Agree.

Agree.

I also think we should run 2 scientist specialist in volsung once the library is complete. well, we can alternate between 2 and 1 if we want to let it grow onto a coast tile, just make sure the great scientist pops before a second prophet in gilgamesh. Then we can make a very useful academy in gilgamesh smile.

I have a question. What happenned here:

I somehow missed a whole turn rolling, I thought we were still on 104. Anyway you must have moved NE, NE to the tile 2N of where he currently is on 104 to avoid the chariot. Where did the barb spear go? How did you know that tile (1E of where the spear was before) would be safe?

Just curious - I thought the spear would pursue and we'd have to go east around the peak to reach scooter. Now, as long as its safe to go S next turn, we'll be able to reach him in 2 turns! yay smile

Of course once we do reach him we'll have to sit him there for ages until one of us has alphabet frown. If we had alpha bet I'd probably advocate marching him through to make contact w/ commodore, then gifting him to scooter. too bad we can't do that w/o open borders frown.

turn 105: the calm before the storm

the gears of war are almost fully rolling:
in the odyssey we have 6 axes, a chariot, 4 archers, and a warrior. we have 2 more axes whipped this turn in the odyssey and the aeneid (OMG we need that gold happy), 2 more incoming from gilgamesh and maths next turn, and 1 chariot and 1 spear to the west that will come in as well. In the aeneid we also have a spear, 2 horse archers, 2 archers, and a chariot.

Azza moved an additional axe (unpromoted) into A7X this turn and has 2 unpromoted praets, a shock axe and unpromoted axe, a C1 spear, C1 chariot and unpromoted chariot in the city, as well as an unpromoted spear on the hill.

of note: I think he might be suspicious. he had workers mining that hill and farming 1E of the city. he may have decided he doesnt want to improve those tiles if he can't hold the city. or, since the borders popped, he may have just pulled all of them away to work the rice farm. hoping he completes some improvement before we invade smile.

Regardless, even with the extra 20% defense bonus, I think we'll win handily. we'll see.

gilgamesh:

worker moves onto the forest tile next turn, chop comes in in 4.
note that we can switch from the rice to either grassland mine or hte plains cottage to stop growth and prevent growing into happy. Lewwyn is being optimistic, that we'll be able to grow to size 9 with the gold mine soon wink.

math is shaping up into a very nice hammer city:

we're working on mining the two plains hills west of the city, and the plains hill in the NE neear gilgamesh. at size 8 this city can work the pigs, 2 farms, 2 grassland mines and 3 plains hill mines for 20 HPT - rawr!
we'll also be able to save the last 3 forests for some wonder down the road (don't know which yet).

Popol Vuh:
net drain right now, but we're working to improve that. there is one turn into the walls, in case we need to emergency whip. but I don't think that will be an issue. the plan is - reach size 2, whip granary, then reach size 2, whip walls.

question - when we expand borders shortly, we'll pick up the peak. will we be able to see inside chicken pizza? (you can see its second ring borders in this shot, its 4 tiles south of the rice). hopefully the war with azza goes well and is quick so we can get a worker over here.

artemis is on a mission to reach xenu:

ok, here's the difficulty though:

so we shouldnt have any trouble getting past serdoa's city, but Brick has definitely blocked the main way to xenu's empire in the south, and I doubt either of us will research alphabet anytime soon :/.

So, first I imagine we'll try to take the ishtmus south to the mountain peak, and hope he has a naval vessel in the area. failing that we can go to brick's border - they may be at war and we may see one of xenu's assaulting units. if neither work we'll just have to hang out on the southern coast there and hope xenu finds us, or brick gets alphabet.

maintenence costs are really hurting us - are they factored into GNP? It seems like they are. we are only 74 GNP (#3) at 100%. but we'll have 3 libraries by the time we turn that on.
also #1 in soliders, that isn't shocking, heh.

with his new libraries, and our high maintenence, azza has pulled ahead of us in GNP:

But that has come at the expense of his military:

hmm. just realized we'll actually have 10 axes in the battle now, not 9. not sure how that happenned - I guess Lewwyn wasn't planning on whipping hte odyssey originally and changed his mind.

4 unpromoted, 4 C1, 1 shock, 1 city raider II smile. or maybe a couple of those C1's will be CR1, not sure yet.

btw, lewwyn is wrong - our borders are actually 46% dutch, 54% Roman, so we should lose all 3 border tiles next turn frown.

Hmmm We may have to wait a turn if that's true. I could log in now and see if we've lost the borders already, but I'd rather let Azza play first.

why? you can still gather all the units in the odyssey & the aeneid this turn, and attack next turn (107), why delay a turn if it won't bring us any extra units?

now that azza regained his first ring he's getting a little cocky:

the 2 workers that completed the mine are not covered by the spear anymore, either. tempting to sacrifice a chariot to nab them, but i think I'd rather give him another turn 2 move those 2 axes away from beowulf, then attack on 107 as planned.

at the very least the axes will rejoin the city without their fortification bonus, which is excellent smile.

tempted to login to take a look, but that might give away some info.

if you take the wokers on the same turn as the attack, it will mean that he has to waste a unit to get them back- a unit that likely dies anyway on the next turn - so i'd go for it.

well, its turn 106. if we attack this turn it would be with 8 axes instead of 10, I don't think its worth it (we'd just delete the workers probably).

turn 107, when we're planning to attack, I doubt those workers will be there anymore. the mine is finished already.

lewwyn, I think you should probably promote the C1 axe that has a promotion to shock before you move in - so that his shock axe will have 50/50 odds - otherwise he'll be favored.
