys, also used by African civs), Americans (ponytails, awesome wooden-swordsmen), European ("base" Civ), Greco-Roman (Hopilites), and East Asian (settlers get the sweet hats).
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

Righto - I have started the process of reporting on this game. It isn't much yet but it will grow over the week end.
My detailed, turn by turn reports will be going up on my web site on a super duper secret location. I will not be giving out the web address and no one here will either ... will they? How will you find it? Here is the address to the index page ...
ruffhi.atspace.com/pbem45v-XXX-index Edit: "you also have to add .html - thx for the info Serdoa"
BUT ... you have to replace the XXX with a piece of fruit. That is it - easy as pie - you just need to think a very little bit (it shouldn't hurt too much).
Just as a teaser, I am currently working on these pages ...
Leader and Civ Selections
Settlement Options
First N Turn sim
I will be doing 10 turn round ups in this thread. Also, feel free to ask me any questions you would like answered.

And the game has started. It turns out that my sandbox was set on a huge map so my tech costs were all wrong. That was lucky because it was driving me a little batty trying to get the techs done by when I needed them. A small map makes that much easier.
And here is the glorious capital ... and why I wanted yellow and the viking flag. And why I wanted to try and play with a specific leader. My whole game this time around is about bananas. Bananas everywhere ... as far as the eye can see. My yellow color fits, the viking flag looks like some bananas arranged in a sort of star format (you might need to tilt your head and squint a little for one one).
My capital is called 'The Big Banana'. My leader is 'Musa Ruff' - yes, I was hoping to have the Mansa Musa leader head (I will leave that to you to work out why).
Leader: Musa Ruff
Civilization: The Banana Republic
Short Desc: Banana Republic
Adjective: Bananian
I forgot to name my scout - will do that next time.
I haven't fully completed my simming but I settled for the fish, started a work boat and I have TBB working the sheep (1F, 2H, 1C).
Demos which I won't be digging into too much ...
Inside TBB ...
Now - one final comment. My previous pbem games at RB have been centered around having fun, playing slightly odd ball civs / leaders and the like. I haven't won any pbem events here ... but this game is different. I'm playing to win this one. Sure, I will have fun (what type of Ruff game will it be if it wasn't fun) but I will be trying to squeeze the most out of my civ.

So you're running a politically unstable nation that relies on exporting just one product for the majority of its economy?
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I would have said that my nation is myopically focused on The Banana and all things Banana. Oh - and has the will to see the whole world enjoying The Banana, even if they don't want to.
